I’d be ok if they added 20 tiers, so long as they solve the problems many people complained about with the introduction of Ascended gear.

Problem 1: The problem that it is only acquired by grinding PvE and the trade post in order to get the materials and gold required to craft one set of ascended gear.

Possible solution: Make ascended gear available by regularly playing the game and without being tied to the game’s economy so much (in other words, ditch the suggestive association to the gem-to-gold conversion). Basic examples: Ascended gear purchasable by Karma or Badges of Honor.

Problem 2: The bane of alts and people who enjoy having the option to change spec. Obtaining one ascended set is bad enough for many people who just want to play the game their way. Ascended gear is too expensive, and too exclusive, yet still meaningful enough that it is almost required in competitive WvW and higher tier dungeon runs (and likely raids when they arrive).

Possible solution: Ascended gear cost and time requirements should be brought down dramatically so that it is realistic for more people to even consider levelling an alt or change spec. It wouldn’t take someone two months to acquire a set, only to be forced to respect for specific content or worse - a balance update. And if making it cheaper is not an option, then make it possible to change the stats on Ascended gear like with Legendary weapons, either for free or for a small cost.

If those issues are solved, then someone like me who plays this game slightly more casual and primarily in WvW, would be able to obtain a full set of Ascended gear and stay competitive, on one or even more characters and specs. Being able to play the game the way you enjoy it while still progressing on the gear treadmill should be the goal here, as players should never feel forced to do things they don’t enjoy, like Ascended gear currently does.

Same stats as Ascended but with the ability to change stats when out of combat, just how Legendary weapons work.

And then maybe Legendary Runes/Sigil that allow you to change their stats just like Legendary weapons. Because changing the stats on Legendary Weapons is a great feature but it could’ve been way more useful if there were Legendary Sigils available too so you can change your build effortlessly (out of combat of course).

Then they can add Legendary trinkets too.

Then we can talk about a new tier….. in 2020 maybe

Seriously though… GEAR TIERS MAKE NO DIFFERENCE.

This is what it comes down to:
- tier 1 has numbers
- shiny new monsters are introduced that have higher numbers than you!
- you grind tier 2 with bigger numbers, you feel like a boss
- shiny new monsters with even more numbers are introduced!
- you grind tier 3 gear with… more numbers, you can now kill the shiny new monsters but you get bored after a day.

Repeat this sequence and add more numbers. Before you know we all have 15k power and deal the same damage as before, because guess what… the mobs have gained more numbers too.

You only THINK you are making progress to “getting stronger”, but in fact a math-loving economist is eating your brains.

Personally I like the idea of legendary armor a lot, and think it should be a serious goal that would make luminescent look like finishing your personal story (I.e. something most of us have done). However I don’t know that it would be worth the effort if the runes weren’t changeable. I was thinking of a way to do that without hurting the sigil/rune market and I would think an unlock system kind of like the ranger pets.

If you have kudzu (I would think sigils and runes could be changed at the same time) and you ‘consume’ a sigil of force (probably consume by equipping but preferably with an option of putting in like a collection tab so you could switch to it later if you wanted too). Now it’s unlocked on kudzu, but you would need another sigil for the dreamer. It would work the same way for runes, if you have 6 legendary armor pieces you need 6 runes.

You’re missing part of the point. When it comes to the gear treadmill, people don’t grind to get better gear for the sake of having better gear. They grind to get better gear so that they can complete new content that REQUIRES better gear in order to complete in an efficient timeframe. Nothing more, nothing less. If I hit 1,000 on the Tier 1 monster (who has 10,000 health), and I hit 5,000 on the Tier 3 monster (who has 50,000 health), I don’t really care. If I don’t have Tier 3 gear, I can’t ever fight the Tier 3 monster, and that’s why I grind.

Anet confirmed that there won’t be any gear above ascended however they have also mentioned that the level cap will possibly rise in the futre. So, don’t be surprised if you have to grind ascended once again, eventhough I doubt they will rise the level cap soon.

The only armor hinted at is legendary. Ascended was to be the gap between exotic and legendary. Legendary has same stats as exotics, just able to swap stats, which I am OK with.

last time I checked legendary weaponry had exacly same stat as ascended (highest tier of weps) – they just had their “unique” skin with some additional unique animations (footsteps and crap) and ability to swap stats outside of a fight…….

so yeah I’m ok with legendary armor as long as they are gonna look AWESOME!

They’ve already done that. There are a number of rare weapon recipes that appear in between the original tiers of weapon crafting. Before Masterwork weapons were 5 levels above the blue but rares have since been introduced that are 7-8 levels above the blue but a few levels short of the next material tier.

More tiers please. I need that carrot on a stick, or I’m just going to stop playing out of boredom. This is probably the biggest thing im looking forward to. A new goal to progress towards and make my character better. If I was happy with staying the same forever, id go play Diablo or something. Im playing an mmo for the epic loots and cool armour so I can slay monsters faster and get more epic loots. Im not playing dressup with dolls in a tree house here.

Maybe make it not such a PITA to craft for such a small gain. I think ascended should be cheaper as is, or better to reflect the serious time and effort put into making it.

While they’re at it, make sure to add more challenging content to go with the next armour tier. If they do all of this, then gosh darn it Anet, shut up and take my money!

Played WoW about 7 years ago. If it had better graphics and wasn’t like playing in a Disney theme park I WOULD “go back” to it.

I don’t get the whole “if they add new content imma stop playing y’all”. If you don’t want to grind the new gear, then don’t. Just sit back and wallow in your own crapulence at already having full ascended on all ALTs, five legendaries, thousands of gold. Just sit back and smirk knowingly that you’re better than everyone because you played from the start and won’t have to do anything further to stay at the top. I personally like change, and if I ever got to that situation I’d consider the game beat and stop playing. I think its better to have the option and choose not to do it than not have the option at all.

It would probably be a unique tier and function as Legendaries already do. I see no reason to not have Legendary armor that can change stats on a dime.

Case in point: There are no ascended Assassin’s rings, amulet and back item while Sinister is missing a back item.

I do not see a gear grind being content. It is just a grind. content means you are playing the game, not farming like a mindless well…person.

I do not mind ascended armor, I do not mind a way to get more trait points, I do mind this game changing and adding a vertical progression. It would devaluate the present form. I’m all for more armor skins, new characters, more classes, new proffecsions and all, but I would loathe a gear grind.

I would love legendary armor. I can see me working towards it. The fact is legendary armor would fill a gap, getting lvl 90 or 100 DOESN’T, it just creates gaps. I could get a legendary armor on 1 of my characters, and work towards ascenced on all14 alts.

23 lvl 80’s, 9 times map, 4ele, 4ncr, 3war, 3grd, 3rgr, 2thf, 2msm, 1eng, 1 rev.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

I still feel it’d be long-term positive to the game if Ascended had the same armor stats as Exotic, just offering those slots for FotM-use.
But if we do keep it around, please don’t add more to it.

Only being able to get 2 on a character, but needing 6 for for a full set would be an issue. I’m sure there are easy ways around this though.
Also, instead of traditional precursors, maybe it should just require a piece of the appropriate Ascended level gear, maybe even with Celestial stats.

It sure seems like a new armor tier is coming.

Asended armor was difficult to get when it came out, but nowadays ascended materials and obsidian shards are handed out as boooby prizes when RNG doesn’t favor you. SW drops tons of rares, which leads to lower prices on Ectos and many other things.

When games introduce a new tier, the old tier becomes easier to get. Well the old tier is a lot easier to get today than it was in the past.

personally : if they want to make the gear hard to get without adding precursors I’d say you need a gift of ascended chest piece, in order to get that gift you throw 4 (random or otherwise) ascended chest pieces (probably from the same weight class). Then use that as a precursor, although I hadn’t thought about the gift of exploration, that’s a good point.

Maybe legendary armour… Actually the thing that would kill it for me is not another tier of armour but if they raised the level cap! That would render all level 80 armour useless. And by God I’ve spent too much time grinding just to make the view ascended pieces I have!

Legendary Armor – Ascended stats that are select-able (per Legendary weapons).

The only “debacle” with Ascended items was the horrific unfairness of material requirements for light armor (that STILL exists). Beyond that, Ascended equipment is exactly where it needs to be (IMO).

I don’t see them adding any additional armor tier but I do see them adding new Legendary weapons. That may effectively make a new “tier” but only in terms of visuals and how they are created (recipe based Precursors)

Increasing the level cap will hopefully include some sort of system to upgrade existing equipment (at least Ascended stuff). Actually, increasing the level cap does not mean higher level equipment HAS to be introduced (just add another 4 or 6 trait points).
