Please stop making us press CTRL constantly
Toggle on CTRL, like many other said before me. It would be great.
Agreed. The show items function should act as a toggle similar to the run function. It should be turned on and turned off with a key press – not holding a key down.
Throwing in my support for a toggle. Hand health is important to us.

+10 for a toggle option please. Thumb still acting a bit weird after an extended visit to SilverWaste this weekend.
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
Definitely need stuff like this.
In the mean time, I suggest swapping the cntrl and alt functions (simply remap each to what the other is by default)
I find holding Alt with my thumb to be less strenuous than cntrl with pinkie.
I did this a while back and have had much less cramping in my hand, though it is a workaround, not a solution.
For mass clicking I suggest this post here by SonOfJacob for safe advice.

There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon
Please please do something about it, my hand starts hurting from always pressing Ctrl while running with WASD..
Just an options like you can do it with enemies and character names.
My pinky finger is permanently mangled from holding down control with almost everything I do in Guild Wars, over the years! This is right up there with a resizeable and centering mouse cursor.
I actually swapped my Ctrl and Alt button functionalities because constantly pressing/holding Ctrl was hurting my pinky.
I did the same when my pinky almost died during long farming sessions. The Alt-button left of the Spacebar is just perfect!
Though sometimes I do turn on “Show All Enemy Names” in Options, but only when I’m in WvW.

RSI is a real thing, so I feel this needs more consideration.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
I’ve seen this requested repeatedly over the past few years. I assume some A-Net guy reads the posts, mutters “working as intended” under his breath and goes back to playing Minecraft.
I finally bound caps lock. I have to toggle it all the time when I go into a new zone or such but it beats having to hold down a key all the time.
I cannot recommend mouse thumb buttons enough for this “problem” It is much easier to use than a keyboard key.

GW1 discord way anyone?
toggle or option in settings is a must.
Anet implent is now please…
Are we saying that remapping it to CAPS lock will make it toggle or have I misunderstood?
Are we saying that remapping it to CAPS lock will make it toggle or have I misunderstood?
Well, sort of. It turns off all the time (change a zone or whatever). When it does you just turn caps lock on and off. If you do that and want it off just turn caps lock on.
Of course that means a lot of shouting in map chat.
Well, now that they’re getting better about ‘hiding’ their nameplates, there shouldn’t be any opposition to introducing a toggle button. :P

I feel like I’m missing something. Why would you need to see their names?
I have some problems with the ligaments in my left hand. This makes playing in areas that require me to find objects on the ground (chests and such) physically painful after 10 minutes or so of stretching my pinky down to control as I WASD around. I would absolutely love an option to always show objects or let cntrl toggle object names on or off. It’s not just a matter of convenience to me. It’s a matter of being in physical pain when I play this game. I’ve tried in the past several times to push for this QOL change and have always been ignored.
I’m sure they have their reasons for not implementing this but in my opinion this is a perfect example of a developer being stubborn for no other reason than just because.
Whatever design goal they are married to here is nullified by the fact that players will hold down the control key, even if it physically hurts us. Since we will keep the nameplates up, one way or another, good developers will recognize when bad decisions are hurting the game and make appropriate changes.
I don’t have any sort of RSI or other disability problem with this & wouldn’t use it. Nevertheless, I fully support the idea. When I ran a Raid Alliance (in LotRO), I know for a fact that we had people with colour blindness, near-total deafness, and cerebral palsy with us. Probably there were others who didn’t want to tell us, or who just didn’t feel any need to. You make allowances for the fact that they’re going to struggle with certain aspects of the game, but you still make them welcome -THEY’RE GAMERS TOO!!
It says a lot about Anet’s “priorities” that something as simple as this to introduce has been left rotting on the board for nearly a year…
Oh, I know plenty about disabled gamers. I play with quite a few. My spouse is Deaf but I have yet to convince them to give GW2 a try.
Give mapping ‘show enemy names’ to caps lock a try. It is not perfect but is close to what you want with the current setup. On-and-off to turn it on or if you want it off just leave it engaged. True, it will turn off at the slightest provocation (as I expect any solution we got would) so I am just used to hitting caps lock a couple times now and then.
The key for running is the caps lock key but I use that less often anyway so just use the up-arrow key. I am not sure why that is? It is not like caps lock goes any faster and I find constantly moving forward instead of stopping when I want to be a major annoyance anyway.
The only downside is if you REALLY do not want to se nameplates while chatting. How often does that happen? I have yet to encounter a situation where seeing nameplates was a bad thing.
I found a little workaround, if you happen to use steam to launch GW2. I bound ‘show names’ to Shift, then whenever I pressed ‘Shift-Tab’ to bring up the steam in-game overlay and exited it (with Esc), the names stay on my screen.
I have no idea why it works.

Nah they read it, don’t understand the request and remove showing quest items from ctrl.
