Good Lord is this serious? Just turn off your map chat. People are obviously allowed to discuss this in-game if they choose to.

Just switch to Combat tab. There’s always going to be spoilers on the internet, whether if it’s from books or movies, or games.

It is called common courtesy to not spoil things.

And there is a very easy solution to your problem. Turn off map chat. Some people want to help other people, and it’s not always an individual but a group. Map Chat is easier, and that’s definitely what it’s for. It’s up to you to censor what you don’t want to see for yourself. It’s not up to you to censor what everyone sees and can say simply because you don’t like it.

So people should also be prevented from asking help locating that one Karka they are missing?
I think people do this to help, not to spoil someone’s fun ;-)

Actually, some of them yeah. Some of those Karka descriptions are so innocuous it’s impossible to know which one it’s for. It’s just frustrating when someone asks for it over and over.

Can’t people just change their chat channels? or if needed hide UI.

Actually, some of them yeah. Some of those Karka descriptions are so innocuous it’s impossible to know which one it’s for. It’s just frustrating when someone asks for it over and over.

I think that those people that ask over and over again in a frustrating manner are likely to misuse mapchat regardless of what content gets released ;-)

Personally I enjoy seeing people asking and giving help, it definitely beats the alternatives (dead mapchat, people complaining/arguing, trolling, etc)

If we follow that same logic, and begin banning people for giving tips/hints on content, then they should ban people for asking for help with vistas/JPs. Such things are commonly explained through map chat. But lets not stop there. Lets also ban people for suggestion build ideas in chat, or for discussing tactics on events/bosses. Lets issue bans for organized maps of teq, where the event is commonly described, and what to do, before hand. These can be considered spoilers.

Yeah, not so much. These people aren’t breaking any of the ToS, aren’t doing anything illegal. In fact, such things are what make GW2 such a great community. They are the people willing to help. It encourages working together, to the benefit of all.
However, as said before, if you want to do it the “hardcore” way. Turn off chat, or open combat log so you won’t have to see it. But don’t punish people working together and being helpful.

Actually, yes you should. If you want to play your way then you have to allow others to play their way. If that means having a conversation in a channel specifically designed for such conversations then you have to respect that. If those conversations interfere with you then you need to be willing to close that off.

I personally also like to explore, and wouldn’t you know, I was able to do it with Map Chat on, and it still didn’t interfere nor ruin anything for me. I just didn’t read the conversations while I was on the hunt. This is 100% your problem, and no one else’s.

the fun is searching and finding all karkas by yourself
but if you show people (who didnt specifically ask for help) the locations of the karkas then you steal them the whole fun!!!

No, the fun is getting the reward. The journey is a means to the end. If you don’t want help then turn off chat and avoid social games. You want to do everything by yourself then there are tons of single player games you can enjoy.

I don’t see anything wrong with helping people out in map chat as there is always others that want help but are too kitteno ask. Your best bet if you don’t want spoilers is to turn off the chat filters for map chat.

If you don’t want to be spoiled.. turn your chat to combat chat instead..

OP, you have an easy way to bypass your problem.You turning off your chat is the easiest solution to the problem. It doesn’t require A-net to make a new rule or enforce it. It doesn’t dilute the helpful attitude that people have.

A-net have absolutely no reason to take into your suggestion of changing the rules- it would harm the community more than benefit it. It seems to me like you’re overreacting a bit to a simple problem with a simple solution.
