As you all know after April 15th, you will not be able to see a contested waypoint on a different map than the one you are currently in. So in order to see it, you will have to travel to that map, which will show you then, which waypoints are contested/uncontested.

It’s a very inconvenience method to have to travel to another map just to see that. We definitely lost a quality of life here. And add to that, we will not see which dungeons are contested or not, unless once again, we travel to that map to see for ourselves.

So what can be done about this? I think if we put our minds to it, we can come up with some neat ideas, but mind you, you have to take in consideration the new mega server system, and not just say, get rid of it, and go back to the way it was.

So I’ll go first and give a few ways that may help this out.

Waypoints are usually contested because there is a group event near that area, so with this in mind…

Have All waypoints be uncontested at all times, but whenever a player joins a group event, if they are participating long enough, the nearest waypoint will become contested for that player, and they will have to spawn to the next nearest waypoint they can find if they die.

So by having participated long enough and only then will the closest waypoint become contested, prevents other waypoints nearby that can also be contested due to other group events when you travel to them.

Taking in consideration the dungeon and fractal ways of spawning back to life…

Have All waypoints be uncontested at all times, but whenever you die, there will be a timer to how long you will be able to waypoint again. Re-spawn times will vary and depend on the type of event you are involved in. So e.g., group events will have a longer timer, regular events will have short timer, and dying because you just fell off a cliff because you got distracted by your dog, will not cost you much waiting time.

If you think about it, when you die in a dungeon/fractal, and your party is still in combat, you are laying there for a good while until either you get rezzed or your party gets out of combat, you’re basically on a timer there. And there are a lot of games that do that, so I don’t think it will be a huge problem if we had to wait a little. Also, as it is right now, the time it gets you to waypoint and make your way back to the event, will take you just about the same time with timers, and it’s just more convenient this way.

So I don’t know if even this can be possible with the new mega-system, but I definitely would like to bring back some quality of life to this area again.

So any thoughts? Ideas? Discuss.

And then they turn around and offer that same info via API so it’s just a kick in the teeth to all the players without a second monitor.

No.
This change ONLY affects waypoints which can be contested, such as settlements in Southsun, or the beach teq spawns at in Sparkfly Fen. Keep in mind this is also likely intended to fix issues caused by overflow maps, which show contested waypoints as being open. Let me tell you something, waypointing into shank anchorage, before it’s actually taken, into a massive blob of risen is not a fun experience.

Overwolf has an ingame overlay that you can install “widgets” or whatever onto. Quite a few of them happen to be GW2 event timers. The one I have I like faaaaaaaaaaaar more than gw2stuff.com as it explicitly tells you what steps remain and the events inside those steps.

This post is factually incorrect. No where does it state that this change is happening April 15th. The blog states that this is a feature that MAY be implemented by DECEMBER 2014.

I wish people would stop whining about this. This game already 10,000x easier to travel in than any other game because you can just instantly port anywhere in the world, at any time of day, without any help from allies or any item.

I’d much rather have mounts or some similar system that actually requires me to move across a map that i’m playing on and see what it looks like rather than port in – kill a boss or harvest a node – port out, rinse and repeat.

Is all these complaints really worth the 1 iron ore worth of silver that you lose?
