Post-80, why not convert exp to something else?
Excuse me, but those skill points are really really vital for much of the game

I believe that current idea that Anet has is for people to save up the skill points to use on making legendary weapons.
Although the legendaries don’t really interest me too much so I can see where you are coming from.
Leveling up gives you skill points, which can be used as a currency. I think Elonian Wine or something? The vendor is by the Mystic Forge.
You still get skill points, which are used in Unique Mystic Forge Exotics, Legendaries, better siege for WvW, and many other ways you can get gold from converting them.
Oh! I didn’t realise it was giving me skill points.
Here’s a bunch of mystic forge stuff you can make in part with skill points:

Some of the recipes use items that you get from Mayani, which requires skill points.
You need a boat load of skill points if you want to make a legendary, but other than that there isn’t really much use for it. It would be cool if they had more things to trade skill points in for, like jugs of karma or possibly another way to get black lion keys. Like 25 skill points for a jug of karma and 5-10 skill points for a black lion key.
But here is a better mystic forge recipe list.

This is completely against that they announced the game as. Karma is not meant to be tradable for profit (which unfortunately they messed up on, but its since been fixed), and skill points arent meant to either.

i don’t want a legendary, and i have all the skills. they just pile up into the hundreds and have no use for me.
how does one get gold from them?

You make a rare weapon in the MF that requires 100+ SP’s and sell it on the TP

oh… i hate crafting. i have never crafted anything in any mmo ever beyond the initial hope that it might be more fun this time around.
are the SPs all that’s required?

No, they require other mats that make the profit margin no where near worth the amount of skill points needed

awww well guess they’ll just continue to sit unused… all 200+ of them.
They should let you buy magic find for 1% per skill point and then cap it at some amount so you can get rid of magic find gear at some point. Magic find as a gear stat is annoying anyway.
Currently now not much is used for SP unless you want those unique looking weapons that can only be crafted from Mystic Forge. As GW2 expands you can expect more use for SP and increase in Utility and Elite Skills.
Can anyone say “60 SP Elite Skills”?
You can create a new elite skill, not yet, but here’s how it could work:
