Post-Endgame Content
I don’t play the game anymore, it’s a simple as that really! Nothing more to say apart from your friend is absolutely right, and more!
No one plays Halo’s campaign anymore, that’s fine. The endgame to B2P games is PvP!!!! We knew this from the beginning, don’t buy into GW2’s marketing team that this is a PvE game, its a PvE game if your a casual player.
We pay them no sub fee so they have no incentive to make PvE have any sort of longevity in b/w expansions. How would it make sense for them to update their game like a P2P mmo with a B2P price tag?

I don’t understand your comment, sorry! So you’re saying this is a PVP game?
PVP was going to be what I was going to do as “end game content” if you will. However what PVP?
Spvp is unbalanced, there’s only four maps and one game mode, and no incentive to play it at all really. It’s fun for about 5 minutes, after that, there’s just no reason why you’d play it.
WvW, sure, the concept is great! However, queue times for it are quite frankly pathetic, leading to hours upon hours of waiting time, ofcourse if you get in at all! It’s just not worth the wait when you can pick up other games and play immediately and just generally have fun. With this one it’s more like log in, shout out in map chat to attempt getting a group for something, or sit there like a lemon trying/waiting to play WvW.
Whether the PvP is good or not is subjective, but the game is structured to facilitate a PvP endgame. That, or the game simply has no endgame, and not in a good sense.
I wrote this almost everywhere, I’m writing here too.
For semi-hardcore (nowadays common player profile) players;
-Reaching level 80 takes a week;
-100% world completion takes a week;
-Getting yourself a full exotic gear set takes two weeks at the slowest speed;
-Getting full set of any dungeon sets takes around four days;
-Leveling a crafting profession to 400 takes two to five days, depending on your skill and experience;
So, in two weeks, you’re ‘completely’ done with your first character, and probably, Guild Wars 2.
Question: Wait wait wait. You said completely but there is legendary crafting, WvWvW, sPvP.
My answer: No. Those are not endgame events, but just are claimed to be endgame events. Below is how come they are not endgame events;
1. WvWvW;
“Nobody” -literally- cares about winning buffs for their home server since nobody needs those buff. They are not needed at all. If they were, you’d feel that your buffs are missing and you’re struggling in PvE. But personally, I don’t even notice that I have WvWvW buffs on or not.
-But badges! You can farm badges!
For what? I can buy invader armor set with badges or I can use them when I’ll craft a legendary. Hmmm…What if I don’t like invader set and am not interested in legendary weapons? Answer: I have no reason to participate in WvWvW.
-But hey! Monthly achievements require WvWvW participation!
Who says I care about monthly achievements? And how can I actually give a care about monthlies while they give me almost no prize at all?
2. sPvP;
Nice feature but it keeps you entertained only for an hour, maybe two. Since you’re getting no progression …
-No progression?! You get glory points!!
Dude, nobody cares about glory points because nobody cares about looks in sPvP. In PvE, yeah, people care about looks but in sPvP, people care about their sPvP levels and scores …
-Hah! you said people care about sPvP levels! That means they care about glory points!
Yeah, they care about it for an hour.
3. Legendary Weapons;
Believe me. There are a few people who want to get legendary since they already have an exotic item that looks cool enough. I think only a few fanboys will craft legendaries. It takes big time to craft one and all you get is just a skin. What if I already have my favorite skin?
So, what does this game need?
Player and guild rankings in WvWvW.
New gear sets purchased with ranking points -not badges-
Dungeons giving karma
Karma as reward for each invader killed, territory captured in WvWvW
More places that you can spend karma on
.
.
I’ll add one or two things that the game needs later, I gotta go now
(edited by Valkyrie.2678)
The first Guild Wars did not have an end game either. It was very much structured like this.
Elite PvE areas where people go to get items/materials to craft elite gear.
Many PvP game types where people can make a PvP character without doing any PvE.
Heck, all my cousin has done is sPvP. Literally that is it. All he does are tournaments.
I played Guild Wars for 6 years. On and off. The game is meant to be enjoyed very differently than a WoW style MMO.
Well judging by the vast array of forums posts from people sharing my same opinion, and myself and other friends who I played this game with who have also stopped playing now, seems to suggest that there’s not much longetivity in this game.
If it is supposed to be a PVP game, it feels as though they didn’t devote anywhere near enough time to make it playable and/or enjoyable.
They seemed to POUR all their dev dollars into PvE while barely putting any in PvP, which doesn’t surprise me too much, a lot of mmo dev’s don’t really focus on their endgame features too much at launch, and make sure everything else is shiny.
I’d agree, but he only touched the surface.
I’d also go and play some PvP but I happened to roll a Warrior and got to level 80. I should have picked a Thief. Maybe I would have got bored of spamming heartseeker to win. It’s all so confusing.
I’m logged in right now but often I find that tabbing out and reading websites is more interesting than tabbing back in game and realizing that there’s nothing to do except meaningless grind or roll more characters.
Should I really just uninstall? I don’t see the point in buying expansion packs if it’s just going to be more of the same. Quite depressing really.

I second the fact that it was obvious from the start that the endgame for GW2 was PvP. Anyone who thought otherwise is delusional. I like WvWvW, I play on Blackgate, max wait at prime time is 10 minutes. Sorry you rolled on Henge but you can transfer to actually…play. For people wanting a gear grind/gearcheck game Pandamania came out yesterday, take care.
Asura Warrior
BlackGate
im 60 hours in.
i play about 15h-20h a week. and that is A LOT.
i am level 38.
only dabbled quickly in spvp and wvwvw (maybe 2-3hours each).
and to me, the game is VERY good.
its epic, its lasting, the world is beautiful.
i dont really understand all the complainers.
everygame will be a content loop at the end….
except maybe EVE.
to me “content loop grinding” is absurd.
but or whatever reason, some players want it…
Valkyrie, wow! Just wow! I feel like not even bothering to post on these forums anymore, due to the fact that you put everything so clearly and into great detail. Again I agree with you 100%! Nothing wrong with some facts along with some justified constructive criticism – despite many others who will most likely completely disagree with them and suggest everything is all good and dandy the way things are.
Because it is very subjective. I am a lvl 45 ranger and I feel like things are amazing in the game. Yet there are others who think everything is so terribly wrong.
All I know is, this game works for me. All the other mmo’s I have played I ended up quitting. Why? Because of time commitment. I am a PvP guy. I never liked the fact that I have to be put in a gear grind in order to be competitive with other players.
I would play the game, have fun doing PvP working towards better gear. Then I would stop playing because that is just not fun. I don’t have the time to grind for gear in order to even play with the big boys.
With Guild Wars 2, I can take my lvl 2 character into sPvP and there is absolutely no difference between me and that other guy. If I win, it is because I am better than him. Not because he was able to spend x amount of time in game and have better stats than me.
I think your friend plays WoW.. right?
Lets answer:
“1. “So… there really is no end game in GW2, and that’s a bad thing. I don’t want to do the same Zerg fest events over and over and over until I get enough karma for gear that doesn’t really matter because I don’t need gear for anything after I beat the game.””
WorldEvents in Orr are large and difficult to complete. How is the endgame in other MMO? Doing the exact Dailys PvE/PvP over and over again? Yeah! a lot of fun. Here you can go to complete events everywhere.
Doing Raids over and over again to get better gear for what? For doing the SAME raid more easy the next time? AMAZING!
2. “The instances are fun but the story-mode versions are generally harder but you don’t get any reward for doing them, whereas explorable modes give you tokens that you can put towards gear; but again what do I need that gear for?”
I dont know what game your friend is playing, but history mode is the Easy mode. Explorable paths are hard as hell.
What do you need that gear for? Looking amazing, is better that get better gear only for make easy the next time.
3. “Most MMOs have a gear check phase at the level cap where you have to make sure your gear is up to snuff to do the next set of content. GW2 stops dead at level 80. There is absolutely nothing to gear up for because the game doesn’t have anything like raids.”
Dungeons, gear lvl 80 is much better than gear lvl 30. You know?
have you ever tried it?
4. “Events on Orr are a Zerg fest. Trust me. When you get to the end zones all there is are events, no hearts. And you just end up in this group of 40 people just AOE spamming everything in hopes that they do enough damage to get a gold participation. Not fun.”
Is a lot more fun that completing the exact 25 daily over and over again and nothing more.
And again, you are not attached to orr… you can do it everywhere….
5. “And then there are the boss type enemies who just one-shot everyone and your only option for success is to have enough people there to revive people so you last long enough to kill it.”

to be level 80 already is quite intense.
but really. there are a LOT of intense people i guess.
i think someone above said you need 1 week to be level 80 ?
and im like: wtf
i just dont know how a single game can manage to replace their youth.
maybe blizzard can do it.
@anonymus
because you complain about GW2 endgame always and always.
maybe you should try something else.
and blizzard have been known to handle addicts and powergamers quite well.
i know somebody who ditched 1000h already on DIABLO 3.
probably 700h in the 3rd act (1-2h run in average)…
to each his own.
to me GW2 is just the superior game all the way.
and its one month in, and pvp is working fine, even if not deep yet.
seriously…
People who like to equate the drive to play mmo’s to “progression”/ “obtaining stuffs” as opposed to “having casual fun” are likely to be disappointed. Nothing wrong with that imo. But I fail to see how threads like this do anything to fix the issue and only serve to exacerbate an already tenuous connection between the two player types.

It’s not all like that at the moment though, there’s only four maps with one game mode at the moment, and unless you like playing the same thing over and over and over and over again with no variation what so ever, then fair play to you!
Also depends what character you are in PVP at the moment, it’s just not balanced. I for one when playing a Elementalist in the past have a much harder time to do anything, yet playing a Thief, not only do I do more damage than the Elementalist, you can actually quite literally just repeatedly press the number 2 button to do the heartseeker move and do just as well! No need to tell me to learn to play, i’ve tried every character, and for the time and effort along with the amount of damage you can achieve with them, there are others which are just better than others. Hence why the majority of people I saw were Warriors or Thieves.
Bro LoL has basically 1 map and has limitless replay value. The problem is that 8v8’s SUCK and are major zerg fests. You get the most points if you just stick with the zerg… why can’t we play 5v5 outside of tournies??
GW2 rewards you if you stick in parties.

Not to start a personal attack but the other guy has been saying this same kitten for nearly 8 months know, which begs the question why he bother to buy the game knowing full well that its post-endgame content wasn’t like WoW?
guild wars 2 just like guild wars 1 isn’t going to appeal to the hardcore raider. I am glad that Arenanet isn’t making the silly mistake of trying to beat the Current King at its own game.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
The game is only 1 month out to the world. Give it some time.
@anonymus, it is fun right now, and itll be more so in the future.
i like to read your complaints and i have 1 question for you; what game are you having the most fun with at the moment ?
-Reaching level 80 takes a week;
-100% world completion takes a week;
Lmao… You know, most people actually have lives right? If you reached 80 in a week, let alone 100% world completion, you need to take a long, hard look in the mirror and ask yourself what your life’s purpose even is.
Then perhaps it’s just not for you?
Level 80 in one week? Really?
How about getting a life?

You are actually completely wrong. I can speak from experience. If I am facing an enemy team who just zerg points. We always win. Splitting up and capping AND DEFENDING points is how you win.
It’s just good, simple fun, casually play, come and go type of game.
So is Guild Wars 2.
One week for lvl 80?
Please go experience some sunshine.

I kill every thief I see as a ranger. Elementalist is probably the most complex class to play imo. You are basically switching between 4 weapons. The Elementalist’s strength comes from swapping attunements. If you are playing it just in Fire magic and are expecting to nuke down everyone you see, it isn’t fair to say it is unbalanced.
If you play like that, you aren’t playing the class wrong. You just are not playing it to its full potential.
It’s just good, simple fun, casually play, come and go type of game.
So is Guild Wars 2.
No it’s not, it’s a log in, wonder what to do, queue up for WvW for hours on end kind of game.
In your opinion, sure. Which you have made abundantly clear. So I’m curious as to why you’re still here? I mean, isn’t the definition of madness, to keep trying the same thing over and over but expecting different results? Surely if the game is this maddening to you, you have other options.

what do you want the forums to tell you??
it is a wonderful game.
im quite sure im in for 300h minimum of gametime.
How has noone commented on the topic title… “Post-Endgame”…. what does that even mean…
It’s endgame… post endgame?… so like after endgame?… Smells like a troll trying to sound extra smrt.
Not really, just agreeing with other peoples opinions. Nothing wrong with hovering over these forums to put my input into peoples threads. Perhaps I should same the same about you Tradewind for responding in threads saying how wonderful and magical this game is?
Far be it for me to try and explain the concept you’re clearly missing. Maybe erudite something you may have missed out on. So you could start having fun.
If you have a quote of me saying how “wonderful and magical” it is, please feel free to share it. Game has it’s fair share of problems, I however realize that it’s a process, but like everything your mileage may vary.
Basically what you said is Elementalist is too hard to play. Elementalists do not do crap damage. They are just hard to play. It doesn’t mean they are weak or bad. They are very complex.
there will always be “problem”. but i would still highly recommend it, for at least a full run of pve (125-150h?).
pve, spvp and wvwvwv all need a bit of love.
everything is a bit messy now, and i’ll blame the menus interface and statistics and the wvwvwv queue time and difficulty to play with friends in spvp as my main issues.
everything else i am amazed by.
and if they add more on top? it is a contender for my best epic fantasy rpg game ever.
Im gonna go out on a limb here and say maybe gw2 isnt for hardcore gamers. Hardcore gamers i would expect would not really be annoyed at the raids structure of wow, who plow through content just to reach max lvl and gear asap. As it sounds, dungeon gear already seems quite easy to attain. First time i heard dungeons i thought we’d be getting aound 5-10 tokens per run.
Its actually kinda funny, we have a group of people who complain that “there’s no endgame” while another group complains about the difficulty of the grind.
Basically what you said is Elementalist is too hard to play. Elementalists do not do crap damage. They are just hard to play. It doesn’t mean they are weak or bad. They are very complex.
I agree that you can drastically improve an elementalist output by merely learning to combo your own fields and doing them intentionally (not just whenever CDs are rdy). Spot on.
every class har their plus and minus.
its really “fairly well” balanced.
not perfect, i admit.
but for 1 month? i dont see any class that always sit at the bottom of the boards.
and i see a lot of people using different weapons/builds.
character building is actually quite deep.
having 2 weapon sets + underwater with all skills and traits maximized for synergy + runes and sigils…
and jewels…
you can pull off an amazing build; and SKILLS actually matter a LOT.
wait a few weeks at most for near perfect balancing.
dude, want to talk about the D3 balance and pvp?
(lets not talk about it…)
give GW2 a chance to achiece its epic destiny.

THANK YOU sir. I am tired of people saying a class is weak because they aren’t two dimensional when taking said class to a competitive scene.
That being said I enjoy my Mesmer a lot more than my 80 Ele. :P
i think most people only scratched the surface of the builds/class potential, and they think they did it all because they can pawn people who dont even weapon swap in pvp.
wait a bit… nobody nailed a “perfect build” yet on the internet!
that says a lot.
I think we can all agree on one thing and say that this game needs improvements and will hopefully be expanded on (For Free!) to include more variety in PVP, which I personally feel should have been there to begin with. And ofcourse try to sort out the long queue times in WvW one way or another. The way it is i’d have liked to have played the game longer, but without being able to play one of the main aspects left in the game, I found myself with nothing more to do.
You will have to keep waiting for WvW then. Otherwise do as the devs suggested and switch servers. If you can move all your friends, just move. On IoJ my WvW times during prime time are around 5-15 minutes.
Also, of course more PvP maps will be released for free. GW1 had a good amount of game types. You just can’t expect for every feature to be in at launch. This game is beyond massive. I can’t image what it is like to be at a game studio with hundreds of people.

I used to get disenfranchised with the whole 2-3 hour queues on Henge, but then once I started getting in there more regularly I realized why and ceased to care lol…but 5-15 mins would still be awesome.

Reaching level 80 in a week isn’t as difficult as some people are making it out to be. I reached 80 in 10 days, and that’s with working part-time and hanging out with friends.
When I was playing, I wasn’t just powerleveling either. I played quite a bit of sPVP and WvW, and because of crafting I was consistently in zones that are lower level than me because I needed materials from those zones. There are just ways to level faster, if you do things right and are lucky. Granted maybe it’s cuz I was ahead of the curve and all the DEs were constantly waiting to be finished.
On topic though, even though I’ve been 80 for over 2 weeks now, I’m still finding plenty of things to do, and I’m thoroughly enjoying the game. Frankly I don’t understand how others have so much to complain about.
Maybe it’s because I play an elementalist, not facerolling through encounters certainly does keep things exciting. I also have fun in sPvP particularly BECAUSE i’m an elementalist. It’s fun to play one, first of all, and even better when I dominate games as the supposedly underpowered profession. And I do this in both hot-join and tpvp.
Why do people always suggest to people to go and play “Pandamania”? Seems like a very immature thing to do! I’ve never played WoW personally, but can’t WoW players just stab back at you and suggest you go back to playing your silly little plant character whilst you tell them to play a Panda character? Both of them sound as silly as eachother. Having said all this, you get what you pay for, hence why people over at WoW still pay their subscription and purchase the expansion due to the game always having a nice amount of content. I can’t justify paying a subscription myself, but each to their own!
On the contratry I played WoW for almost 7 years Raid lead, guildmaster the whole 9 yards. I know exactly what it has to offer. It may be truethat I think that playing pandas is a joke and it makes the game seem like a kids game to me.
That really isn’t the point to me though. WoW has the carrot on a stick, that’s what the OP was askign for, not being mean but seriously, pandamania may be exactly what he might enjoy, so I suggest it.
Truth is I realyl don’t care what game he play or what games you play. Play what you like but don’t expect monopoly to be Risk or Risk to be Sorry etc. Play the game if you like it, play something else if you don’t. I was jsut suggesting what game he might like by what he typed in.

MMORPG is a kind that has a player base consists of mostly hardcore players. Harcore players play at least about 6 hours a day and GW2 has lots of hardcore players. 6 hours a day is enough to reach level 80, along with 100% world completion in a week.
You can ask people what the purpose of their lives is, but ANet can’t.
Blizzard is well aware that MMORPG players are mostly hardcore, or at least semi-hardcore players. I believe ANet is also aware of that now.

So you don’t enjoy playing a character for the variety, or the complexity, you only want to play the class that does the absolute best DPS available with the least amount of effort so you can complete content as fast as possible.
You are one of the main problems with the genre. You treat each quest/mission as a numbers problem that needs to be solved in the most streamline cost effective way possible, and claim that it is fun for you.
This game really isn’t the right game for you, I honestly doubt there ever will be a game for you, other than PnP perhaps.

I’ve got no interest in gear progression. I played WoW for years, and yes, even participated in the end game raiding all the way through BT back in the days of Burning Crusade. It was brilliant and fun, but none of that had anything to do with gear.
So long as GW 2 can come up with equally complex and challenging fights, I will be happy. I could care less about your “carrot”. The WHY of a game is not obtain X item to participate in Y content to obtain Z item to participate in [ ] content etc. etc. ad infinitum.
The point is to play the game, see the content (which needs to be challenging and complex, currently skeptical…) and hang out with friends. If you don’t enjoy it for those reasons you need to reevaluate why you are playing the game.
(edited by Lord Jaguar.9504)
I’m beginning to think that every MMO or any game with RPG elements has no end-game. Why? Because I see these type of threads in every forum I visit. If you rushed to lvl 80 and got the best gear possible as quickly as you could and are now bored, that’s pretty much your fault. I also rushed to 80, but I am still having a lot of fun playing because I enjoy the genre and the lore that this game has.
Hate to bring up other games but, MoP was just released and guess what, someone reached lvl 90 within 12 hours. Then after two weeks, the first raid will drop and people will rush to complete it. Once that happens and they have the best gear possible, they don’t have an endgame anymore, at least until they release new content.
So the concept of “endgame” is flawed, because everyone wants something different and there will always be those people that have to rush through content to be the first and not really enjoy it. If that’s your thing, then more power to you
