Post a pic of your character only if your armor is mix-n-match
I would like some side-by-side comparison of a full set of x armor and the mix-match version. Some of these while looking awesome, look like they are part of a set anyway(maybe you’re that good at matching).
Most players post what the parts of the armor they are using.
I use norn T3 + ascended medium + thief hood + HoM gloves, which of those should I wear as full for comparison?
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)

I like this format. My general tips for mix and match are:
- Look for pieces that evoke the same theme (otherwordly, mechanical, stylized, dressy or simplified, modern).
- Similar texture (rustic, shiny, silky or rugged, chapped), similar design or element (layers, curve, stripe, ornate).
- Streamline the silhouette. If they look busy, choose a more simple one. Less is more.
- Blend everything in the harmony with dyes.
- Bring about the subtle pop with one or two pieces of statement. Or highlight the detail with a really eye-catching dye.
- Experiment a lot, and share your result with friends
Here are some examples of my characters. All these armors are easily recognizable. If anyone needs more details on them, I’d be glad to elaborate on them later.

Hat- Inquest hood
Shoulder- Watchwork
Body- Magitech
Gloves- Rawhide
Pants- Magitech
Shoes- Asura T1
The main theme of the armor was to give my character a very inquest vibe.

Many people really are just that good at coming up with real nice combinations of armor.
Many times the armors look “better” in the mixed appearance a player posts than they do with the individual armor sets they came from.
Sites like Argos-Soft already have images of the full armor sets and most posters here are kind enough to follow the encouraged and appreciated behavior of including the names of the sets that the pieces are a part of.
If posters were to include images of the full sets for each individual item used in the mixed images then they could be unnecessarily including 6 or more additional images, one for each piece of armor used in the mixed appearance, that can already be found on armor sites like the one I mentioned.
If you see an appearance you really like, but the poster did not include the names of the sets the armors came from, quoting their post and asking what the names of the armors are is usually quickly followed by that poster (or someone else) responding with the names of the armors used.
We’re a really friendly and helpful community.
Oh cats, that’s a great resource, thanks for the link.

Forever together, or not at all.
My personal battlemage looks.
I need that relatively expensive staff skin (Bloody Prince Staff) to complete the looks though.
Gobhoblin, not only is that an awesome look, you did a glorious presentation of it. I miss my old Photoshop … as it is I won’t even be able to do the fancy new Mix + 6 Origins style people are rocking now. I should get some current shots up, though.
Its been awhile since I posted anything new on looks. But with the patch, I had the itch to mix and max again. Still not as good as my necro I think, but good none the less.
Edit: And yes, if I had 1500g, i would use the Greatsaw Skin
Still a work on progress
Head: nothing yet
Pauldrons: nothing yet
Chest: Zodiac light armor chest
Pants: Masquerade leggings
Gloves: Exalted gloves
Shoes: Conjurers shoes
Back: Fervid Censer
Hmm, Awkturtle, take a look at the CM headpiece. It has two dye channels, one for the gem and one for the tiara part, and would show nicely on your sylvari’s forehead without covering her leaves and glow.
My Guardian, but I’m not sure I’m in love with the armor setup currently.
Head: Gas Mask
Shoulders: Splint Pauldrons
Chest: Whisper’s Secret Breastplate
Gloves: Whisper’s Secret Gauntlets
Pants: Whisper’s Secret Tassets

The set is a mix of magnus eye patch, trickster top + bottom, AC boots, masquarade gloves and Teq staff. The dyes enamaled jungle (SP?), icing dye and midnight ice.
Now, one may be asking, if I wanted a black witch character, why didn’t I get necro? In response to that, I have a few reasons.
1. I already have a necro, my norn who is a sort of wraith theme.
2. I REALLY wanted a character that could use staff almost exclusively and still be useful in everything. As such, Ele was the clear choice.
3. The black mage/witch arch type has never been exclusively about necromancy.
Imgur because I tend to go overboard with action shots.
The time has come to reveal my main.
It took me several months of incantations and sacrifices but I have finally done it- I’ve became the right hand of Grenth. *evil laughter leading to asphyxiation! JK
Behold!
Ok, so here goes:
First up is my Necro, Nefeostra, who is wearing the Witchs Hat, Masquerade Mantle, Apostle Cassock, Winged Gloves, Acolyte Pants, Diviner Boots with the Sclerite Karka Shell back. Weapons are the Tormented Scepter and Dagger, and dyes are Abyss for the main body, with details in Midnight Purple.
Second is my Thief, who is sporting the Glowing Crimson Mask, Strider’s Spaulders, Auxiliary Powered Coat, Inquest Bracers, Inquest Leggings, Illustrious Striders with Rox’s Quiver back. Weapons are dual Marjory’s Dagger, and dyes are Abyss with Mithril for some detailing.
Up next, my Elementalist rocking the Feathered Headpiece, Mantle of Koda, Soul of Koda, Winged Gloves, Feathered Pants, Feathered Boots with the Fervid Censor back. Weapon is the Dragons Jade Quarterstaff, and dyes used are a mix of Latte and Celestial.
I do also have 2 more characters (a Ranger and Guardian, but my Ranger doesnt have a mixed armour set, and my Gaurdian is still trying to find the right look for him :P)

“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
Here is my Necromancer. I am not sure what each of the gear pieces are from, I know they are from 3 different sets though.
This is my all mighty set that i call: The essence of Halloween! Weapons are currently in progress.

Thank you!
I spent a fair bit of time on getting it right, so I’m delighted to hear it
Alright, here’s my Scarlet Pimpernel sylvari. When he’s being all “sink me, I got a spot of dirt on my cuff, woe,” he’s in Country Mask, Masquerade Mantle, Nightmare Court Robes, Student Gloves, Snapdragon Leggings, and Snapdragon Boots. Colors mostly Lifeblood, Redemption, Strawberry Breeze. I’d prefer no weapons show; I was using Zenith to add gold glow while leveling but don’t need double weapons just to match the outfit when he’s no fighter while in his cover identity.
When he’s masked and rescuing those in need or doing other sneaky Whispers stuff, he’s in Gas Mask, (shoulders hidden), Aetherblade Light Vest, Apostle Wraps, Ascalon Performer Pants, and Aurora Shoes. Colors are various dull shades with a touch of Abyss here and there. I haven’t finalized the vest hues yet, I want to see how I like the current layout, as I only applied it minutes ago. Weapon shown is Ebon Vanguard GS; he also uses Priory’s Historical Scepter and Seraph Focus to keep the low-key dull silver look going. I might swap to Ebonblade for the GS.
I’ll add a shot of his stealth outfit from before I decided to fully cover his head with the gas mask and build an outfit around that.
edit: Oops, got a shot without the shoulders showing for the foofy outfit, so now that’s at the bottom out of order.

Been meaning to post my sylvari mesmer’s armor for a long time now.

And a random fact: I have learned from swimming with the first set on that the sylvari glow shows up on the bottom each individual toe!

Not the best pics, but I love how my Elementalist and Warrior turned out.
For my ele her chest is Nightmare Court Robes, Legs and shoes are T2 Sylvari Cultural
For my warrior her chest and legs are Phalanx armor, boots are Human T3 Cultural, Shoulders and Gloves are Arah skins.
My norn elementalist.
I had a Raven shaman look planned for her, but I don’t have all the necessary skins yet. For the time being, I still wanted to give her a little treat for hitting level 80, so I went with a completely different theme for this armour set, working with what I have unlocked already.
I consider this her visceral combat look. The highlights are the general silhouette, the mask (especially with her shaved head and tattoo) and her mantle.
1) Mix and match set.
2) Havroun norn racial.
3) Seer armour.
4) Winged armour.
5) Ascalonian Performer armour.
6) Masquerade armour.
The mask is the mesmer’s “Fanged Dread” mask, so it’s not part of a specific armour set.
