Hello folks,

Was just wondering if it a waste of time to post suggestions on the forums or not?
I know there was a sub-forum which got removed still in year 1 I think. And I see so many threads with players giving suggestions.

I myself have a few, but I’d rather not waste time on writing up a topic if ArenaNet won’t do anything with it. Maybe ArenaNet can answer this one the best?

My own suggestions are for new elite specializations. And I’ve been occassionally thinking about future elite specializations. Thus my question.

Thanks for the replies.

Some suggestions do get through to Anet, so it is worth posting suggestions in the off chance they are implemented in some way. Aside from that, we have been told the developers do browse the forums on occasion, and stumbling across suggestions always gives ideas.

Of course, don’t expect every suggestion to be implemented.

An example of one that made it into the game is the Custom Mail Carrier.

Yes post your suggestions. From what Anet has said, the devs are always browsing the forums, although they don’t always comment. There has been many suggestions that have been implemented, but of course they also have been many that have not been.
The custom mail carrier, the wardrobe, the bank and TP in the PvP lobby, allowing the use of PvE armor in PvP, are a few examples of suggestions that have been implemented.

Don’t listen to the nay sayers that claim that Anet “never listens” and “are out of touch” with the players. That simply isn’t true. Make your suggestions and let Anet decide. Not every suggestion is a good one.

A suggestion on a forum is one ant pushing an apple. If enough ants push in the same direction it might just move.

Also a thing to keep in mind, the average time from inception to implementation in the games industry is 2 years.

Thanks for the replies guys! Might just have motivated me to re-think some things and post it.. @Aetrion ,, that might be true, but my idea won’t probably be worked on (If Anet likes it in the first place) before the next expansion.

Thank you Arenanet for listening to us about so many things! i was reading through some threads i had posted in over the past year, and discovered just how much our feedback about various things has made it into silverwastes.

1) event loot: based on event completion via bonus chests and prevents “fail-farming”

2) Breach boss fights that allow for certain control effects, without absolute defiant mechanics draining the fun out of the fights, while also creatively encouraging players to pay more attention in the battles.

3) better scaling at the low population end to allow for success with smaller numbers participating (pretty much fixing the main complaint about marionette)

4) Vinewraith meta boss, commonly and affectionately referred to as Marionette 2.0

5) bandit loot chests allows for loot trains (still encourages event completion to acquire shovels)

6) labrynthe allows for more loot trains (encourages breach and VW completion for greater nightmare keys)

7) an awesome jumping puzzle for those who love awesome jumping puzzles

8) [EDIT] and WvW features in PvE (dolyak escorts, siege at forts, air strikes) (thanks KG for reminding me of that one!) {/EDIT]

all these combined make for a very well designed zone. it allows for multiple ways of farming loot and rewarding event completion rather than “fail-training” and for the most part, the community loves taxiing players into specific instances of SW for Breach and Vinewraith, and even other instances specifically for bandit chest farming, while still allowing for chest farming during the “time-out” phase.

i also see people asking where they’re needed for the boss events during pretty much every 70% or higher foothold map. pretty much the only toxicity i see on the map is when the Mordrem own the coloured keeps, and an occasional frustrated player on a low population Vinewraith or breach attempt that doesn’t go so well.

i’ve also seen low population attempts barely succeed with seconds and a single siege carrier to spare! generally, people are giving out better tips in map chat on how to deal with specific champions, and people seem to be keeping their cool, and learning the fights better, too.

Bacon, ArenaNet, and again i say, Bacon to you, too!

Unless your suggestion echos another that’s already been proposed or, just a really, really good one; it’s probably going to be shot down by the forum community. If it’s related to something in GW1 ( outside of build templates ), definitely hold your tongue and keep it to yourself.

The suggestion forum wasn’t removed because they’re not interested in suggestions. It was removed because it became a kind of dumping ground with all types of suggestions mixed in together, often with titles like “Idea!” and “Why don’t Anet do this?” which made it virtually impossible for the developers to find ideas relevant to their work.

The idea now is that suggestions go in the relevant section of the forum (and in general discussion if there isn’t a section for it) so the developers can find them more easily. (And of course a clear title helps.)

There are plenty of examples of players suggestions which have been used, but as someone else said don’t expect it to happen quickly. If they haven’t already decided on at least the general idea for all the elite specialisations that will be in HoT then we really are going to be waiting a long time for the expansion.

More likely if they do like your idea the earliest you could expect to see it is the next expansion, after HoT. But the first step is to get other players behind the idea, to show Anet it’s worth considering.

There will always be people who tell you it’s a waste of time to post ideas. There are always people who tell you to post, because, hey, it doesn’t cost you much, so what have you got to lose?

I go by ANet’s track record:

  • There are features and concepts that appear to have been adopted only after discussion in these forums, critiques on reddit.
  • There are bugs that have been fixed due to similar feedback.

The biggest problem I see is that ANet is terrible about letting us know when this happens. For reasons good and bad, they don’t post much and of course, they can’t point to a single specific thread sometimes. But sometimes they fix or add stuff that could only have come about due to public feedback and there isn’t even a mention in the update notes.

tl;dr share your ideas here. People at ANet are influenced by what we post.

If your suggestions are WvW or dungeon related, I’d say don’t bother. If they are PvP suggestions, post them.

Here’s an example of a suggestion that was posted and implemented just in the last couple of months:

ArenaNet always encourages posting suggestions.

Good luck.
