I’ll pre-order/purchase as soon as I am able but I’ll definitely reconsider purchasing at the $100+ level if the only thing that separates it from the middle level is gems.
Years later, I do not regret buying the core game’s CE version AT ALL. But I do wrinkle my nose a bit thinking about what I paid for HoT. It’s not like I don’t buy gems throughout the year anyway. If I wanted physical goodies with the game, I should have purchased the middle level and spent the extra money on the Charr plushie or some other merch instead.
If I did I would just pre order it 6 hours before it launches to get the toon slot they decided to not include with the purchase, just like I did with HoT.
Not a huge fan of paying up front for something that doesn’t exist yet with nothing but marketing to go by.
Not buying if it’s less than 5 maps
Not buying if they are on timers
Not buying if all maps are events driven ( not explorable )
Not buying if no new race.
No way. I regret purchasing it to begin with. My guild quit because we collectively couldn’t afford the benefits of a guild hall/get back the upgrades we used to have due to our fairly small size, WvW died with horrible maps/mechanics, my source of in-game gold disappeared with the nerf to dungeons, and the classes are so imbalanced and power-creeped I’m amazed we haven’t seen more balance hotfixes because it’s a complete joke right now. We won’t even talk about the amount of blatantly unfinished content that was supposed to come with the expansion that still isn’t available. It’s sad to see that they’re already working on another expansion and yet they haven’t even finished the first one due to missing features that were promised to come with it.
Frankly, I’d have returned HoT on day 1 if ANet wasn’t going to close my account entirely if I were to return it. I feel bad for anyone who wasted $100.00 on the deluxe package.
I share that sentiment entirely. HoT has left a pretty sour taste in my mouth. Even now after the AmA and all the interaction that happened on reddit after Colin’s departure, i still feel mostly left in the dark about what and when to expect the finished product i already paid for months ago.
The only reason I can think of that I wouldn’t is if I stopped playing GW2 altogether. Which… I mean, I can’t guarantee won’t happen, but if it hasn’t happened after 3 years then it doesn’t seem particularly likely unless they make some really dramatic negative changes.
If I’m still playing GW2, then I will want access to the highest amount of content possible and to “keep up” with the current state of the game. And that means buying expansions. And if I’m definitely going to buy it, I may as well pre-order and grab whatever bonuses they’re offering, get beta access, and be able to play it ASAP which means less chance of getting spoiled.
No, HoT was horrible expansion, paid $60 for what I felt was $30 worth of content, next expan better be $40 and loaded with content, otherwise it’s time to move on from Guild Wars franchise..
Yes I will most likely pre-order next expac, as I’m one of the people who adores the game and HoT brought me a lot of fun , a lot of stuff to do and chase – like a TON of hours of gameplay. Only disappointment is legendary weapons , but so much disappointment there I can’t let go of it – feels like it ain’t gonna happen ..
I really like HoT and still believe that more is coming to complete this expansion.
So yes I will buy another and another as long as they keep them coming.
They have to seriously f up this game to have me not p(l)aying anymore.
Welllll….If the new expansion is like HoT in difficulty, then no way in H_ _ _will I buy it… However..if the freebie/special deal you get with the presell is worth it to me, then I will pre-purchase.
Anet, think of the solo players of this game. HoT and Raids gave hard content to the elite young whippersnappers, now it is our turn to get some new content..
There is no way I will pre-order anything from Anet. Broken promises and DLC passed off as an expansion with the only content being glider skins, raids and glider skins.
Good or bad, it took them 3 years for the first expansion so paying for it isn’t a big deal. I don’t think they will wait 3 years to come out with the next expansion but when it does, I won’t mind paying for it as well. There really isn’t anything else to play at the moment or near future so.
Only if the main features are clearly outlined in advance, too many shady things happened with the last one and I’m not talking about spoiling content, the whole mastery costs for example. Also if it is back to their core values regarding no grind and a lot of content for everyone then yes I will buy it.

I have already had so many times more value out of GW2/HoT than I have spent in money, I can’t think of anything else that keeps me so interested and entertained for such relatively tiny cost.
I didn’t want to pre-order HoT but I did because I’d get a free (for ‘veterans’) character slot out of it, which is valuable to me. I definitely believe purchasing an expansion should come with an extra character slot. If they give me a free incentive like that again, I will probably feel compelled to pre-order, otherwise I’ll just wait for regular release. With HoT, I fully expected to buy the expansion so missing out on the pre-order incentive would have been a missed opportunity for a free character slot.
Waited till I saw it for around 25(ish)EUR before bought it as that was price I was willing to pay for it in the current state. No pre-orders, first they need to show their stuff and it should be worth it (to me) to get my money.
Heck, I’ve been trying BDO out this week on a free trial and probably will buy it, though massive headaches have impacted my computer time the past few days and thus cost me a lot of my 7 day trial time.
Check if their rootkitprotection is not one messing with you. I thoroughly cleaned my PC after both similar titles that come lately (and I’ll never get near to them again) — with their complement of kittenware “protections”. Search “<rootkit name> removal” to check how to get rid of it.

At any relate, they never said how many Legendaries would be in this expansion. “We’ve been working hard on new legendary weapons, the first handful of which will be introduced in Heart of Thorns, with more to come in subsequent updates.”
Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns heralds the beginning of the first new set of legendary weapons to be added to the game since its original set of twenty included in the launch of Guild Wars 2. The first three we’ll release are a celestially themed axe called Astralaria, an experimental energy themed pistol called H.O.P.E., and a raven spirit themed staff called Nevermore. It takes a lot of work to craft these legendary journeys for release, so rather than take the time to develop the full set before releasing any of them, we will be releasing new legendary weapons in small groups at regular intervals until the full set of sixteen has been added to the game. Collections for the existing legendary weapons will be available on launch day, while the first three new legendaries will become available shortly after launch, alongside raids.

I will never own a legendary weapon, but still find this news troublesome. They talk about having 70 employees working on the next expansion, yet here they are indefinitely suspending work on content advertised in the current paid expansion to have those employees work on something different. Sounds like they should have taken employees from a different team.

Not really. I do kinda agree with his decision and legendaries aren’t greater than actual content for me. They clearly over reached hence why they started expac 2 already

The whole thing makes me wonder if they didn’t try for more than they could achieve and now have to retrench. If so, then coming forward and being honest about needing to pull back and put off some content until later is better than them hiding it and saying nothing. And if that was it then the next expansion will, hopefully, not have content that they will need to delay.

The sad thing is, yeah I probably will. I’ve enjoyed so many hours of the game that I just want more and as many times as I’ve felt screwed over, the fun times outweigh those. If the game was subscription based though, I would have been gone years ago.
Which is probably a good thing, at the moment i don’t believe the amount I paid for HoT was worth what we got. 5 whole months have passed and still no idea when the wvw overhaul will be, no ls3 before a full year after release, and now this.
And still no human female idle animation replacement that were promised like… 15 months ago now? 16?
