Pre-order next expansion?
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
I keep seeing people saying ArenaNet has lied about this expansion, and haven’t delivered.
I just got back to the game last week, can anyone enlighten me on what promises they have gone back on? Or is everyone just whining for the sake of whining?
It’s not about breaking promises (because, let’s be frank, Anet never promises much), but more about misinformation through omission. Anet withheld a lot of important info about the expac – the major part of this being the sudden change of game direction.
They may not have lied, but still what they delivered was not what majority of players expected.
Not that there weren’t things where Anet did promise and didn’t deliver (like elite specs supposed to be a sideways, not upward, upgrade to core class).
Which is why this time i’ll be waiting for more detailed info and way better communication before i’ll even consider preordering.

Pre-order next expansion?
Edit: Why is the gif so faqqed up? Wtf is wrong with this forum that it cant play a normal gif?

I believe that when a company shows that it can deliver good product, it’s okay to pre-order it.
Yesterday, I pre-ordered (Pokemon) Sun and Moon. I have no doubt this is a good choice.
I very much doubt I’ll do the same with the next GW2 expansion.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
Are they making another expansion?
Or is it another DLC in disguise?
I used to be a PvE player like you, then I played Guild Wars 2
I doubt it’ll surprise anyone that knows me that I’ll pre-order the next expansion the moment it’s available for sale. I’ve been happy with HoT (mostly — I very much dislike the implementation of guild hall decoration, for instance) and I have a history of pre-ordering any game I expect to play, so as to get the pre-order bonuses.
A habit broken by my awful experience with ArcheAge and TRION. Heck, I’ve been trying BDO out this week on a free trial and probably will buy it, though massive headaches have impacted my computer time the past few days and thus cost me a lot of my 7 day trial time. But I saw no reason to pre-buy something reviewed kitten grindy and PvP’y.
Nonetheless, I know what to expect with GW2, I know that they won’t deliver everything in one lump and then let us sit without anything new for a year. I fully expected that the HoT content would be an ongoing thing (maybe not quite as ongoing as the long wait for more legendaries and LS), so as long as I’m not in the poorhouse by the time the next expansion is ready to buy, I’ll buy it.
I will be a heck of a lot more cautious with giving this company any more of my hard earned money. $100 was way too much to spend on an unfinished expansion. I love certain aspects of the game, but can’t afford to spend any more money on it until they deliver all the things they promised for this expansion.
Still waiting for more than 3 new legendaries to choose from, the WvW overhaul, etc.
I will not pre-order again, and just wait until the next expansion goes on sale before buying it.
Impossible to say with certitude at this point. For me to prepurchase the next XPac, Anet would have to demonstrate some willingness to make it something I’d be very interested in. Implausible, but not impossible. I prepurchased GW2 based on trusting ANet to provide a quality product that meets my desires for a game. It was, for me, an excellent value. Since launch, however, ANet has demonstrated that they are much more interested in players with very different preferences than they are in keeping me engaged. HoT, which I got at a reduced price, has yet to get anywhere close to being worth the investment, and is not likely to. That trust has eroded.
No, I will not, but if it is a good one (no time gated crap) I will buy it. I love GW2, but the HoT maps just aren’t for me.

I pre ordered x4 for the entire family, and the thing I was looking most forward to was the guildhalls with a private arena. We were told “small guilds will be respected”…they never mentioned however that the implementation of the new content would be more difficult for micro guilds or that they may have to grovel and beg the community for help to claim a guildhall.
As far as I know the arena’s still don’t work and we decided not to drag our kid’s into trying to claim a hall….
Will I pre order again? Fool me once shame on you…fool me twice? Not happening.
Sure, I’d pre-order again. HoT wasn’t perfect and there were some aspects I didn’t care for, but it was enjoyable and to me it was well worth it overall. I’m sure I’ll enjoy the next one too.
If I’m going to buy it immediately anyway – which I would – I may as well take advantage of whatever bonuses come with the pre-order.
I’ll pre-order. It lets me divide the cost and not pay all at once. (I am paying for 4 accounts.) That is provided that I still feel welcome in this game at the time.
No, Unless it’s actually good. I only bought HoT for the Elite specs
Only bought HoT for precursor crafting. Though the Elite specs are nice (and would be hard to go back now)
I was really bitter after the visuals got nerfed just a few weeks after they released HoT. Waiting for them to make good on their promise to bring them back in April. If they do, then I may be willing to forgive. Otherwise, definitely a big “No” to any pre-orders in the future.
I’ll probably pay 100€ again for next pre-order expansion. Sure there have been some minor issues with hot but they’re dealing with those issues. The price is not just what came on expansion launch, it’s also the stuff that comes after it (including raids and LS3). Price/time spent ratio wise this game has been the most used for me. But I guess people like to pay 70€ for a game that lasts 10 hours!
I’ll preorder the next expansion sure because this is my favorite series but… how about letting the players vote on the weapons their class gets next time, eh?
I’d like to say probably not because of the lack of communication from devs (which is something that seriously ticks me off), but I know myself too well for that.
I’d do it in a heartbeat. Probably get the deluxe or the super mega deluxe too.
Is it going to be 50 dollars again and come with the base game for no reason?
I certainly would. GW2 has already given me more than my money’s worth multiple times over so paying another $50-100 in 2 or more years is no biggie for me personally.
Buying GW2 was like buying a lifetime pass to Universal Studios. Buying HoT was like buying a lifetime pass to Islands of Adventure. If there are preorder incentives like a character slot and skins I might as well since I’ll be playing it anyway.
Not unless there are significantly more enticements and much better content. The HoT expansion was really bad value. Still feels like two zones and two unfinished zones to me.
That’s because you, and probably the vast majority of posts after yours that I didnt bother reading, forget that HoT includes two different types of content:
- The HoT content itself
- Every LS3-LSWhatever release between HoT and the next expansion
No expac? No LS3+. HoT only shipped with the initial content, as well as all the game changes it brought, everything else is coming.
Finally, every time someone forgets this, Jormag eats a kitten. If you willingly “forget” this when posting, Jormag eats 10 kittens.
Is it going to be 50 dollars again and come with the base game for no reason?
If it doesn’t come with previous content then there will be no new players. My god, image having to buy every WOW expansion.

should be 20 for those that already paid for core, repaid for hot, 60 for those that haven’t bought core/hot. But no preorder from me.
Depends if it will be a real expansion or another season pass.
Is it going to be 50 dollars again and come with the base game for no reason?
I’m not sure how you figure there’s no reason for HoT to come with the base game that’s already mostly free to play anyway.
For one thing, Anet has to compete with other MMOs, which are doing the very same thing.
And removing barriers to entry for new players is good for the game over all. New players start MMOs late at a serious disadvantage. Anything a company can do to encourage more people to play in this day and age is a good thing, yes, even for veterans.
Saying there’s no reason to include it doesn’t mean there’s no reason to include this.
It means more people buy HoT, it means more people in those zones which are often more fun with more people.
95% chance I will pre-order. The 5% is there because you can’t pre-ordain the future.
HoT was my last pre-order from Anet.
I may eventually buy the next expansion depending on what it brings and if I am playing again, but pre-ordering more raids and DLC: Won’t happen.
Is it going to be 50 dollars again and come with the base game for no reason?
The free base game is to encourage new players to join them. I will always prefer that than Anet blocking potential new players to my community by expecting them to buy all previous content as well as the new expansion.

I did that two expansions ago, when Cataclysm came out. It was NOT nice on my wallet to shell out $120 on content I wouldn’t get to enjoy (The experience of Outland in its prime, and experience of WotLK in its prime as well). Thanks to the lack of Guild Wars 2’s Power Creep and Content Obsolescence, players aren’t quite missing out on so much joining late (Other than completely missing out on the original and actually fun New Player Experience, back when End Game Starts At Level 1, weapons had the warm-up unlocks instead of requiring level-grinding to unlock all weapon traits, then dumping all weapon abilities on you. And Traits were fun to unlock (Prior to the “Hunt for Traits” fiasco) and… bleh. They made improvements at end-game over the years, but killed the original awesome NPE (No, not the current “NPE”.)
It depends on the price and the amount of contents they are going to offer. I don’t particularly enjoy this expansion much, so Anet will have to try harder to convince me to buy it next time.
I will pre order but I will wait until I get a release date.
I might not get the $100 version again.

Is there refund for those who pre-ordered LANDMARK?
This seemed pretty obvious to me from the start. They never had any intention of making that game, the whole thing was a cash grab to work on their engine and software design. I’m surprised they dragged it out this long though.
As for gw2, if i’m still playing then I will probably pre-order the expansion. HoT was a little disappointing to me, but I enjoyed the new legendary journey and I like the new raids. I liked the story (until the end) too, which is mostly why I played GW these past few years. I hope we get more story soon.
The lack of updates to the story has been the biggest problem to me. I miss the continuing 2 week story as it gave you something to break up the grinding.
Never again. No pre-order ever again.
They can put as much exclusive crap as they want. I will not dish out one penny till six month after. See if the game has proven it self & still have a healthy amount of population.
I pre ordered the 100$ version. Was absolutely not worth it. Should of went for the 50$ one instead.
Actually it was a pre-purchase, not a pre-order, which is different.
But, yes. Yes. If there is the option and I’m able to, I will pre-purchase the next expansion like I did with HoT. (bought the deluxe edition for $75).
Is it going to be 50 dollars again and come with the base game for no reason?

Because they should be buying the core game + HoT as a newbie bundle at 50 dollars. Veterans shouldn’t be buying the same thing they are. The Xpan should be alone and have it’s own price for us.
I will defenetly pre order I like playing the beta weekends.
put the correct term in but not everyone has kittens
I will buy the next expansion for sure, but I am less keen on the idea of pre-ordering. I really have to disagree with the notion that Arenanet “lied” about things that were coming with the game.
However at the same time I cannot deny that the game was released in a state where things that were suppose to be in the game simply were not there yet. There is the issue with legendary weapons not coming out in a timely manner, raids not quite being there.
HoT requiring a number of changes and adjustments like elite spec skill point requirements or the game not fitting with core Guild Wars 2 design philosophies as we still are waiting on the details for what they are changing for HoT in April.
I overall like HoT, I love the game and I am still confident Arenanet can and will do a great job with the game and whatever else comes afterwards. I am disappointed that things felt like and still feel like some things were rushed out the door before it was all there.
Sort of feels like Street Fighter V honestly. Solid foundation but there is a lot of gutted or incomplete things for a full priced title.

To be fair on the legendary weapons, they may have had originally planned on more being released, but held back due to the concerns and issues that have come up with the current batch of legendary weapons. So instead of having 13+ weapons to go through and fix events after they’ve been launched, they’re making sure the events are fixed before they release them. And any other issues that have come up in regards to them.

This is a bit sketchy given that Living Story was supposed to be the GW2 model. So HoT doesn’t so much “include” LS3, it actually just sets up a pay wall to LS3.
Obviously from a customer perspective that does mean you have to buy HoT to get LS3, but I really don’t think that can be used to argue that HoT is good value. Especially when we had to go through a massive content drought in the run up to HoT, and will be in one for several more months now.
Absolutely not. I never got my money’s worth from HoT.
Absolutely yes! I’ve got so many game hours for 100€ already and there’s still a lot of stuff I haven’t done.
You must be joking and in case that wasn’t clear enough, NO! I’m still waiting for the rest of my moneys worth from buying HoT.
I’ll just wait over here in Black Desert Online. GW will need to do something very very special to fight off this kind of competition and I was a loyal GW supporter since Factions was released.
HoT killed the game for me forcing me to look around, I’ll not pre-order anything GW related again (I pre-ordered BDO and was very happy with that result).
Welcome to the Internet, exposing characters since the early 80’s.
I prepurchased HoT because what they offered sounded great to me. I did wait first, though, for Anet to correct the situation about the “not so clear” marketing strategy (When they allowed refunds for game copys purchased during sales and added the extra character slot for “veteran” players). I don’t regret at all the prepurchase: betas were great, the extra slot was nice, having fun with gliding and testing Revenants and Reapers during their polishing was amazing. While a lot of the new additions have still some issues to solve, I really like HoT. IMO, it is a great product.
That said, I will NOT preorder based on what HoT is. IF I prepurchase the next Expac, it will be, again, based on what Anet offer at that moment.
So, I don’t know. I will know when they begin selling the new Expac, not before.
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

Im kinda split about it. Anet has basically removed everything i love from the game. I loved Living world in season 1 mode, hated living story 2 because it was instanced mode with short stories and not any good reward. They nerfed fractals, so you basically get less reward from high fractals now than you did before at 50. Besides that people without Hot cant do high level fractals. They removed basically all rewards from dungeons which lead to no people do them anymore. It was an alternative way to gain gold and now i have to do the same fractals over and over and get bored while i do it bc theres no variety in this game anymore. I also have to level hot masteries in the same 4 maps in hot zones over and over and im about to get a braindamage from repeating it too much since i cant lvl them in core tyria (play how you want philosophy). Cant level them in wvw either…
Do i even have to mention more things why im not satisifed with how gw2 used to be compared to now?
Because of this, if not the new expansion brings more variety of things which is rewarding that i can do, and that i can play the game how i want to achieve these things, im not sure if ill preorder or even buy the upcoming expansion. Maybe when the third expansion comes in 2 years ill get worth for my money since anet seems to think 4 maps is ok in an expansion and nerf everything else. The price for that amount/small content is not worth 50 dollars.
Urgh im just sad about how this game has become. It has walked away from its core philosophy way too much and now i barely enjoy it anymore. Despite this, gw2 has a place in my heart and i want it to succeed.

More than likely…yes.
I was NOT disappointed by HoT, I certainly will pre-purchase another expansion.
No reason to preorder, they’re not running out any time soon.
Actually it was a pre-purchase, not a pre-order, which is different.
But, yes. Yes. If there is the option and I’m able to, I will pre-purchase the next expansion like I did with HoT. (bought the deluxe edition for $75).
Difference is that in pre-purchase you give a company your cash without any reviews about their selling thing and in pre-order you give a company your cash without any reviews about their selling thing. In both cases you only get to know what they will show and tell you.
Will i pre-‘insert word here’ next X-pac?
Never in my life i was and never will pre-something anything without extended knowledge about a product especially DLCs. (hot was dlc and not an actual x-pac)
Trust no one.
Actually it was a pre-purchase, not a pre-order, which is different.
Both terms were misused so much by the publishers that now they are basically the same thing.
The only difference between a pre-purchase and pre-order is when you are charged.
Only if they give Warriors Great Axes.
