(Proof) DR hits before meta event ends.
I don’t want to grind CoF for mastery exp, but at the moment, it’s looking like the only choice.
Just out of curiosity, what was that particular char doing and where the previous time you played it?
ANet may give it to you.
DR doesn’t go away if you log out. It only goes away if you change maps and let time pass.
For instance if you left your char in SW from the day before it still counts all those events you did yesterday towards the DR.
Not saying that’s how it should be, but that’s how it currently works.
Last time I played was last night, and I did the two daily fractals.
At the start of the event, I was getting normal exp, defending forts, escorting yaks, tossing rubble. That exp just decreased over time to what you see in the pictures.
I literally hadn’t touched SW in days.

Yep, and I think it’s incredibly annoying. I have quite a number of characters that I play regularly, but they each have their own things they’re good at and that’s what I use them for. I switch characters to add variation to my gameplay, often keeping individual characters in specific places. It’s really annoying to get DR on characters that I can’t even remember for when I played them last.
That’s not actual DR as most people know it. The game does cap how much event XP you can earn in a given time, and it does that across zones. If you were getting reduced rewards at Vinewrath, and then went to join Frozen Maw as it was starting up right away, you’d continue to get reduced rewards for events there as well until you get back within what they think is the right amount of events per minute/events per ten minutes.
So it’s “just” reduced XP, rather than your loot being cut off as it would be with the DR from lingering in one spot. Of course, reduced XP is still bad for people going after Masteries..
Reduced exp like that is bad design then. It shouldn’t be possible in normal play to even hit anti-farming/anti-botting mechanisms, much less see them hammer down that hard.
It creates a very powerful sense of cognitive dissonance- the player wants to complete the meta event for rewards and to help other players, but they’re better off just farming monsters since those don’t give reduced exp.
It actually enforces grinding rather than prevents.

You have a source?
I’ve had the game reduce XP when I’ve played in one area for a period of time but it went away when I changed maps. Not saying this is good design or anything like that. Only that it was map specific.

In my experience, changing maps does NOT necessarily remove DR.
Example
I was farming an area and hit DR. I then left the map, did a world boss event then went to a different map and did another boss and then logged off for the night. Next day I logged back on, went to LA for a half hour doing character maintenance then went back to my farming area from yesterday. DR was still in effect.
So that was changing 3 maps, doing two other events, logging out for the day and a half hour downtime in LA.
I have experienced the same today in silverwaste. Every escortevent gives ~1000 exp lesser exp-reward than the previous. I even ended up on ~1800 exp for the champevents after vinewrath… At first i thought i has overdone it with my necro who nearly lives in sw because i like her chilling gameplay and have designed her build specificaly for sw. I have switched charakter and went a second time to the silverwastes. At first it has looked like my exp has normalised. But then i noticed a reduction in exp gain after every event with the new charakter also. I dont know what it is, but i really think its wrong they way it is. I mean its like a sick joke if simply grinding cof p1 mobs is a better supported way to gain exp then running events on a map.
Wow – this is just sad beyond belief.
Sometimes I wonder if the alternative to CoF p1 is viable or fun – then you see threads like these.
Bumping this because it’s seriously messed up. I ended up just CoF farming for 2 hours to finish out my masteries.
I was getting 2.1k-2.2k exp per monster in CoF (with boosters and food, which only affect exp from kills and not from events). That means every 2 monsters was more rewarding exp-wise than one entire event in Silverwastes toward the end of the meta event.
That’s absolutely insane. I can’t imagine how long it would have taken me to grind them out during regular play. Months, probably.
Wish I could say I’m surprised that Anet would do this to the players, but.. no. lol.

OTT DR was a huge issue a few months after the games launch, as per usual it will be ignored.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro
It’s why i currently set up TWO characters with full gear and stuff and a teleport contract (airship and royal terrace). I farm with one a vinewrath. Log to next, do it again, teleport both to city, afk a bit, do Verdant brink if i want, rinse and repeat after several hours passed. That’s how I get a relative good mastery exp farm speed atm. But it’s still slow. If you do silverwaiste non stop, hitting a huge DR wall, sometimes it transfers over to other maps. Like if you do silverwaiste 200 events (about 185 with DR) then go to orr, first event will give 18000, second 15000 third 12000 or something like that. While normally if you don’t do crazy as this, new maps have their own similar 10-15 events ‘normal exp, before DR’ cap.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.

Just find an empty 60+ map and grind max bonus mobs with a high damage/mobility character for about 2 million an hour, it’s not as fast as CoF but it’s way faster than trying to do events.
I just experienced this weird “bug” or whatever it is. I’ve been playing my revenant for the whole night, then I decided to go do tequatl, since I have no map completion I logged in my elementalist. Usual waiting time, about 15-20 minutes for spawn.
I started getting the usual xp from defense events (16k or so), then on 2nd phase I get 12k, on 3rd I get 8-9k (all gold).
After tequatl, I use to go and do the frozen maw event, so I do that. My surprise is when I am getting gold on events there aswell and getting like 3k xp. Ok, I was thinking, DR hit me in a weird way, so I decide to test it and go to a different zone, so I go to silverwastes to find that I’m getting 3k xp for lvl 80 events.
So, how am I suppossed to farm xp for my masteries if I can’t farm xp for more than 30-40 minutes?
Sorry for my english, not my native language.
I’m sure this is intentional. Artificially expanding the time required to do anything is a trend in GW2 these days.
I have not been to Silverwastes for months first time back there yesterday and by the end of it experience was at about 3k.
I joined the map at about 75% so is it another wonderful bug or do we all have to go do Cof p1 for masteries, so much for play the way you want.
