I’m guessing we’re stuck with these RNG boxes. If that is the case, I’d like to see the odds of getting a rare weapon skin voucher. It’s not good enough to say you have a “rare” chance. What is rare? Rare as hen’s teeth? Rare like a steak?
If you insist on these RNG boxes, let’s be transparent about it. Let people know what their odds are, so at least they can make an intelligent decision about whether or not they wish to participate.
Would like to know what the % chance of the different drops are. Other games are open about things like this.
The only issue I can foresee with this is someone deciding to ‘test’ the chances. Say you supposedly have a 1 in 1000 chance. If someone buys 1000 boxes, and doesn’t get a ticket, they are going to explode about how Anet is lying to us (when it’s really not that cut and dry when it comes to RNG).
Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Most definitely agree with Vayne.
I suppose asking why he got an infraction is illegal. So then this time I won’t mention anything, but we all would like to know why and why are you infracting the rest of us.
I like the way they made this event, with the Southsun crates it was pretty difficult to get them. I got 15 the entire time and got a ticket on my 12th. With these, they drop like candy, meaning you don’t have to buy them with real money or in-game money. You can get ~100 coffers PER hour on a empty-ish map.
Sure they should have had a 5-10% chance, but it’s the nature of the game. Just have the foresight to realize its a month long event and the drop rates of the coffers won’t go down. People need candy for the wings and achievements, how do you get those? Kill holo creatures and coffers.

I totally agree with Vayne… Never tought i’d seen that day, lol.
Begrudgingly, I agree with Vayne as well. Never thought Id see the day, but the man has a point. If the current trend of gear “progression”, even if it is cosmetic, is to be driven by RNG, lets see what is really meant by rare. A chance at a precursor…is that 1 in 10,000? A chance at a skin. Is that 1 in 5000? Last night alone, in 1 hour of play, I opened around 50 coffers. Nothing but candy and some fireworks. Wasted time, and if I had spent $$ to purchase with gems, it would have been wasted money as well.

Yep, like most overlooked on the forums, lets not get this thread turned into a giant finger to anyone. Lets make our points when we have them to make and let the moderation do what they need to in the meantime. You can personally make your decision on moderation without having to post it. =]

you see the rich coffer on the TP says that there’s a “rare” chance to get a voucher. If one decides not to farm the regular coffers, but to buy these I think that they have the right to know for what kind of chance are they paying.

Thanks for your understanding.
Now I respect everything that you do, and that your team does, but doesn’t letting everyone know that a user has been infracted for a post kind of illicit that type of response in every case? I’m wondering why it’s even there if it shouldn’t be discussed.
I’m done. You won’t hear me mention it again, I promise. xoxo

Otherwise, its a gamble correct? And we have pointed that out, in a different thread, that gambling does not exist in this game…or at least some seems to think it doesnt. If it doesn’t exist, then we should know what to expect.

I can only tell you my odds obviously. I opened 1750 boxes I bought from the TP (the normal coffers obviously…not the rich ones) and also what I farmed (approximately 150 boxes. So, 1900 boxes or therabouts and I got:
Enough Zhaitaffy for exactly 3 Jorbreakers and I have 56 remaining. So 3056.
10 Risen Knight minis.
3 Hot potions
4 cold potions
1 Hard potion
1 charged potion
2 tickets.
So….MY odds of a ticket were 0.105%.
Quite waht I will do with the Jorbreakers is a mystery since theres no use for them other than the wings which can now be bought for les than 25g as someone in their infinite wisdom decided to make the wings also a random drop? Ill conceived at best.

I never said I disagreed, I do think they should know what they are getting into, but with this being the 4th time this kind of “system” has been done, I would hope they know by now.

If they told people the odds a lot less people would buy them and they would make less money.
This may be. But my loyalty and view of a company will compel me to spend in other areas.
The way we are treated as paying customers go much further than most realize. Even if in the short term it costs them some coin…in the long term, if you’ve done right by me, I’ll be spending money. Lots of it.
I kind of wanted to quote Bruce Wayne here, but saw no clever opportunity: “You don’t understand. One fundraiser with my pals, you’ll never need another cent.”

Are you implying that your rich enough to make up for the losses they will inevitably have if they disclose this info? And are willing to throw enough money at them to offset the losses if they change?

“They told me there was nothing out there, nothing to fear. But the night my parents were murdered I caught a glimpse of something. I’ve looked for it ever since. I went around the world, searched in all the shadows. And there is something out there in the darkness, something terrifying, something that will not stop until it gets revenge… RNG.”
I completely agree with the OP. If RNG is here to stay then I think it’s fair that we know the odds of what we are paying gems for. Keep the odds on any dropped RNG boxes a secret for all I care, but if I’m paying gems directly for something I would like to know the odds.
I’ve sworn off RNG after what I felt was a poor investment (90 southsun crates for 1 ticket). I would have liked to have known the odds before I spent that money. I’m not mad about it as I chose to spend the money with unknown odds. I simply won’t do that again.
Allow rng boxes to be purchased in gem store with “better chances at the drop”.
Allow the boxes to be obtained in game with lower chance at tickets.
Allow skins to be earned through difficult and lengthy means, but without time limitations. (Or stretch the time limitations to an acceptable length)
Add more armor/weapon skins to gem store as well as to the game to fill in the gap.
I have been very unlucky in general with the RNG with this game…
But I got a voucher this time around in roughly the 15th dragon festival chest I picked up. So now I have the dragon GS skin… It has changed my life. If I die today, I will die happy…
I agree that knowing the odds on purchased RNG crates would make it a bit less shady. I’ve mentioned this in many threads related to the RNG crates. I’ve bought some here and there and just got the basic stuff. Generally I buy them after some other gem store purchase and have a few gems left over. If there isn’t something else I want at the time I’ll pick one up to take a chance. However, it would depend on the odds if I do this again. If it was 1:100,000,000,000 I probably would just save the gems for later.
Well the thing is with the new event you can get the “main” items from that event from chest that are dropped by the mobs. The chase for somthing to drop init self is a type of RNG and its adds a lot of play to the game by having it. As for the chest it self if they just simply had the items 100% then the mobs would most likely be less like to drop thoughs chest. That is the question you must ask your self what do you like more
More chest lower chase to get “the items” or less chest but a higher chase to get “the item.”
No mmorpg will hand you items that what an mmorpg is but there are ways with in the system to make it more satisfying to play and Anet chose the best way for this event.

The MMO I came here from, people begged the devs to publish the odds on some of the lockboxes, sometimes because the boxes having no odds table was of questionable legality where many players lived. (Bear in mind that in that game, lockbox rewards conferred a huge in-game advantage)
It would be nice to see ANet break the mold I suppose.
Yeah, this is something that bothers me about the wiki too. That even though we have all these millions of players killing things and getting items, we have few if any drop chance data on almost anything. I think this problem is directly because there are no mods. In world of warcraft, there were a few mods that people would run that would mostly just sit in the background, collect data, and then automatically upload that data to a central site. In this way, it gathered the data from thousands of players without any sampling bias. And as such, the drop chance figures on places like wowhead and thottbot were very close to the actual number within just a few hours of new content going live.
yup my friend killed all my excitement when he told me “I had to buy 180 keys” for a fused ticket skin.
also another friend told me he spent 40 dollars gambling scelerite skins, failed, dropped another 50 and finally got 1 skin. 90 dollars irl cash vs me farming gems for gold in game? Noooo ty
Also have had TWO friends quit after gambling 700G in the forge of greatswords and fail to get dusk or dawn,.

I agree for once especially with the boxes that we buy from the gem store.

I have a feeling that people wouldn’t purchase any of the RNG items if we knew the odds.
I would agree if it weren’t for the fact that millions of dollars are spent everyday on lottery tickets to which we all know (or can easily find out) the odds.
Be careful what you wish for, Anet might just give it to you “HoT”
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
I have a feeling that people wouldn’t purchase any of the RNG items if we knew the odds.
I still would not buy them…wish they would just sell them directly in the gem store. The fact that they don’t says a lot about how they feel about the average gamer…hint: Its not nice…lol

I’m not enough into the game because of boredom, but if I was I would actually consider buying the skins directly and never through RNG.

Odds are funny things, a coin has a 50% chance of landing on one side or the other, so it would be easy to presume that if you flipped the coin 50 times it would land on either side 25 times. If you presumed that, you’d be wrong. The coin could easily land on one side all 50 times.
For 1 in 1000 or whatever to work as that player might expect, each RNG box would have to be part of a sequence.
My guess is they work more like lottery scratch-offs, with each one having the same chance to a “winner.” Meaning that if someone did try to check up on Anet’s odds, then came on the forums proclaiming them to be a “lie,” they’d only be doing a disservice to the rest of the community by spreading false information.
Still, I think it’s reasonable that Anet posts the odds for their RNG boxes, giving potential buyers more information to base their purchase on. Transparency can’t hurt, unless the boxes are a complete rip-off (which I’m not saying they are, btw).
“I think a man does what he can, until his destiny is revealed to him.”
What? Vayne is the LEAST likely of anyone on the forums to be negative about anything – how in the world did he get infracted? (I know I’ll get infracted, but I also know the mods’ track record, so I’m not surprised.)
Seriously, Vayne wouldn’t bash Anet if they came to his house, sodomised him then sacrificed a bunch of kitties on his lawn.
EDIT: c’mon folks – there’s a lot of unwarranted Vayne bashing in this thread – he’s a genuinely good dude, helps folks in game and in forum, and despite the whole rose-tinted-glasses thing, rarely speaks untruths. Yeah, he’s too much a cheerleader for my taste, but the dude is one of the few honestly nice guys on the forums.
How did Vayne’s post get infracted? Vayne actually has a very valid point here. Wanting to know the chances of getting what you’re buying the box for is fair. If someone came up to me with a box and said, “There’s a million dollars in this box, and you can have it if you guess the number in my head. But, there’s no number range I can give you so you don’t know what the chances are of getting it.”, I’d probably guess a number and then punch them in the face. The mere fact that Anet doesn’t want people to know the real chances of getting items makes me believe that Anet is doing this for profit and nothing more. Yeah, I completely see where Guild Wars 2 is going. Bye Bye Guild Wars 2 and any further Anet products for the rest of my life.
