Could you like notice people how much your ascended items actually cost?
As PVPer now i have spent everything i had to get 450 tailor + exotic version of spinal blades +farmed all those ascended materials. So month of gametime + 100 gold and i thought im almost done with it.
Then i understood to get last 50 levels + 15 bolt of damask is at least another 250 gold!
IVE NEVER EVEN SEEN 200 GOLD!
If you put a fancy backpack then you could at least say that approximate cost will be 400 gold + long time of trying to get ascended materials instead of expecting that everyone gotta sit down with calculator for hour and calculate the cost of everything.

So thanks for wasting everything i had saved up for… 450 tailor… now i can at least have some bloodstone bricks in my back while roaming wvw or doing pvp, cause obviously im not even halfway to getting the backpack i wanted.

You don’t use the trading post much, huh? Those prices aren’t static, and are set by our fellow players. It’s not possible for ANet to send cost notices about a player controlled market.

Yeah, tailors are pretty much effed with the upgrade. Leatherworking is like how much cheaper?
Balancing was never a strength of ANet, be it classes, items or the market.

Why does a pvper need ascended items?

I dont need ascended items for all i care it can have no stats at all, all i need is cyber looking backpack with blue shine!
Its the perfect back item for my WvW gear! One thing i wanted in this game, after 1.5 years of playing it. Is 1.5 years enough to earn one kitten shiny backpack that perfectly fits you? NO! I was shocked when i realised that it will cost me more than 100 gold for this backpack, but now im just speechless… if i would know that crafting one item costs 400 gold i would never even consider starting it.

Thing is, most of the material costs are set by players, not Anet. About a year ago, getting copper and iron and whatnot was a fraction of the cost of what it is now. These prices increased because of the demand of the players and the people who play said market.

This is why there is no ‘set cost’. Because as long as materials are controlled by players via the market, there will never be such a thing.

Nah, this is because crafting damask takes just so much more stuff than crafting other ascended ressources.

I have used like 100 different items to get this backpack, sorry i didnt check every single items price before starting.
But common sense somehow didnt let me assume that one ingredient will cost me more than getting profession to 500 and making 4 previous versions of the backpack.

Why did you buy the recipe for Tailor that requires Damask? Armorsmith/Leatherworker would have been a billion times cheaper (and it makes 0 difference which profession you use to craft it).

Finished the backpack last week and it did not cost 400g. But I did not buy every piece to get it either. I think Dulfy has gone through the costs each time she posts a new item.

I thought it would be better to level tailor for necromancer than leatherworker or armorsmith, kitten me right?

You are correct. If you want to make other armor for your necromancer, it is better to have the tailor. Levelling leatherworker just for one backpack makes little sense.

No, it does:

T)

L)

T) http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/46741 12g x 15=180g
L) http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/46739 4.03g x 15=60,4g

Total Tailor specific cost: 23+75,5+180=278,5g
Total Leatherworker specific cost: 21,6 + 83,4g + 60,4 = 165,4
note: these costs only show the difference in cost for different professions with leveling 0-500, not the total cost of the backpiece!

Total difference for L vs T ascended spinal blades: 113,1 g

Which means that even if you level Leatherworker from 0 to 500 now to craft the backpiece, you will save 8 gold, plus get a maxed profession and 7-10 levels for your alt if you use it for crafting. That part is a mess, please read my next message below ^^’

20 level 80s and counting.

Don’t craft it with Tailor. .-. Save up hundreds of gold and max Leatherworking now. XD

But that 8 gold will not go far if he still needs to level the tailor for other things.

I might have been in a hurry and miscalculated, sorry. Let’s re-calculate:

  • If I have a Tailor at 0 and decide to level a Tailor and to craft a Tailor gift, it costs me 278,5g.
  • If I have a Tailor at 500 and decide to craft a Tailor gift, it costs me 180g.
  • If I have a Leatherworker at 0 and decide to level a Leatherworker and to craft a Leatherworker gift, it costs me 165,4g.
  • If I have a Leatherworker at 500 and decide to craft a Leatherworker gift, it costs me 60,4g.

So, even if you have a Tailor at 500, you save 180g-165,4g = 14,6 gold, plus get a maxed profession and 7-10 levels for your alt if you use it for crafting. Even if you don’t, it’s still more profitable (at this specific moment of time with these costs!) to level a Leatherworker only for the gift, and also to level a Tailor if you need it. However, most crafted items are sold for less than they cost because they are used for leveling, and the only reason to level is if you want to get the non-tradeable Ascended armour/weapons.

20 level 80s and counting.

You’re like Xerxes, demanding the sea to obey and do your wil.
Sadly, it won’t happen.

All I can say : get a stick in your mouth like most of players do to prevent biting tongue and farm dungeons/bosses/champions for a week like a true legal bot.

Or play the market by yourself.

I only spent 30g or less if you count the leather I already had.

If you just want the skin, why do you care if you get it as Ascended or Exotic? Is there a difference between them, skinwise? As to the color, I’m not sure if you can add it to Exotic version or it only works on Ascended, and the wiki is broken for me atm.

I’m saying this because I made the backpiece only as far as Exotic in order to be able to access Scarlet and it seems the same skin to me…

I think…Exotic – 3 arms, Ascended – 4 arms (per side) and only Ascended can be colored.

Ascended has 8 arms and glows gold all over. The colored ones have a more filling glow and of course.. a new color that may match your setup better. I got the Dynamic one because it matched my Sylvari’s glow and the glow of my favorite sword; Ilex of Dreams. Also Amenity dye works well with it.

And of course, ascended give higher stats and the colored one is easier to infuse, which allows you to socked a wvw infusion. Stat boost are still boosts, regardless of how small you may think it is, it’s still helping.

It could be, but the difference in price between 3 pairs of arms and 4 pairs of arms+color is truly brobdingnagian and one has to wonder if it’s truly worth it. If OP finds that to him it is worth it, then farming is the way to go, unless he gets a really really lucky drop in WvW…

It’s because the medium armor classes aren’t as popular as heavy or light armored ones. Need I say more? Not to mention I get a bajillion more leather drops than I do cloth or heavy.
