Nothing drops anymore. I used to occasionally get an exotic but I haven’t seen one in 6 months. Are they being fazed out or something? (That wasn’t sarcasm) Rare’s are getting boring every time. yeah, you can salvage for ecto, but they are otherwise useless. It would be nice to get something I want or need to drop.

Even exotics are not as much fun because they’ve been out classed by ascended. Which don’t drop in PVE at all other than weapon caches. I’ve only managed to get two of those.

You guys have been moving in the direction of making this a lootless game for some time now. You pulled out the dyes and black lion keys. Drops are fun. Please reinstitute them ASAP.

You need to salvage exotics for dark matter. Sounds tough but you can craft them. I obtained 23 dark matters from salvaging my weaponsmithing exotics. You can get some ectos back too. Highly recommended it is to use a black lion salvage kit.

I miss the good old days of Guild Wars 1, where the drops were decent. Even if one was unlucky in monster drops, one could always gamble with the treasure chests and get lucky (elite tomes) or super lucky (rare skins). The payout wasn’t skewed like the modern Mystic Forge.

Been there, done that. What’s next?

They just recently upped the drop rates on black lion keys. Sure it’s still very low, but it is something. They only pulled loot away from areas which would cause ppl to farm in a bad way, like the PS or events where failing or manipulating to get more mobs and thus more loot. Lets not go back to the days when ppl ignored Jormag just to farm his champs. Silverwastes works without drops because you get rewarded for the completion of the event – exactly how it should be.

So drops are still in game and mostly as abundant as ever.

Doesn’t mean the discussion on loot quality or RNG shouldn’t continue though..

That’s quite a rabbit hole though. I strongly recommend some gems to gold especially for dyes but don’t rely on it too much and still do some actual farming. In other words mix it up. That way you can keep your gems for nice outfits while still crafting ascended in a reasonable time. With gems to gold however you still won’t be able to buy enough bolts of damask at least in the first session.

I agree the discussion should continue. Silver wastes is a laggy mess for me. I’m not alone on this. Why should we be funneled to specific areas or fractals for loot?

To your point about Champs, I want to see more uniformity in drops anyway. Champ bags don’t drop anything for me anyway. (never, not once) I agree, If there is an exploit it should be addressed. I have no problem with that.

I agree… anything that could have potentially been farmed/grinded has had all of its loot stripped.

There are hundreds of areas in the game where you don’t get any loot from foes.

I understand that you don’t want players to repeatedly kill the same foes over and over again to get loot…. but you are punishing ALL of your playerbase for a crime that nobody is even able to commit.

Games in the Super Nintendo era knew how to award players loot and experience the first time they killed a group of foes, and remove all rewards if you failed and had to retry and kill the same foes again.

Why, in 2015, is anet cutting these corners, and punishing all players instead of only the grinders?

Lets take path 2 CoF for example.

When you are Defending Magg….. you obliterate a massive amount of flame legion…. not a single one of them drops anything.

The foes should drop loot the first time you kill them while attempting to defend….. and if you fail to defend magg and must retry, the foes should not drop any loot.

Its not rocket science….. but due to a lackadaisical development team everyone gets screwed because someone tried to farm in that spot once upon a time.

This is not a F2P, we shouldn’t have to pay for our drops. I bought the game and would have been willing to buy the expansion if the game was on point, but it is not. Forget gems, not gonna happen with things as is. (meaning no loot, and the game being a laggy mess.)

This has happened before. Most recently, a player running with me on his very first dungeon walked away with Colossus. He didn’t even know what he had.

I don’t believe magic find even works.

You & I must be playing a different game. Exotics have never dropped in great numbers and how many drop for each of us depend on any number of factors, including how many foes you kill — people who skip trash mobs speed up their dungeon runs and reduce their chances of getting rares & exotics.

ANet has, if anything, increased the amount of loot in the game. Instanced content and level ups includes guaranted drops, there are bonus chests with guaranteed rares, and champ bags galore. (The sole exception seems to have been the Mordrem Invasion.)

Let me just add something else. The rares I’ve been getting are mostly from the bonus chests. I just did Jormag and was rewarded with blues and greens. Really?? Blues and greens for an epic boss?

The Claw of Jormag’s event-ground has always dropped mostly blues & greens, the same as that for every other epic boss. The bonus chest, however, includes a guaranteed rare and a couple of champ bags.

Regardless of the actual drop rates, increasing them won’t please anyone for more than a month. When more stuff drops, everyone ends up with more wealth and ends up willing to pay more for “necessities” and luxuries on the TP, driving up prices and increasing people’s appetite for still more rares and exotics.

Besides that, human nature inevitably leads to people getting used to the new status quo and eventually feeling that it’s not enough. We all want drops to feel special and that’s impossible if you play long enough. (That is one advantage of the gear-grind in other games: there’s frequently tons of new stuff to aspire towards.)

tl;dr all sorts of stuff drops in the game; we’re just used to it and don’t think it’s remarkable.

Drops occur at the Mystic Forge. Take all those garbage weapons, salvage, craft rares and flush. The upside is that you get some control over what you get by flushing 4x something, downside is RNG. But at least you’ll see some exotics now and then.

GW2 has, without a doubt, one of the worst, if not , THE worst system for loot in all of MMORPGs….

All you do is farm scraps (salvagable junk like blue-yellow gear, and champ bags with more junk)
You can’t even go to a particular spot to farm a certain T6 mat you might need for legendary, or a certain skin or dye you might want.

No, you farm scraps and you sell/salvage those scraps until you have x amount of gold, than you purchase whatever you wanted….

Exotics? lol. Majority of them are barely worth a few gold.

No one gets excited about a drop in this game. There are FAR too few drops that make you go “ahhh finally, it dropped!!!”…

Its gotten worse and worse.

Look at where we are at now. Majority of the players just farm in silverwastes/chest train. Farm as much “scraps” as possible, sell it, than buy what they want from TP.

That is not a fun loot system…heck its not even a loot system. I don’t even consider that crap loot, unfortunetly, its the best way to make gold in this game, and gold is the quickest way to get what you want.

Missing some T6 mats (or any crafting mat) or lodestones? farm scraps and buy it from TP.
Want a particular dye or armor/weapon skin? farm scraps and buy it from TP/gemstore.
Want a particular sigil/armor rune? don’t bother trying to craft it, just farm scraps and buy it from TP.
That’s what this game is right now. It’s a terribly boring system imo….

Threads like this one make me laugh. Just because you haven’t seen it, it doesn’t exist or it’s been rigged/nerfed, and you want it fixed (to your liking).

I only have 181% magic find and I get rares all the time from champ bags (esp silverwastes). I have received three or four exotics in the past week and a half to two weeks. And I was running events in Orr this weekend and someone in my party got a Black Lion Chest Key as a drop from a mob.

My thoughts are that you may need to change up your game a little. Change where you farm for your loot. I hadn’t run in Orr since probably the first year of the game, and I forgot how good the loot was (granted the loot/events there have been openly nerfed over the years).

I have no idea of what you are talking OP.

- Rare : If you don’t like getting those, I’ll take them if you want. I can never have enough rare to salvage. I almost need so much ectos.

- Exotic : They drop regularly. Ya from time to time someone don’t get a drop in a week, but overall I usually get them on a regular basis. With PvP, dungeon and Fractal, I usually get between 2 and 10 exo per week.

- Ascended : I got two complete ascended armor from ascended chest, plus a couple of weapons. They drop a lot in PvP and Fractal. It’s very very rare that nobody in a group of 5 don’t drop a weapon/armor ascended chat in a Fractal 50.

Remember that GW2 reward is all about gold that you can use to get whatever you want. That way, you are not limited to a specific content to get the specific item you want. I prefer that way.

I think two or three could definitely be improved on. I personally don’t like that specific mobs don’t have different loot tables. It makes it so you can do anything but can’t really work towards specific goals other then farming gold which you can use to buy things from the TP.

Why should anyone have to “change their play” to mitigate a legitimate loot table problem? That doesn’t even take into account how they intentionally took a lot of the goodies (like dyes and black lion keys) out to favor the gem store.

Drop rate for keys hasn’t changed since launch unless you count the supposed increase they announced recently. While you can’t get dyes from drops, you can get them from laurel merchants more reliably although you’re still better off selling T6 you get from laurels and buying the specific dye directly.

Black lion key is not something you farm. Its something you stumble upon accidently.
same as a precursor.

Its purely an RNG item, its not even an actual reward.

Not only is the chance for a BL key worse than awful, the chance you even get something useful out of the black lion chest is probably even smaller lol.

When you have system that is RNG (black lion chest goodies) WITHIN ANOTHER SYSTEM OF RNG (getting the black lion key drop) , you have something that is UTTERLY and HILARIOUSLY greedy….

What was anet’s motive for the black lion key change? they don’t like farmers. PERIOD.

They want ppl in the gemstore buying the black lion key with real $$, they don’t want ppl farming the key through drops or story completion. That is a fact.

Oh yea anet increased the chances alright.

going from .0005% drop rate to .0010% drop rate is still laughable.

If you think this MMORPG has a good loot system in place where players can farm items they want, you are delusional.

all you do is farm gold at the best rate possible (silverwastes/daily dung speed run/ and chest/champ train) than buy whatever it is you are looking for. You don’t actually go out and have this hope of getting real loot, real drops…

I’ve seen zero and I play quite a bit.

“Playing quite a bit” is meaningless for comparing drop rates. What matters is:
How many foes have you killed that might drop loot? (You can substitute the relevant PvP containers that substitute for such loot.) Magic Find applies here.

If you run dungeons all the time, you aren’t killing many foes; your “income” is predominantly in the form of dungeon tokens and guaraneed coin. If you run champ trains, similarly you aren’t getting a lot of kills — you are killing a lot of champs relative to most people.

If, as others have mentioned, you are farming kills (in Orr, Harathi, or similar spots), then you are likely getting enough kills that you might notice a difference in drop rates from one day to another, if you farm for several hours a day.

You needs 1,000s of drops before you can get a reasonable idea of what drops and what isn’t dropping.

And most of us just don’t track that kind of data.

It’s amazing to see how tons of people will come out and defend Anet for anything. Trolls aside, I’ll reiterate my points.

This is a dropless game. What does drop is largely useless to the guy who isn’t leveling toons.

-Most of the exotics are mostly gold bordered junk now too, with rare exception.

-Any fun utility items that used to drop have been all but removed from the game.

-Ascended which would at least be an upgrade for me, all but never drop.

-Blues and greens for salvaging were fun for a while. But getting to 300 MF is a treadmill goal that is all but unattainable for most. I stopped at 100 because it does nothing but make you poor.

Thank you. Finally someone who gets it! I ’m begining to hate posting here. No matter how valid a point you make 10 white knight trolls jump on the post to try and discredit it.

The game is not fun without drops and that is the way it is.

Except people don’t agree. Calling them white knights because they don’t agree with you is unfair. Many of us have played truly dropless MMO’s and this isn’t amongst them.

A lot of it is your own perception. I disagree the yellows and exotics are junk, because they provide a source of material salvage to make what I want, rather than relying on waiting for an exact item to drop.

10 years ago I played an MMo where you camped a boss which had maybe a 5% chance to drop a desired item amongst an array of items which were worth perhpas 1/100th of the junk dropped in this game when you compare economies. And then you had to out damage an opponent to get that chance of a drop anyway.

GW2 system is far superior than most. It still needs tweaks though. Ascended hasn’t hit that sweet spot and named exotics from bosses are just a little too rare for my tastes.

The fact is, opinions differ and many genuinely prefer THIS system. If people don’t agree with you, then accept it or continue to discuss maturely. Or ignore them. But you shouldn’t call ppl trolls etc just for having a differing opinion.

What fun utility drops have been removed besides dyes?

I know there are other methods for attaining some of the following but we are talking about drops here:

bank express, Golems, trading post express, merchant express, tomes of knowledge, All types of dyes and kits, transmutation charges, black lion ticket scraps, tonics, non temporary gathering tools and boosters.

Nothing against you here, but the loot system is designed in order to remove the grind aspect that some players prefer (because some players hate it).

By making the drops evenly distributed based on RNG versus having to grind a single enemy/instance repeatedly for it, you make it possible to obtain the things you want by playing the type of content you enjoy (by getting things all the time, selling them to others who want those things, and then buying the things you want).

If you are used to grinding (or if you like it), the loot system here will be a bit of a system shock to you. If you cannot or will not adjust your expectations to match the non-grind design, then maybe you should try out a few other MMOs to see if you can find one that better suits your playstyle.

Your point is taken, but The nonsense I’ve seen defended on these boards is ridiculous. People defending the bad camera, FPS, and diminishing rewards come to mind. Really?

Disagreeing and trolling are 2 different things. I know the difference. Someone posts the sky is blue and 10 people come out and say it’s red. It’s usually the posters too. While I disagree with what you said, but at least you didn’t try to pee on my leg and tell me its raining. See the difference?
