With the new expansion coming out, everyone is excited for new classes, subclasses, weapon types and abilities amongst others.

Plus it’ll bring back a bunch of players but new and old. I myself am making my a full ascended celestial gear so when I bump my Revanant to max level on release day, he’ll be able to walk around with a full set of ascended gear allowing me to experiment safely with all the abilities it offers.

However… Crafting in Guild Wars 2 is bad. It’s aged. It’s a system from beta. I can’t help but roll my eyes each time I visit the station.

I mean just look at this mess: http://imageshack.com/a/img673/4793/YHpl3g.jpg

Thank God for that search bar.

I know players love crafting, love creating new things with the materials they gather around the world. But hot kitten , this is a confusing turn off for new AND returning players.

Not to mention the system is setup BACKWARDS.
The discovery tab should just be erased in favor of a navigation of selecting item archtypes.

You select the item you wish to build, THEN refine the materials towards them.
Rather than what it is currently, select the materials first, then build towards the item.

That’s just my suggestion for a nice QoL addition for both new and old players.

It REALLY needs a change. For a supposedly non-grindy mmo, crafting is an unabashed grind. There aren’t crafting activities or anything, just popping mat after mat into crafting, getting the lvl up.

What about quests to get a new material or blueprint? Maybe Crafting Mastery that nets you crafting levels and lets you craft unique items?

I groaned at the discovery system two years ago, and I groan at it now. :\

In the intervening time, they managed to make it worse by locking down stat combinations behind recipe sheets, instead of giving players more control over their gear. There isn’t enough parity in recipe and component acquisition, and that really bugs me.

Many alts; handle it!

<3 you for saying this.

Taking a cue from other games, I was thinking of having a sort of crafting daily quest that could come from the player’s chosen Order or one of the crafting masters. I’m thinking the work flow would go something like:

  1. System scans trading post to find item glut and generates daily quest. (ie, too many Venom Sacs or Tiny Fangs determines crafting tier and necessary inscriptions) Or determine by random shuffle. Or use highest tier attained. Could be anything.
  2. Player goes to crafting master to get a soulbound daily item. Call it Order Sheet or something, and in the item description, it has the requested ingredients.
  3. Player uses that item along with the basic recipe (Hilt, Business End, Inscription/Insignia, Order Sheet) to produce a Custom-Order [Weapon/Armor]
  4. Player turns in Custom-Order item to crafting master in exchange for rewards. (Crafting XP direct boost, money, special token thing, something) The Custom-Order created item could even have unique skins for that crafting type.
Many alts; handle it!

Crafting could definitely use a makeover.

It’s been two-and-a-half years and I still haven’t been able to get into it, and I actually like crafting in most games.

People can disagree on what needs fixing, but I don’t think I’m the problem.

Not only does it need a more streamlined crafting system but a revised crafting materials as well.
There are several dated recipes that only exist for material sink which just looks silly now. Look at the Starcake: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dragon%27s_Revelry_Starcake
