The recent announcement regarding guild changes raised a question for me about the way I use my personal guild. Like others, I found it more economic to create my own personal guild to allow access to additional storage space. Yes, it would take lots of time and/or gold to accumulate the influence needed to research the storage upgrade, but on my own (and having taken more than a year off playing) I recently completed the second storage upgrade. So the following portion of the announcement has me worried:

In the case of other upgrades that are moving to the new system relatively unchanged, such as the guild banners and the guild vault, we’ll be grandfathering access to those upgrades for any guild that unlocked them in the current system. If your guild had obtained the necessary research level and prerequisites to have consumables like banners or Vault Transport unlocked under the current system, you will have them unlocked to craft in the new system.

Along with the decision to remove the influence currency and spread it among three new factors, this makes me wonder: will I still be able to gradually accumulate the component(s) necessary to make the third guild storage upgrade? Or should I fork out the gold now before HoT comes out so that my bank stuff gets grandfathered over and I’m not left having to pimp out my personal guild to gain the means to upgrade it?

It’s unclear, Provost, and I doubt if we’ll find out enough information before launch to decide whether it’s more efficient to create a new guild now or then.

It’s not very expensive to buy influence with gold to create a guild with 50 slots or even 250 and it doesn’t take that long (especially if you have a few friends rep the guild while you do daily dungeons or silverwastes together). So, I’d recommend you do it now.

At worst, you gain the benefits of the extra space now and forever after. If you don’t need the space later, you can invite a friend and give the guild to them (which is what I did way back when I needed the guild slots more than the inventory slots).

Just dish out the 40gold for 20000 influence and get that done. With all the trash stuff you are going to get, I bet the extra slots will let you hoard more stuff. Don’t need to wait for HoT….Just doing 1 fractal, 1 Teq, 1 Jormag, a few more World boss, Ascalonian Catacombs p1,2,3, Citadel of Flames p1,p2. And you would have about 10Gold. Not to mention if you are lucky you get a good drop from the chest. So, lets just say you are unlucky, and you get no good drop but all greens and blues, it will take you just 4 days to get the gold to buy that influence needed. Or something like that….

I recommend this route too. I did, I now have a massive personal guild bank. It’s a lot cheaper than buying bank tabs. Sure it can’t take bound items but it can take all the random stuff I want to keep (runes, sigils, consumables etc.).

But you know all that. Anyway, buy the influence, that way you can enjoy doing what you want without worrying about running out of time.

Hey prov the issue with the new system is that its a timegated building. If you dont want to have to wait to build that 3rd bank slot, then go for it now.

What i see as an issue is if there are upgrades that you want, in the future we have no idea how the upgrade tiers will operate for the upgrades that we want.

Remember, if you are able to build something such as a guild banner, the article presumably says that you will have it automatically unlocked.
