Hello all,

I have the core game of GW2 and did not buy HoT “yet”. So my question is will i be able to get new profession, elite specializations if i wont buy HoT expansion? Will i be limited just to current features of the game ?

If yes, wont the core GW2 game will become outdated ? Will it become something like this —-> core GW2 players < HoT GW2 players ?

What will happen if i wont upgrade ?

Thank you waiting for some response

You will need to purchase HoT to access the Elite Specializations, Mastery Lines, new PvE Maps, new Story, etc.

Some features will be available to those who have not purchased, such as the new PvP mode, and new WvW map, among others.

You won’t have access to Elite Specializations unless you have purchased the expansion. You will, however, get access to Stronghold and the new WvW Borderlands map (and other stuff I will edit if I find a list).

Would be good to look at that list, just because if old players without expansion will be weaker against players with expansion (because of new features) then the game will be broken. You know what i am trying to say, just trying to see how bad my experience will be if ill play without expansion

Would be good to look at that list…

Well, here is what I can decipher from here:

I think everyone will get this regardless of whether you purchase the expansion:

  • Stronghold (But not all of the champions related to Stronghold)
  • The new WvW Desert Borderland
  • (Possibly) Access to roam around the Maguuma landscape (Although I think this might be cut off by a story instance that requires the expansion)
  • Fractal Changes (Some might be blocked behind purchasing)

There are likely others, so someone feel free to correct me.

so basically with new specializations, elites etc. people will overcome those who is just with core game. Game will be playable but not challenging any more…. sad i would prefer smaller price (for current account users) then extra character slot :S

Anet have said their intention with the elite specialisations and the revenant profession is that they will be equal to the current options, not better than them. So players with the expansion will have more options available to them, but it’s not as simple as a tempest is better than an elementalist, a dragon hunter is better than a guardian etc.

There will probably be balance issues at first, and of course they’ll have an advantage in PvP and WvW simply from people not knowing what they can do or recognising the skills. But I think the beta tests are intended to address both those issues.
