I have been looking for who worked on what for the animations in guild wars 2. Because I am applying to schools for Computer Animation and they have questions about “What artist inspire me.”

So I am looking for Animators to reference who inspire me, particularly the Sylvari female animations for idle and running are both animations I bring up a lot in conversation and show people who are curious about what I am doing with my life.

Is there anywhere I can look to see who did animations for what, or anyway I may be able to find out?

Thanks for everything,

-Murphy

Say people like Paul Cezanne and Jean Arp inspire you, if they’re like 100% of other colleges and universities.

Kristen Perry did the pre-release redesign of the sylvari. I’m not sure if she did all the animation rigging. But she was the Character Art Lead at the time and is credited as the one responsible for the “appearance of the sylvari”. So I would assume she at least worked with the riggers to guide them on animation articulations/movements, provided mock-up sketches for the animations, etc.

You could watch all the old Guild Chat, and their previous incarnation, Points of Interest, videos; lots of different Developer disciplines are featured.

This Episode (among others) deals with Animation : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqbQgVOMEVw

Good luck.

I’d also suggest that crediting “the Guild Wars 2 development and design team” is a good way to do this – it’s reasonable to say that the team, working together, rather than an individual artist from it, inspired you.

(Generally. I’m making the assumption that the people reviewing this are using good judgment to read what you say and kitten it from a sensible, neutral-ish point of view. If they have a checklist of names and you have to list the correct ones, all bets are off.

Agreed.

The OP is admiring the work that the team produced using the tools available to this game, not just the original design or mock-ups from a single person.

I agree. Plus we work so collaboratively that it is unusual for someone to be the only person with “hands on” in a specific element of the game. While credit where credit is due is very nice, I like the idea of the team credits and I think the members of the teams themselves would agree.
