Unlucky since launch, RNG isn’t random
PugLife SoloQ
I’ve played Guild Wars 2 since beta and my account is one of the statistical outliers on the luck spectrum. I’d ask the devs if they have any plans on revamping or at the very least rebalancing their RNG mechanic to reverse the fortunes of the statistical outliers in the near future.
If your account has been overly lucky since launch, you should get my luck from here on in.
Thoughts?
Please don’t ask to switch luck with me, it’s bad enough as it is sometimes. I make it by perseverance and patience.
I’d like it if RNG for “big draw items” was mitigated in HoT so it was possible to either earn through RNG or buy through farming something up (not Gold) to get a guaranteed buy chance.
This entire game is RNG.

Well I’d roll the dice and take your luck as it couldn’t be worse than mine.
This entire game is RNG.
True. But it is not an even playing field.

Yes, it could be. What’s worse, it sometimes has a sense of humor.

Mine does as well. My first and only precursor came last month and it was Rage. You can’t make this kitten up.
I found out last night that one of my guildies has hit 7 precursors dropped for her account….I had known about 4 but 7?

My guild know my anti-luck well and just today were telling me what methods they’ve used to get their precursors. I’ve done it all and I’m just kittened by this games bugged RNG.
I’ve been fortunate enough to have gotten 2 (Zap and Leaf of Kudzu) but I’ve been so indifferent to the remaining legendaries that precursors are more a source of income than something I want
The problem is that rng is calculated the same eveybody (influenced by mf on occasions).
So there is no special rng factor tied to your account, hence, they wont be able to switch it with somebody elses.
No, you fool! You should have claimed you have special voodoo RNGeesus connections where you can switch your luck for his and it’ll only cost 100 Gold.

I dont need 100 gold.

As they’ve never stated which RNG service they use (if at all) that statement cannot be proven.

Wow. Forums went total apekitten. Sent my post into a different thread. Or I’m just more tired than I think.

They stated on several occasions that there is no such thing as a factor to make some accounts lucky and some not.
You also havent proven that you are in fact an outlier because you dont have any sufficient data to back it up.

There isn’t such thing is some accounts getting stuck lucky. Yes there’s an RNG, yes it’s random and there are streaks and outliers and an even aggregate distribution.
Can you confirm whether it is an RNG that uses some sort of value from the user’s account or whether it is purely random/session based? I have a friend who swears that smack-talking an anet dev during a beta weekend pvp match doomed his account to poor rng for life.
Absolutely it does not use anything to do with a user.

2. My forges are all in the system 2.5 years worth

No. kittening. Duh. Outliers will ALWAYS exist in an RNG system. The problem crops up when players like you seem hellbent on attaching a “unlucky account” argument to being an outlier on the outhouse end. Your account, your name, your date of birth, or any other piece of data remotely pertinent to you is absolutely irrelevant to your RNG. Your luck is currently just that much dolyak kitten. It’s like getting bad hands over and over and over in poker. Even if the deck is randomly shuffled, it’s possible to get screwed over every time. Guess what? You luck can swing the other way just as quickly.

2. My forges are all in the system 2.5 years worth
JS has stated repeatedly that the RNG system does not use any input formed by any data points of a user’s account as I mentioned above. This is coming from a guy who basically runs the kitten system. You saying he’s lying? Frankly I’d sooner believe him than some random person in the game who’s dissatisfied with their results.
Second, what does that matter? For all we know, you could have had only 100 mystic forge attempts, with 99 of them being done with random rares you looted and crafted. So what if it’s spread over 2.5 years? Additionally, when you’re talking about the mystic forge, the only way you can prove you’re an outlier is verified data that you’ve done tens of thousands of forges and never gotten an exotic back (if using rares), or done hundreds of forges and gotten dozens of precursors.
My account’s barely a year old, I’ve gotten, and then sold, 3 different precursors out of the forge. Frankly I dont know how many attempts I’ve done because I’ve never actively spent money going FOR the precursor. I throw money at the forge just to see what I get back out of it. Does that mean my account’s an outlier? Not really.
Frankly I just think you’re complaining because of your own bad luck and want some justification to berate Anet even after you’ve been told, and shown proof, multiple times that your “bad” luck is in fact the result of a functioning RNG system.

A one year old account with 3 precursors and you dare speak to me about a fair system…
Yes, you’re an outlier I’ve forged more gold away than you’ve made.
No proof has ever been given, But you’re new here so welcome to Tyria

Everyone thinks that. Chances are, you’re not.
I am.
Because you have compiled full data of your own drops, including exactly where you got all of them, and have compared it to a large amount of other players’? Or just because you say so?
As I said, everyone thinks they’re a statistical outlier. Either they’ve been extremely lucky, in which case they think they’re an outlier on the ‘top’ side of the spectrum. Or they haven’t been quite as lucky as the people on the extreme ‘top’ side of the spectrum, in which case they think they must actually on the extreme ‘bottom’ side of the spectrum.

I absolutely know the maximum value of my best drop. Don’t You?
I think it would kitten people off less if there was a measure set in place that prevented someone from obtaining a precursor (and other very expensive items) more than once in a 6 month period. Maybe then precursors (and other very expensive items) will drop for someone else.
I don’t know.

Being snarky I see. I suppose the RNG God’s favor your account. Who gives a kitten if anyone else gets anything right? I’ve actively forged since launch my best drop ever came last month it was Rage. I never kept spreadsheets on forges since I had no idea in 2012 that I’d still be trying to get a precursor in 2015. If I’d known the RNG was this bad in beta I’d have rethought my collectors edition at the very least.
I’ve said it before and I will continue to, if your experiences in game are lucky you will see nothing wrong with the RNG, there are plenty who aren’t lucky and it isn’t fun.
I’ve been playing since launch. The best drop I’ve ever gotten is Final Rest off of Shadow Behemoth. I stop bothering pretty much.
I found out last night that one of my guildies has hit 7 precursors dropped for her account….I had known about 4 but 7?
I think when a guildie says that he have dropped 7 precursors, it usually means 1 or 2
Guess everyone can treat this thread as a troll thread. OP’s clearly been giving proof, and their sources, and chooses to ignore them to wallow in their own misery.

It is. The problem is, “it is” once everyone plays for 1000 years; but for a couple thousand hours, there will be outliers.

No proof was ever given. “Trust but verify”
This entire game is RNG.
True. But it is not an even playing field.
For the umpteenth time….PROVE your unfounded belief in some hidden account based luck property or quite attempting to have serious conversations about changing something that is a figment of your imagination.
So go verify and then rant at the sky from you soapbox (do you need a trenchcoat to fully play the role?).

So you already got a precursor and your overall amount of forges is an estimation.
Looks like solid proof on your end.
And you have a lucky account by your own admission
Where did I admit to have a lucky account?

This is my guild leader lol. The highest value drop he ever got (until a week ago) was a 5g shoulderpeice. He was known in our guild for having the worst luck possible. But a week ago he got dusk to drop :P eventually you will get something. To add on he farmed Eye of Zhaitan on 10 characters a day since collections came out and has never gotten the pendant.
Also in my guild are 2 people that log in and get handed gold, wether that be a monthly precursor or many high-value drops.
