Race Makeover Kit
Just saying, there needs to be a race makeover kit. I joined the game human because that’s just what I was used to, but now I’m favoring over races. I’m sure that I and many others would buy that if it came up on the Gem Store.
I agree that it would be awesome to be able to change races, but the issue with it is how it would change up the personal story. How would the game handle it? Would it reset your progress? Attempt to replicate it with similar choices for your character’s motivations?
It’s difficult to say, but I think it would be almost impossible to implement with the personal story system, as awesome as it would be.
Really don’t see it happening. It would be nice, but its unlikely.

We’re already at a point where ArenaNet is putting more time on improving human armor, skins, hair, etc. They’ve admitted as much. So imagine players that know it and just want to be on the only race ArenaNet cares to create good armor, styles on? I know it wouldn’t be everyone, that many would switch to races other than human, I’m just worried that too many would turn to the majority.

Personal story is a non issue, really. Just reset the progress, as it’s a different race.
If priced around 500 gems for a race change, they’d easily make more money off of that than on people rerolling and buying an extra character slot. You only buy a character slot once per character, but you can change your race multiple times for a single toon, making more $$$.
And really I think it would go a long way to alleviate the overpopulation of humans. I myself have more humans than I want and would love to diversify. I just deleted my level 80 warrior for an asuran a couple weeks ago. I can’t do that on my main (human guardian) because of map completion, but I would buy a race kit to change it. I’d also change my ranger’s race too because I’m certainly not going to level another one.

If they reset the personal story you’re getting a bunch of keys, transmutation stones, boosters and skins for free. 500 gems wouldn’t cover it.
just remove the whole personal history quest whenever someone uses this at lvl 80.

As far as keys go you only get… what… 3? None of it is free either, you would still have to progress through the Personal story all over again – just like you would if you rerolled. If they made the cost of a kit like this to be greater than the cost of a character slot, I don’t see where the problem would be.
Except, as I previously posted, too many people turning human because its the most pampered race of them all.
I don’t really see that happening, though I would like to see you able to reset your personal story. I have an asura of the College of Dynamics, but now I’d rather her be of the College of Synergetics. She’s using a hair-kit exclusive style, so I don’t wanna have to use another one, let alone level her up again.
I don’t see how a personal story reset can’t be implemented though. I mean, it’s all instanced, so it would have any impact on other players. Just like a name-change contract, I think there should be a personal story change option (though not gem store, preferably).
I really want a race makeover, actually I’m running a Sylvari guardian but the skins for this race make him so uggly, have armorsmith and weaponsmith on 500, all the slots for bags and want to change it in to a Norn because the cultural t3 is perrrrfect for a heavy!! I don’t care if I lose my progres of the PS or if I need to finish it before change the race but I NEED CHANGE!! No one in Anet say anything of this :c

As somewhat highlighted in the post above, cultural armor is another issue. In my opinion, though, you’ll just have to take the hit – that is, if you’re a human and unlock T3, then decide to go Asura…sorry bub, your choice. Keep the human skins unlocked but that’s it.
A friendlier alternative would be the choice to “transfer” the skins to another race (i.e. Human T3 legs -> Asura T3 legs), but that would require more effort. I really doubt anyone wanting a race change would let the lack of this option stop them.

Why is everyone so against making a new character? It’s not like it takes long to level up, and gear is account bound now so just move it over to the new character. You can level a new char to 80 far faster than it will take Anet to put in a change like this. Plus it won’t cost you money. Plus you get to keep your original character in case you have buyer’s remorse.

Keep it mind that:
1) It was not a dev response. Eva is CC. She has nothing to do with the development/features of the game, nor do I think she knows everything about what’s going to be added and what not. She might just have been a little more absolute than she meant to.
2: There is another response from a dev , which I sadly cannot find atm, as it was posted in one of the 300 threads about this topic. In that response he said that it wasn’t something they’re planning to work on now or the foreseeable future. It wasn’t however, an absolute no.
3: Anet also stated they would never add higher gear levels and that precursor crafting would be implemented. Now we have ascended gear and no precursor crafting. So always take their statements with a grain of salt.
4: No company will feel any obligation (nor should they) to be bound by statements made almost two years ago, if moving away from the statement turns out to be a profitable thing to do

I do understand all of the arguments against allowing a race change — they are valid arguments. Not just personal story, but also racial armor could be affected. I did come up with one way around all of it, and posted the suggestions here I would love to see them come up with something that would make race changes possible even with all of the associated problems.

There are so many level up items and they are easy to get, also now ascended gear is acc bound and exotics are cheap anyway, so there is pretty much no excuses to not just make a new toon and level to 80.
I think the only thing that may be a bit of issue is to get some WPs and the crafting levels, besides that everything is really cheap/easy.

For the record ArenaNet has changed their mind about far more important issues in the past, this one would be no different in the future – IF it became a source of profit for them.
I would be happy with a level 80 bump item like those level 20 birthday gift scrolls.
- If you delete a level 80 character you get one level 80 scroll that can be redeemed on a similar class.
I acknowledge that I made a mistake when I chose my race and therefore I am willing to go through all the content again. As long as I get to do it as a level 80. Because all Im changing is my race and having to go from 1-80 as a warrior after going from 1-80 as a warrior is repetative even by gw2 standards.
