Race and Name Changes in the future?
Name, yes probably.
Race, no never.

Name Changes yes.
Race Change no as your choice in race is tied to your kitten Personal Story.
I’d bet no one knows for sure but the devs.
Yet it would be silly from a story point of view that after you did the human storyline for instance you’d swap into the charr race.
It does add something from a playability point of view, but i don’t think it would happen.
One could argue that the only real reason to change races would be for the better racial skills ( unless you’re cosmetically obsessed) . And that’s a balance issues right there.

And the devs have stated(repeatedly) that
1) Name change contracts are coming.
2) Race changes are not coming.

A) It just applies the equivalent choices you made(as its really only the first parts that truely differ)
B) Allows you to make those choices and completes them very much similar how Mass effect 2 allows you to make decisions as if you played the 1st one
C) It just restarts the story if its not completed and you pick your choices as if you made a new character.

Haha. I have a lvl 80 Charr engineer myself and i always wanted to change to an asura….although i can’t be bother with making a new one for that reason alone.

All of that would require quite some work and at this point in time I wouldn’t even have race changes on my mind if I were at Anet. So if they decided to allow us to change races it wouldn’t be coming for well over a year or so. So just choose wisely before making a toon or buy more slots to make more toons like I did!
Seriously I don’t understand the reasoning of alot of people about race changes. I mean there is actually an item that changes your whole appearance and ever your gender if you wish too, and still NPCs react to you the same and noone questions why you look completely different, so in my eyes it would not matter if a human plays the human story, finishes it and after that goes somewhere to some priory labgeek who wants to try his new potion on me and suddenly I am a charr, and omg, there is a side effect, he can’t change me back, unless ofcourse, I try another potion, which will cost me some gems again. As simple as that, no story changes or anything, just some limitations like: personal story done and not wearing race restriced armor. You may either get the elite skills transfered to the other race or simply loose them, not the best thing, but if you really want to change the race you have to deal with it, and everyone who is level 80 is sitting on a ton of skill points anyways. Same goes with the cultural armor, either you just cant use it or it could be replaced by the other races counterparts.
They have been saying for a long time now no race changes, but in a recent Dev post (cant find it), they say there are no plans “at the moment” for a race change, which gives me possible hope. I for one would gladly pay a hefty fee for one as after putting 1500+ hours into my asura theif and making incinerator there is no way I want to do that over again on another race. For the record I actually kinda like the incinerator on my asura but being so small it is sometimes hard to appreciate my gear without having to zoom all the way in.
A race change is as simple as wiping your personal story.
That is hardly a deterent.
I guess you could have to re-do your personal story all over again….Or a menu opens up where you make all the choices from it…Sounds like a lot of work that way, though.
