20hrs for 5g at sw… What a joke, easily 14-20g an hour at sw if anything anet should nerf the loot with how easy it is to make gold. I’ve been playing since release pretty much and the only thing I complained about was precursors until I had one drop for me after 3 years of playing and another one a few days later.
The old system were a boss can drop 1 of 7-20 dif items and you only need 1 of them only problem is so do 2-5 other people in your raid/group.
Yea you never had to pray for rng or grind at all /sarcasm off
It depends on the game I guess, that’s why we can’t make an accurate comparison between systems.
In Lotro for example bosses dropped specific raid tokens with 100% chance every time. So one boss dropped raid boots, the next raid gloves etc. In a regular group of 12 you would get your boots at most after 12 runs. Sooner if some of them run the raids on their own without you, or longer if you run with pugs. But even with pugs as time progressed and people got their raid boots, your time was getting closer and closer. After each run you made some progress.
In the random roll GW2 system you might never get a drop you want. Not in a million years and there is nothing you can do about it.
Oh but you do gw2 got a token system aswell you run your dungeon get tokens by what ever item you want.
Too bad tokens aren’t used for all the good things… I didn’t see Tequatl or Triple Wurm dropping tokens, I might have to try them again and look harder.
Oh so your saying that lotr open world bosses got a token system I should really check that out.
This is a mini rant, I’ve been playing this game for about 2 years, and I feel as though drops for ANYTHING good is honestly ridiculous, the RNG is too much.
Yet these recipes for things are 250 globs of ecto, 250 of any tier 6 material. I dont understand it, does anyone truly like the way drops work in this game? I highly doubt it.
Dungeons: 1g-3g per path. (Woah one gold awesome :|)
World Bosses: 1g (Plus additional blues and greens, because we all know the RNG will not allow you to get anything better.)
Silverwastes: Champion Bag after Champion bag, that gives you guessed it, MORE blues/greens thats sell for 5s, 20c.I’m sort of getting a little irritated with these drop rates for ANYTHING good.
Why should I have to grind silverwastes for 20hours just to get 5g, that’s ridiculous.

Second: me, and everyone else here probably, thinks that if you don’t like a game you can play at something else.
About drops: they’re fine. You get SO MANY materials by recycling all the blue/greens and the rares not worthy of being sold that you can easily start a trading career and accumulate even more money. There should be a topic in here where a guy put in the screens of what he got from opening 1500 SW bags. Also, money is the thing that you need less in this game. really, you use it to buy recycling kits, repair the armor and travel. You can get all the trinkets from the laurels (daily log in) and guild commendations (guild missions) and a full exotic armor and weapon set from dungeon’s tokens. So what’s the point of crying for the drops? Because you need them to do those super expensive recipes and craft a legendary? You already should be thankful that you can create legendary items from a recipe. Really, what does mean legendary if you can just craft it following some instructions?
Just continue to farm SW and dungeons. The world bosses chain is too full of dead times, pre events and is not so efficient imho. Even without them, you can gather more than several golds/day.
Oh and btw, you should usually make at least 10g/hour in SW. If that’s not enough…

Spending literally 45min doing AC paths 1-3 will net you 5g.
250 ectos is easy. They are abundant, and can be made very easily with world boss farming (guaranteed Rares). This isn’t one you should really have a problem with. It will come in time as you work towards the other requirements.
250 t6 mats, this is almost always the slowdown, that and lodestones. 250 is NOT easy to come by through normal play. Luckily they give you plenty of laurels that can be used for T6 mats, and you can farm gold easily for them so there’s a work around. When you hit 250 of one of the particular mats, just sell any additionals to put towards purchase of the ones you don’t have.
If you aren’t a fan of SW but are serious about making money, then speedrun dungeon paths may be your best bet. Not sure what your play hours available are, but if you happen to have 4-5hrs each day, you can easily knock out 13-15 dungeon paths with a competent group. Personally I don’t have that kind of time to play, but you threw out 20hrs for 5g in SW so I’m imagining you have time on your side.
That’s 25g/day simply doing dungeons, not including drops, which you can of course salvage to sell and/or get ectos. Plus you can use dungeon tokens to get gear to salvage as well. So let’s say 35g/day estimated, running dungeons (or 245g/week if you play 7 days).
On top of that, if you have Ascended crafting abilities, make and sell Bolts of Damask. It’s a guaranteed 3g profit (1.5g-4g profit range depending on Silk and Linen prices to be honest) for spending 7min standing at a crafting station.
Then of course you have the option (if you have a number of alts not doing anything), of parking alts at rich platinum nodes and/or JP chests for easy cash (15-20s per day per character on the nodes for 10secs of work a piece).
Finally you have the TP and the buying low/selling high system. If you put the time and effort into getting organized, setting up spreadsheets, and researching items, you will find this is by far the best way to make money. It’s also very satisfying when it finally clicks and you have a good system. You literally never have to worry about money again. And at that point, all of the extra money you get doing dungeons or fractals or anything for fun is simply extra money.

The rant behind your rant is about Legendaries. So my short answer is “No – no one actually ‘likes’ the way drops work in this game”.
Legendaries are lame anyway – it’s FAR more strategic (and easier AND cheaper) to craft multiple Ascended greatswords/whatever for different purposes with different Sigils and do a quick swap than it is to change the stats from the drop down on the Legendary itself (and with the Legendary, you are locked into the same Sigils).
Anet keeps the economy the way it is because they make real world money through it.
Just curious, is the most expensive BIS gear always “lame” to you? I agree that it’s far more economical to get multiple ascended weapons, but it’s just not the same as having a single legendary. They are after all, called “Legendary” for a reason. How else would you make legendary’s “feel” better in terms of utility? In terms of “looks” – since Anet didn’t want to create a gear treadmill (which is a great choice btw) – They created legendaries to be the fanciest of fancies. You can’t blame people for wanting to get them.

Well good for him/her – the reason there are “more” people with legendaries is because they all think it’s better looking anyway, otherwise most people would make “Foefire’s Essence” instead

Killing a big boss and something awesome dropping isn’t rocket science. Most games do this now, but with account bound gear so it doesn’t ruin the economy. I think HoT will follow this trend. Not everyone wants to salvage trash for weeks or months on end to finally craft a great item. Mix some gauranteed shinies into the fold.
I’m just saying though.

The biggest issue I have with threads that talk about “rewarding” content is that I’m not exactly sure what “rewarding” is supposed to be in this game to begin with.
The entire point of how both Guild Wars games were designed is that it wasn’t about grinding for “best-in-slot” or the treadmill of ever increasing stats. While Guild Wars 2 did back off that ideal a little bit with Ascended gear (and Guild Wars 1 focused on vertical progression through a handful of skills by the end of its run)… it’s still fairly on point in that regard. The “reward” isn’t tied to the stats on the item.
Which leads to the problem with “rewards” being the appearance tied to the gear, which is a highly subjective thing by nature, simply because one item that you think is “cool” or “neat” someone else would call “ugly” or “garbage.” If you didn’t like any of the looks on the mastery rewards, would the game still not be rewarding?
I guess I’ll worry about how “rewarding” the game is when we get anything remotely close to a consensus of what “rewarding” should be at all.

about your Gaining Wealth part of it. i have to ask you do under stand your playing a video game. with video game money. that has not got a thing to do with the real world right????? honestly there is not much good gaming Gaining Wealth can do for you . other then the fact maybe you can buy some overly priced dyes . or all the mini,s and maybe all the runes for your new armor set . other wise i got to say this so called Gaining Wealth is honestly not worth much at all. just saying my honest thoughts here.

I’m sorry but IMO everything is slanted to be stingy to encourage people to buy gems to convert to gold…Stingiest game I’ve ever played and I’ve played alot of MMO’s over the years. Even junk rarely drops….. much-less anything useful….

I have a different take. The game throws so much stuff at one that 99.9% of drops are perceived as not rewarding. Exotics? Selling for under 10G, which if reports can be believed is gettable by an hour or so in SW.
Asc. is Account bound, so there’s no way to get it but drops, laurels, FotM rewards and crafting. Some of that is RNG and the rest is incremental. Other than perhaps FotM, the drop rates on Asc. weapons/armor is abysmal. This means that crafting is the most reliable means of attainment, with the side benefit that the mats to make them are selling for decent amounts on the TP.
And I’m much more likely to accumulate gold to exchange for gems than vice versa.
I’m just saying though.

Its a very big beautiful game world, with only the silver waste being the place to make an in-game profit…boring boring boring day in and day out same ol same ol……

There were problems with that system too: That specific token system did not carry over to later raids.
If you joined a raiding guild but only had certain hours, you get no drops. None. They gave them all to the people who could live there. That’s IF you were lucky to get in at all, and god forbid you’re learning.
So, you pug. You never get the drop you need. You need light armor and it’s all heavy heavy heavy, and the moment a light armor drops, some medium armor weirdo rolls on it because it looks pretty.
Say you, against all odds, get twelve people who actually want to run it. Great! Half of them get what they need and want to run something else now. Back to the pugs!
And this ONLY counts if you are running the top-tier end game stuff that people spam endlessly. You want old content? Too bad, nobody will even look in their direction. Got a deed to go for? Haaaa.
I think I spent ages in a raid because I wanted a fireplace. Not only does it drop once in a never, but twelve people will fight for it whether they need it or not.
Oh: And you HAD to run dungeons that you HAD to pay for access to. There was no open world content.
And guess what? Even Lotro agreed that was idiotic and switched to individual rolling for items, even insured you’d get items your own character can use, even gave out class-specific items, and was trying to do more with the open world before I wandered off.
Not saying that GW2 should detect your class and only give you class-specific things, though. Nobody would farm on anything but a light armor class then for silk. But the system is good as is. Nobody frowns at doing AC because it’s in a level 30 zone, or scoffs at doing teq because he isn’t level 80. And you can get decent stuff across all types and levels of content that are at least your own level. And that’s pretty good, to be honest.

Turbine was known for some very idiotic changes, they had an excellent system for their first raids but I stopped playing the game before they added more of those so I guess I missed that change. But you can’t say there was a problem with the system if they didn’t use it on other raids, the system itself was fine, it allowed organized groups to get their items without fighting with RNG. I guess that’s why they changed it… game companies love RNG-based loot lol
