Mujen, I’m not trying to be mean but I feel like your toon kinda looks generic and I’m not a big fan of how you colored your armor so I’m giving you a 4/10 sorry
Here’s my character Mockingbird… She’s a mesmer
Mujen, i think you look awesome but i would take of the helmet make him a bit more skinner and you have a 10 of 10 mujen if you do that
5 out of 10 really, i dont really think your orange looks mesmeriiish. but nice try though.
( this is a prototype of him not done yet)
PIX
EDIT: Dammit, posted before I did. XD
8/10, creative use of the eyepatch with other stuff, though I can’t see the colors to judge. Too many people just use a full set of whatever; I like that you’ve mixed things. I wish the lighting was better.
A few of my characters. Also my warrior twice, because /ponder. Ele now actually has some sweet purple daggers and a lightning back to match his setup, but you wouldn’t be able to see them well in that shot anyway.
(edited by Sil.4560)
On a side note – Leo Paul, i would have rated your mockingbird way higher :-) Check mesmer I posted and you will know why :-) I think I know what you were trying to accomplish and you did it well.
Warrior – 8,5/10. I think that female heavy armor is another tough nut to shell – most armors make human female look really frail or plainly stupid. You decided to use Vigil armor which turns out to be an excellent choice and dye choice works really well. I just really don’t like this hairstyle, looks way to tousled to me, hence minus 1 point. And another -0.5 since i think that twilight would be better choice than sunrise.
Ele – 9/10. Very interesting screenshot… I regret that I can’t see your char any better. Or maybe it works in his favor? Looks very mysterious… It is sylvari, isnt it?
Necro? – 7-10 funny, I use same mask on mine, same horns and my tail seems to be identical… yes, I have female charr necro which looks identical to yours… i’m not entirely convinced by your clothing, but again – can’t see that much on your picture.
I’ll be consistent so – another of my wife’s characters – this time it would be necro. very good mix’n’match and something that i haven’t seen anywhere else.
Enjoy!

Another side comment – tastegw, that is probably most expensive set I’ve seen so far. It requires 3 gem store purchases and T-3 chest piece… And for the love of god, take that ugly, non-matching pauldron off and your set would be perfect

Thanks.. I’ve checked your mesmer and wow, I’ve got to say the way you colored her and explained it is very very smart.
7/10 for the flower type of look. Always thought that was more of a Sylvari thing =P. Great color mix however.
nice, 8/10 there fella
What’s the name of that armor?
T3 Chest + ?

magitech boots / skirt (800 gems in a gemstore)
krytan gloves/pauldrons (500 gems in a gemstore)
mask of the crown (400 gems in a gemstore)
You welcome

Solid 8/10, all three pics mixed into score. That azure/blue color doesn’t sit well with me, but its only my personal preference, so i shaved off 0.5 from score

Thanks big! when I saw the 4/10 before I was thinking that guy was crazy.

I normally really dislike heavily black dyed armor cause it shows very little detail, but I think the amount of gold supplementing it make the armor and the sword a very fitting match & really awesome. However, I’m taking off points for the war horn and the helmet, hehe. That blue/teal shade on the plume isn’t working for me.
6.5/10
(edited by Serelisk.6573)
I can do this. I will start with my male ranger.
Person above me. Love the facial hair/skin tone. Don’t care for the armor. But then again light armor for males is awful in this game.
6/10
edit: added one where you can see more of armor
(edited by Sean.8274)
7/10 It is a bit dark but it does look quite nice i like the shoulder/chest combo
Anyway i know alot of people already have it but i do love it, it’s just a perfect set for engineers.
(edited by Grebo.8573)
Tip, dont use whiteish or blackish colours on the glow atm, makes it look turned off, if you gave it a colour like red/blue/purple/green and such it would be nicer.
8/10, because I like this armor (and I have it on my thief). The only part I don’t like are the lgihts, orange on the arm, white on the chest and red on the back doesn’t seem to match in my opinion.
Here is my thief in PvP gear:

. It’s not that I really like the look of the character you posted – because I don’t, but I have to admit that it matches engineer perfectly, and color choices are good – especially metal parts. And having a jetpack is an excellent idea, it really gives your toon “techno” feel.
Point taken for facial choice (too young and too “smooth”) but thats the bane of human male models in general in GW 2 and I shaved off half point for my personal dislike of overwhelming presence of trenchcoats in general.
Another of my wife’s norn females – This time it is guardian.

If I were you I would have simply not show it at all or I would go for simple and elegant T2 cultural shoulders. That skull seems to be out of completely diffrent story. Lets have it like that – the whole outfit seems “plausible”. Skull is exception – its “overdone”. It creates a feeling of incoherency. Thats why I wouldn’t use that.
Just my opinion

8/10! Its very unique, something i really like, it shows creativity and that you don’t go with the normal black look! Nice!
This is my necro… I don’t like the colours, since it very mainstream.. But im still working on it.

I don’t know, I like it, good use of the wraith mask and such and I don’t see those colors together all that often tbh.
8/10
And because I never liked simple screen shots due to being difficult to get good ones on this character
(Edit: Also anyone have any suggestions for a free recording program? Not a fan of the bandicam website at the top)

I will grade this with a 5 being an average looking character.
I would give your norn a good 7 out of ten. You have a nice blue style going that shows you put some thought into them as well as a nice location to show them off.
My norn Guardian, Radgast The Brown.
7/10
I like the strong norn guardian vibe I got form the color scheme and weapons.
Personally, I’ve always liked it when a guardian can make a color scheme that isn’t blue and white work out well! I feel like the armor pieces and dye you chose really give off the feelt hat you wanted with your guardian really well!
Anyway, here’s my ele who is supposed to be the ancestor of my Night Fall elementalist. She was a Krytan whose family ran a trade business dealing with Vabbian goods. Anyway, to make a long story short, my ele marries a Sunspear, and when her future generations left Elona due to Joko, they took with them their teaching of the Sunspear ways.
My ele is a worshiper of Kormir (sorry guys, but I went there), and with her background, I decided to go with a Sunspear inspired look. How did I do??
Edit: Sorry, I don’t know why that first image turned out that way…

You can use xSplit in conjunction to your twitch channel to stream your video directly to your computer and save it as a video file rather than streaming it live. I’d suggest buying DXtory so that xSplit doesn’t hog your GPU memory though.
TriggerSad – 9,5/10. I really like the tan, haircut of your model and phoenix top with feathered (sic!) bottom works surprisingly well. So does mix of white and gold. It would be a perfect ten (your character is really inspiring and it passes my subjective test – “would I like to have this character myself?”
But the shoes… If I were you I would have relace them with something else…They are simply too “heavy” for the “light” impresion of the rest.
Another of my wife’s ones – elementalist.
I would rate you 5/10. I just don’t like the colors together that much (teal, red), the muscles don’t really fit an ele and I’m not a fan of this haircut. A darker tan would fit much better and some touch ups on the eyes and nose wouldn’t hurt.
Anyway not that well executed T3. Since I see a lot of these around it takes some effort to impress me.
My lvl 60 ranger:
(edited by Soulmyr.8094)
8/10 i like your color setup and hair (?)
Heres my thief again, but this time not in stealth.
I like the old school rogue look you’ve got there, but the wings kinda ruin it. 5/10.
And here’s my engineer.
I like the old school rogue look you’ve got there, but the wings kinda ruin it. 5/10.
And here’s my engineer.
Wow, I really like it. Probably the 2nd best engineer I’ve seen!
Tuomir – I wish I could see more of your character to make up my mind but in general I like what I saw. White “hair” contrast nicely with dark armor which is some sort of combo of cultural armor mainly I guess.
The only downside imo is facial model choice and colour, but again, it’s just my personal preference.
Well deserved 8/10
So I’ll start with mine – This is my ranger. Yes, I know that she is some sort of twin of my wife’s one, but we were doing these characters separately. It’s just that our vision of the characters is so similar
Anyways – here I was aiming at some sort of pirate/rogue “ish” a’la Isabela from Dragon’s Age 2, but with the ginger hair – I created 3 norn female characters at launch (their “sporty” and “muscular” look fits ranger and thief way better than human females imo) and I wanted them to be white, black and ginger haired.
I wanted her to look tough, angry an dangerous as well but still keeping beauty – hope you can see all of that :-)
Dang, she looks like a serious bounty hunter, I love that! 10/10.
(edited by Justdeifyme.9387)
Dang, she looks like a serious bounty hunter, I love that! 10/10.
I’m going to give you an 8 out of 10..
I don’t love the helmet. Makes me think of the old Roman soldier look, which just doesn’t go with the rest of the ensamble.
I do like the Brahams top pairing with those pants, but the obvious difference in the red stands out. Unfortunately this is simply due to the material different in the top and pants.
Overall though, its pretty good.
Here’s my thief. As you can tell, I tend to like earth tones, haha. Makes sense though doesn’t it? As a theif, you wouldn’t really think that you’d want to ‘stand out.’ You’d want to be another nameless, indistinct face in the crowd.
It really doesn’t stand out but if you see it from that angle, it gets awesome somehow ^^ 9/10!
My turn now: Myself in 40 years when I mastered arcane arts Nah, just my mainchar, a Norn-Elementalist
7/10 because i can really see how your armor looks in that screnshot. To much motion bloor and the character isn’t standing right because of the attack, but the screenshot is cool and so is the colour! we need more charr and norn light armor uses!
I don’t see many old characters. Yours looks great though. Whoever hes about to beat must of really kitten ed him off. Hes reaching all the way back to Hoelbrak for that swing :p.
9/10 because of the old character and that incoming beat-down that’s about to happen in the pic.
Here is my biker Engineer. If the Charr ever lend their vehicles out to the other races she will be the first to get the 3 wheeler.
Since it seems that you posted more or less simultaneously, I’ll rate you both
Shadowmaster – 7/10 You’ve got incinerator. You’ve got another shiny which I’m not entirely sure what it is. Moreover, You’ve got armor that I don’t think I recognize (not that easy thing on asuras). And I’m also not sure what kind of look were you aiming for – Asura on the picture seems to be nice, smiley decent chap, his robes are kinda cartoonish – vampire scary (so are the colors) and your weaponry is shining. It is some interesting mix but I don’t see any clear direction here. It might be just screenshot though.
Scourge – 6,5/10 what can I say… Your norn is… big. And she seems to be ostentatiously proud of it. She is almost shouting – See me? I’ve got curves. A lot of it. And I’m not ashamed to wear corset. And it is white so you all may see me better. And I also dyed my hair white to drag our attention even more. Thanks to your description I know where were you going. It isn’t my aesthetics but I got your idea. But i would have tone a bit colors down (unless you really wanted to play it on the edge) and definately I would have changed pistols.
As for me – I will continue with another female norn of mine. this time it’s a thief.
When I created her, I had in mind really fit, agile and dexterous woman. And I wanted her to be “ninja” type. You know – she jumps, she climbs, she does acrobatics… So no trenchcoats, nothing standing out – her outfit must be her second skin – that’s why so called “named set” choice. It is dyed yellow and black – It was “wasp” inspired, cause that’s her fight style – shes easy to squash but if she hits. she is deadly.
As i said before – I created 3 norns at headstart, out of ginger, blond and black I have chosen black hair for her.
And i wanted her to be pretty at same time – so she has long hair, but tied in a pony tail.
And I know that she might have gotten excellent tattoos (see my wife’s thief) but I wanted to keep her face plain… I don’t know, I may go for this tattoos at some stage. I wish i could have better selection over body and face tattoos independently…
So there she is, hope you like her.
I wish you wouldn’t use full duelist gear and use some parts from other sets, I suggest you to change the boots, gloves and even pants. It would make it a bit less generic. I like the daggers but could maybe use a less flashy(?) bow to fit the “ninja” thief. I would rate less but you deserve 7/10 for the nice screenshots.
Here is my new warrior, I wanted her to look like she can take some beating so I picked this heavy looking armor and krytan weapons because I adore their look and the little ornaments.
I really like her helm, gauntlets and shield. The other parts feel a little too generic for me. Too bad I can’t see her feet.
Anyway, a nice looking warrior! 7/10
Here is my turn.
The first one is my main, the guardian, with a mix of karma/kodan/inquest/cultural armor, I’m pretty proud of his look.
Then there is my necro, I like its evil face and the overall armor look.
I really like the armorset and the shield, but the Axe is just too generic for my tastes, even if it does fit the rest of the style. There’re a lot of other axes that would fit your gear, and not look like a farmers tool, like Faithful.
8/10.
Here’s my warrior, I don’t see a lot of people acctualy using the helmet from the zephyr sanctum, but I feel I managed to incorporate it rather well!
Soulmyr – I see that you are very interested in character looks and you always back up your judgment with a reason – which is greatly appreciated. Although I may say one thing – our aesthetics and approach to realism differs. A lot. In a game where you can shoot fireballs out of your hands and summon wraiths to fight at your side I find screaming for “realism” in its pure form is at least silly. Having said that – I like some coherency and idea for any character I create. But I wont elaborate that, at least not now.
About your comments – what exact changes do you suggest? The only thing that comes to my mind is order of whispers bottom – with tight pants and boots with stilettos – but they create “heavier” look, which i don’t like. You see, named set has perfect sandals, with shurikens, which i find perfect for the ninja style. I wouldn’t like to sacrifice this lovely laced sides of the “named” pants for something similar but not that cute.
I really appreciate creative mix’n’match (check my wifes necro or guardian) but I am reluctant to create a mix just for the sake of it.
But I agree with you about the bow. And I think I’ll replace it.
Thanks for your feedback nevertheless. And I would love to keep this conversation
P.S. I may defend some reasons behind my wife’s ele as well if u wish
8.7/10 I really like the armor blend, especially the mask!
I have no character I feel like showing so ignore this so far as the rating system goes, but I just wanted to say I think this guys character is the very first human male I have actually liked, a lot. He looks like a proper ol’ soldier, and stands out against all the sissified pretty boy Orlando Bloom look-a-likes, who even in full armor still don’t look like they belong on a battlefield.
And I don’t know how anybody could say this character looks generic, I haven’t seen anybody reach for this aesthetic style. I’d have given this a 9.5/10 were I the next poster.
(edited by Conncept.7638)
@Fringilla Vigo- Don’t worry, I don’t scream for realism at all even though my warrior suggests otherwise but I specifically went for that look with her until she gets to 80. My main is an ele so I’m more than fine with shooting things out of my hand etc.
Anyway hope you understand my opinion is subjective and the next person could rate you 10/10. That’s how this thread works!
I told you what I would do (maybe I worded it badly) but since you are satisfied with your current look you should by all means keep it the way it is.
P.S. I’m sure your wife could do that herself
(edited by Soulmyr.8094)
Soulmyr – Actually, this “shout for realism” was more inspired by completely different discussion that takes place on “suggestion” forum and, to the degree, discussion that we used to have within our guild. I falsely assumed that you may be in this “realism” camp judging by the toons that you have showed. And I apologize for that.
And yes, I understand that the whole thread is rather subjective than objective by its nature
As for your suggestions – I’m just still curious (in a positive way) what would you replace it with. Personally, I use http://argos-soft.net/GW2ArmorGallery/index.php?sex=1&weight=2&color=10&race=3 as a point of reference. (they don’t have new gem store armors available, I use dulfy for that).
And I’m more or less pleased with all my characters but there’s always some room for improvement (my wife not once nor twice gave me some excellent ideas)
I’d like it quite a bit, if it wasn’t for the wings. They kinda ruin the flamboyant pretty boy look. 6/10.
And here’s my ranger.
@Fringilla Vigo- I could see vigil and whispers pants work, maybe whispers boots but you are not to fond of them and i can’t really remember any lighter pair available to norn.
Tuomir.1830- 8/10 -I like your colour selection, they really nicely fit your character.
I would give her smaller shoulderpads ,and also those face tattoos aren’t my favorite.
Here are few of my characters (norn ranger, asura necro, human engineer, silvari ele, human mes) :
