I know…

Everyone and their mom is going kicking and screaming “KEEP CAMERA CHANGES”, but in all seriousness guys.

Is anyone genuinely using this for their intended purpose?
Is anyone using horizontal slider and playing like a old third-person shooter?
Is anyone playing floating 100m above their character? How stupid is that?

FOV is better just set to max, because you can see more.
Collision is probably helpful for those tight jumping puzzles or dense forests.
First Person is probably helpful for those in tight jumping puzzles.

Just do us all a favor. Admit the mistake and revert everything.

Add “United Chi” to your friends list or guild!

Nope. Just because this is a problem now it does not justify reverting the changes. The camera features outweigh this little problem by far – instead i suggest ArenaNet to rework how siege can be placed, and which requirements a placed siege’s location has to meet in order to be able to target x location.

And you (or the uploader of the video if its not you) wrote it right into the video’s description: Anyone who wished to have a better FOV would just play windowed mode and squint the window a little to achieve this. Multimonitorsetups have the same effect. So why revert something which everyone should have access to instead of having a closer look at the targetting mechanics of siege weaponry?

Sooo… in your post you just mentioned 3 good things about this one change. You also mentioned a couple things that you weren’t interested in about the new changes that don’t affect you. You then link a video showing how this affects WvW with siege, even though people who played with window mode on could do the same thing.

What mistake does Anet need to apologize for I’m really confused?

I totally disagree OP. I have found the changes to be wonderful across the board. I don’t even mind the bugs(and there have been quite a few). This should have been in from day 1, but I think artist pride put form over function. This is so much better from a player’s perspective. The camera doesn’t feel like a hindrance anymore.

What’s wrong with just using the default settings OP?

I couldn’t go back. There are things to fine tune for sure, but ArenaNet will get it sorted.

My suggestion to the team is to always put player QoL in front of all else. Camera wonkiness is gone. That wonkiness was detrimental to the game for me. Thanks for the changes. They are awesome!

If everyone can now do this, how is it unbalanced? Yes, it changes the dynamic in WvW but they can tweak siege to “fix” what needs to be. It was imbalanced before when some did it and others were unaware they could.

I like to experiment a bit on how I want my guild wars experience to be like so for all intents and purposes, I’d say the camera did it’s job. People have complained for a long long time about how the camera in this game sucked, myself included but at the same time, there are people who have grown accustomed to these changes themselves. This is a way of being fair to both parties. It does still need a bit of fleshing out to do, for sure but a few problems should not merit reversion to what it once was otherwise, things would get kind of stale.

I don’t understand what I was seeing. Basically the camera changes allowed you target things you would not have been able to see before, but obviously could target with siege? I don’t understand why this is a bad thing. In a way you’re playing WvW like an RTS, which is kind of awesome.

The key to fixing this, if it actually needs to be fixed, is not to revert the camera changes, but to alter the targeting ability of siege. Obviously. Possibly also alter where you can place certain types of siege with respect to enemy keeps.

It was asked several times at least a week before the camera changes went live if this would affect AC targeting. Those queries either weren’t spotted or ignored.
This should have been addressed before the patch was implemented.
The camera changes should be disabled until they get the fix in – the best fix would be to revert to old camera views whilst using siege equipment.
I’m sure it wouldn’t kill everyone to use the old camera system for a bit longer until Anet can work out a fix for it.
I have to say though that I am disappointed – the patch was delayed for an additional 6 days for further QA testing. 6 days were obviously not enough.

I like to assume only a small number of players were using this mechanic on a regular basis, but now they’ve opened the floodgates (and made it acceptable). For all the positive changes they’re trying to make to defense, this feels like a step backward.

Because one AC placed outside a tower/keep can now destroy all defensive siege? Siege was very important for lower populated servers to stop the giant zergs from farming them.

How would they fix what is not broken?

What is broken in WvW is that your AC outside a tower can now take out siege that you should not be able to hit.
Easy fix is to have a fixed FoV when manning siege, and it does not affect any other game mode or camera changes.

They just need to add numbers to the camera slider. I’m not touching the vertical and horizontal position, personally. It’s fine where it is.

FOV is absolutely not best set to max and I do look at my character from far away in PvP but use First Person View in PvE.

If you don’t like the changes to the camera then the fix for you is easy… just set your options so that it works the way that it used to.

But to revert the changes would leave the rest of us unable to set the camera the ways that WE want it. And then it would be broken.

Set yours the way you like and leave ours to us.

This. The changes to the camera have been beneficial in many different areas, but detrimental in this one specific instance. Rolling back the changes as OP suggests would fix the one problem while being a detriment to all these other areas. You don’t cut off the leg because a toe is infected, you address the toe itself.

It was already possible to easily shoot over walls by going in windowed and dragging the screen in a certain way.

People already did that. Now its just alot easier, and more balanced, because anyone can do it.

And its still just as stupid.

The firing and targeting mechanics of arrowcarts should have been fixed years ago but Anet just kept buffing them to insane levels (remember when they barely hurt you? Yeah. That used to be a thing).

all siege needs to be reworked imo. Trebs/catas hitting a door damaging rams on the other side, common. I personally would like to see ACs be taken out of the game to test what it would be like.

And honestly ac can shoot vertically over walls. But with the new camera change may need nerf the ac range.

The current max FoV is barely above an acceptable level. Any smaller fixednFoV that wasn’t too small would still let people see over walls.

Complaining to revert a fix that was long awaited is ridiculous. Get your own issue fixed instead of trying to ruin something good for the rest of us.

True — in that there should be nothing stopping a player from firing over such a short wall. However, realistically speaking, we shouldn’t be able to see over that wall and know that we’re hitting our targets. Not like that. Not ever.

…. this is exactly what I was afraid of when the camera change was announced. I’ve just been semi-away lately so hadn’t gotten around to testing the camera with it.

Either lock the camera while on siege to explicit preset fov, etc. or better yet prevent wvw from the new camera changes, and punish those that ‘unlock’ the camera via any method (I know some of that was done already, the punishing aspect, but now it’s allowed?)

That or just fundamentally change wvw because with this, basically now everyone is zoomhacking, and it’s allowed by the client now…

Well, now siege has to be fixed to not allow this. I don’t think it’s fair that anyone can easily see what the defenders are doing inside either, but change siege, or I’m afraid many may be done with wvw… and I couldn’t blame them (all that would be left to have fun with due to the recent changes is small time roaming and that’s hard to get anymore) and I guess I will just continue to be semi-away and hope things improve, because this is disheartening. I’m hoping Anet will address this in some way, (as well as the gwamm issue from those that don’t deserve it, but that’s a whole other issue, but at least it’s already been stated they are aware of it).

Waiting for more official response on this and what steps can be done to address it.

So how bad did the Chinese get it? The western patch is a nightmare. Fix your crap and stop the furious backpedaling when things go wrong. Interact with us like we’re, you know, people that actually paid for and play your game. It’s ridiculous.

If you had logged on and looked at the options you’d see a big and clear “BETA” on the new camera options. EotM is the beta map? where are you getting this from? the only time EotM was used on beta, that we know of, was when they were Beta Testing EotM, shocking i know.
The patch wasn’t delayed a week, it was delayed indefinitely so the fact that we got it on monday means absolutely nothing. And when it comes to chinese release, all i heard about it was the leaked patch notes we got(because they were released there when the patch was not ready, which lead them to be taken down after). So as far as i know the chinese client doesn’t even have this changes live yet, since they usually patch a couple days after it goes live for us.
Regarding the FoV+AC interactions, it was expected, they said so in the blog post, in which they also mentioned people could already do that before if they used windowed mode, so what is the difference?

Camera is fine, however, what we see in the video with the arrow cart isn’t… Arrows should be blocked by walls and every other obstacle ! Killing everyone beyond the wall like that is a non-sense.

Gonna say…Yes it has issues.

However, i can overlook (HUE) the issues here as it’s giving me as a player more avenues to be creative in this game. Something it was in desperate need of (a Machinma community) can now thrive. Landscapers and others people who want to take dramatic screenshots can now do so much easier.

So no, don’t revert it. Just work on it until such time as it is completely stable.
