Do you ever take a look back at your personal story and think… I can’t actually remember doing that it was so long ago?

I know I do, I remember one chapter in particular which i absolutely loved during the Asuran story and would love to revisit it… but Alas Anet have not implemented such a tool yet.

I can understand that some missions were purely storybased and had no for of action involved other than chatting to NPC’s and watching a cinematic. But equally some of them were great and it’d be nice to watch them again. also some missions were not completed until after you leave the instance, so might be tricky to implement… However they did it in GW1. Just saying!

So my question to you is, Would you like to see this in the game? Also what would your thoughts be on Hard modes which would require the assistance of a party?

See how much interest this post gets and hopefully Anet will think about putting it in for us.

I would love it, even if doing it wouldn’t give anything (no exp, karma, gold). I used to post a Let’s Play doing the PS but I was always scared because if I missed 1 step because of any recording issue I would be screwed.

You should be able to because why not? …But considering its quality, who’d want to?

Why not. The whole thing is going to official “historical mode” anyway. If we can do PS in a zone that no longer exists surely portals can also be used to replay the stories.

I wish we could have portaled to the Kessex story steps.

“Oh, my, my Sister seems to be held in a Bandit Cave guarded by a Gigantic Toxic Spider Queen nobody mentioned….”

The story for that zone now also lies in the past and I prefer to avoid “new Kessex” if I possibly can.

+1, currently the only way to re-experience a personal story would be to create an (sorta) identical alt, kinda inconvenient. Although how to correctly implement it would be an interesting challenge. Obviously having you’re map filled with green story points would be a bad way of implementing it.

In the Hero panel there is a “Personal Story” tab, there all the steps you did are described, they could add a button there to reactivate the PS step.

Anet should reworkd finally the Personal Story.
The whole Feature Concept could get improved alot.

  • Make Personal Story finally replayable:
Players should be able to reset their Personal Story basically like in GW1 when you gave your completed Dungeon books to a NPC to get the rewards for the completed book and receive back an empty book, that allowed you to replay the Dungeons to make a new completed book for rewards again…
The same way should work the Personal Story…
So more oftenly we repeat it, so more rewarding does it become, so more new side paths to explore do get unlocked to give the player the chance to change their Personal Story.
  • Add Hard Mode to the personal Story:
Once the player has playedthrough the game for the first time with a Character and giving the Personal Diary to a NPC for the rewards to seset the Personal Story, the player should be able to replay the personal Story and have the choice now to play the Missions either in Normal Mode, or in Hard Mode.
Hard Mode will definetely require then to play the Missions as a Group of 5 People, whereas Normal Mode is basically childsplay that everybody can solo and is just for the casual players more likely that want to play through the game just only
  • Adding Hard Mode, would allowAnet to add into the Hero panel new achievements for playing through with all races the game on Hard Mode
  • Making personal Story alot more rewarding for the Mission Starter, as also for every player that joins the group to help the Mission Starter… currently helping other players in their personal story is complete utterly a waste of time and feels absolutely unrewarding
  • New Story Branches:
Something that really should be made for all of those, that totally dislike Trahearne, the made decisions of a player should decide over it, if you ever meet on Trahearner and by that you follow the normal path of the personal story, or if your decisions lead to the point, that you don’t meet on trahearner and you become Pact Marshall leading to the point, that maybe a few compkletely different Missions would be in your Pesonal Story up from the Battle of Claw Island on.
Developing further the personal Story and redesignign it, addign new content to it should be in my opinion of same priority as adding new living story or addign new dynamic events….
Increasing the choices ofr personal story, adding more content to it that is impactful for the outcome of our personal story is very important and thats what keeps also the personal story fresh for players, that have far more than just 3 characters which currently have all very similar feeling personal stoies.
There needs to be alot more in the personal story to differentiate it from the PS of your other characters.
  • Redesign of the Battle against Zhaitan… absolutely the most underwhelming battle ive ever seen in a game… it was so boring, I basically felt asleep from it….

A battle against something like Zhaitan should feel really epic and not bone dry and boring like now. It should be some kind of multi phase battle that becomes more and more dramatic over the course if time when one phase shifts into the next one.
It should let the players with their character make feel really, that they grow in that moment over themself, that they do something so heroically what the players wouldn’t expect from their characters in that moment. That you feel the immersion of this fight being really dangerous and not something that you battle agaisnt like every day like some silly krait or so …

The battle agaisnt zhaitan should really be that kind of epic moment, where you repicture your personal journey, where all of those come to your help, that you have helped in the past..all your friends, all your allies, destinies edge and so on should be all part of that final awesome battle against the elder dragon helping each other out as best as possible to slay the dragon with the united powers of everybody and everythign that might help to beat Zhaitan, be it wisdom of the priory, military force of the vigil or the cunning of the order of whispers, which should have also a great deal of making your final battle personal. The order you did choose should also play a big role in how you fight against Zhaitan at all… your chosen order should preset the used tactics versus Zhaitan.

I really do hope, that we will see once the day, where Anet will put focus on improving the core of the game and the core of the game is the game’s personal story, which as seen as a feature definetely needs to get improved.

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

I agree… Maybe add in a new chain of achievements for doing them in hard mode… Just for the achievement points and the fun of it. Maybe give a new Minipet for the Meta Achievement or something else that is equally non-advantageous to players but just for the look… maybe another pact token to get a second pact skin from Orr… I dunno, just gives players something to do once they have completed all the living story stuff and only log in each day for their dailies.

Having the personal story revisit would be something to do to kill some time.

That would be fun if there were additional paths to take, but I don’t know how often I would play through any of it without incentive to do so tbh. What I want more is for an ACT 2 that focuses more on my characters origin selections, and really just focuses on my character being the primary force in the story. Not some side character I’m answering to all the time.

I like the idea of different paths, I mean as we know personal stories have many different paths to choose which change the missions you enter. Having the ability to go in to each of these chapters and play them to unlock the things we previously didn’t choose… like starter gear for example. I dunno just being able to play the game through but instead of joining order of whispers the second time around I joined the Vigil for example. It doesn’t remove your previous story chapters but instead adds in additional one’s.

So each character can view his/her personal story tab and see all the options of the chapters they can do. Once one is complete it reveals all the information, until them it’s just a grayed out name that cannot be selected so you can’t see what happens in that chapter… If that makes any sense at all!

Basically from the get-go all chapter names are visible but you cannot see any information for them until you have completed them and the only way to unlock is to go back to previous story chapters and select a different option than you did before.

That could unlock a whole new world for some players who really are getting a bit bored in game. I’ve literally logged in and finished my daily within an hour… then i stopped and thought “Well what should I do now?” my response “Meh, I’m gonna log off cuz there is nothing else to do…. but i’ll swing by the forum first.”

I would do a dungeon but i really CBA to spend an hour doing one… especially when i’ve done them over and over again… I’d use this time right now to go into my personal story and complete a few chapters. and I’d also invite some friends along if there was a hard mode for them.

This really would open up a whole new world for the game, content is already there… So Anet, over to you!

The personal story was terrible for me, so I wouldn’t care at all to replay it. Now if they overhauled it with better voice-acting/cutscenes, then maybe. The human storyline was so bland. Every character was a robot. After hearing Logan’s lines delivered, you would never know that Troy Baker was such an amazing voice actor. (Play The Last of Us)

I know what you’re saying there, I agree that some (but not all) personal story lines were a touch bland but equally some were really enjoyable.

With regards to the voice acting… my only gripe is the Sylvari on that… I’m an actor myself and bad accents are a pet hate of mine. Although I appreciate the attempt from American Voice actors doing a British accent. Certain words they say are just wrong!

In Britain the word “Can’t” is pronounced “Car-n’t” and unfortunately ever single Sylvari pronounces the word as “cant” which is the american pronunciation. There are others, but this is the one that keep making my teeth grit.

Naturally that doesn’t ruin the game but it does bug me lol… Anyway that is something to discuss in another thread.

The Sylvari use the contrived theatrical Mid Atlantic english.

I agree, I would love to do this.

For various reasons (real life interrupting me, playing an alt, Living Story, etc.) I often take long breaks between doing sections of the personal story and find myself struggling to remember exactly what happened before.

The Personal Story pane, and to a greater extent the wiki help a bit, but it’s no substitute for actually playing through it.

Obviously if it was repeatable you’d only get the rewards the first time, on repeat plays it should be limited to drops from enemies. But since it’s all instanced it seems like it should be relatively easy to make it repeatable, just add a way to put the entrance back into the game world.
