Minor nitpick, but it’s the small things piling up that cause eruptions.
I have a royal terrace pass (permanent). yet every time i log off there i log back in to view of my character getting kicked out like a scrub, cause “no pass, no entry, no exceptions!”

That pass that’s all the time in my inventory and is completely permanent? I didn’t cough up 1000 gems to be treated like a late night drunk at pub that’s about to close, thank you very much.

Of course it’s a minor gripe, but it really stains the “exclusive” service feeling and is basically programmers taking shortcuts at expanse of my immersion. The royal pass should not be an item at all, only account wide unlock. Simple as that. And from that moment on guard should have beef with my characters only if it was 2 week one and duration has expired. Instead we get the boot cause someone didn’t bother to code it right.

it’s a precaution against people who may not have been in their legitimately. doesn’t take less than 5 seconds to walk outside the gate before you log off.

I agree with the OP. Its rather shoddy, inelegant and pitiful that it works like that. A script that checks for a verification flag periodically would work just as well, and there is absolutely no code-based reason for why it couldn’t be programmed to check your inventory (or account as it should be for an account-wide unlock) for a flag binary.

OP is right – its lazy, not a feature.

One is only the smartest person in the room if they are alone.

On the other hand, after being ignominiously kicked from the place I spent good money to access, I can stand there and soothe my shattered nerves by watching others get kicked out also. (And the people who innocently try to get inside and who are rudely kicked to the curb).

i agree it’s p annoying and the airship pass is worse because at least for me when i log off while on it and then log back in later i have to sit through 2 load screems: 1 for loading into the game, only to be teleported off the ship and onto the ground which is another relatively lengthy load time.

i have both it and the royal pass and alternate between them depending on which area is closer to the newest thing going on in game. right now for instance it’s def. the royal pass for wintersday dailies but being kicked out of there is just not as annoying as the airship lol.

i am hoping in the next feature patch they do away with this behavior and just make it some type of account unlock where all ur characters can freely “warp” to the terrace or airship via some kind of UI thing, depending on which they purchased (or both and there would be an option to check a box for which one ur account has as the default) and just get rid of the items.

Problem is the pass acts as an invisible boon that can be checked … once “cast” and disappears when you zone. It’s how it’s implemented relative to the features of their game engine. Some software dev decided this was the easiest way to do it without needing to alter the engine. As a programmer I can state that we are a “lazy” bunch going for quickest, fewest bits of code to change for added functionality all the time. I’m sure their programmers as equally “lazy”. Note I’m not saying “lazy” is bad. It reduces the scope of the changes and makes testing easier but side effects tend to be overlooked.

You don’t get the concept Astral, do you? Even a place with 24/7 open access, like say a Gym can and will remove people from the premises that stay to long, but let me specifically make the case for the Royal Terrace. Even with the Terrace being open 24/7, let’s presume it has limited space and can’t hold 25,000 people(just numbers mind you). So if 50,000 people have access to this place and it only holds 15,000…how do you accommodate the other 35,000? By removing those that are no longer present physically you allow those other people to access the facility. I know we’re talking virtual space here and a game and not the real world, but at least have some fun with it.

Seems like i dodged a bullet when i chose queen’s terrace over airship pass.

Bottom line of my thread is that programmers were lazy at our expense. And mind you they’re charging extra money for it. Regular ingame features are better programmed then a payed one.

Even if one has to be ousted for one reason or another, it could be done with teleporting like in case when you don’t have a pass and try to enter with stability on. You’re just ported back. Having the guard kick my character with line that should never be there, given i have the pass, is nothing more then someone not doing their job right, while charging extra $ from players for it.

It’s not lazy if there isn’t a way for the game engine to inspect our inventory. TP is different than the game engine. The game engine supported examining conditions on players. The pass imposes a condition. Since there are 2 week versions of the item you can’t simply say, well if the character is there then they are allowed since the pass may have run it’s course.

So you can’t log into those areas without being tossed, safest way to handle the time limited version.

If there was a 2-week condition applied each time someone used a pass, would that not turn a temporary pass into a permanent one, as long as they used it at least once every two weeks?

You’re missing that the temporary pass would be consumed upon use.

pretty much saying that it turns into something like the bank golems you get with the digital deluxe edition. use it once, and you have 2 weeks of unlimited use before it runs out, then it runs out. And have the permanent one like the permanent stuff they have ingame, like the bank access and tp express.

But that has nothing to do with the engine determining whether a condition exists, and whether to..or not to…remove the player from the area.

Perhaps, there will be a change to the engine in the future. =)

Yep, this is annoying and I’d love to see a fix for it. It’s not a big deal but, like someone above said, it’s the small things that, when put together, cause the big eruptions…
