Q:

I’m considering leveling a character to 80 without killing anything & without doing any crafting. Can it be done? What are some good strategies/tactics?

Yes it can be done. Just gather or do collection events.

I think this would actually be pretty easy/doable. This game rewards you greatly for exploring, each time u discover a new way point or a new area u get about the same experiences as about half of a DE which is pretty good. It’d prolly require the entire 100% world completion but between that and gathering, i think it’d be more then doable, although tedious as hell.

Gathering, rezzing, exploring.
Many hearts can be done without killing.
Using supply in WvW for repairs or building siege (though it depends whether or not you’re okay with facilitating killing with the siege).
And of course any dailies you can manage (gathering is a constant, events can usually be done, rezzing, dodging, JPs, MF (if you don’t count that as crafting), Laurel Vendor, Karma Spender, skill point, leveler, possibly more?). If there aren’t enough pacifist dailies for the day do a couple on a different character so you can get the exp bonus for completing it on the pacifist.

Can you enter cof at lvl 1?

You can do a CoF run on a level 80 character and swap to your lowbie on the last boss. You’ll get the full reward on your alt.

Pretty much anything in GW2 gives exp. I’m surprised breathing doesn’t give any exp yet.
Just do non-combat stuff: gather, resurrect, discover, etc.

Nope, you cant get to 80 without killing a single thing. It goes down the crapper between level 1 and 2 sadly.

You must fight the monsters at lvl 1, no matter how you go about it.

Not if you start a new alt with a friend and let him do the killing ^^

Also there are DE’s that allow you to collect things to complete. However there are a good bit of mobs around when you do. Just make sure you roll a character with great mobility and defensive traits/skills. Maybe even lots of stealth and buy the karma stealth kits.

Just remember, that you won’t be able to get out of the starter instance without something dying. Not sure if you can get the mission cleared with just being present and not participating.

Interesting challenge! Don’t think I would have the willpower to complete it.

Would love to level a character 0-80 without dying and without crafting, like the old survivor title used to be in GW1.

If you need help in your quest, let me know. Just make sure to record your exploits with either video or frequent screenshots

1. You can do a lot of hearts that don’t require to kill mobs.

2. Points of interests & Vistas.

3. Collecting events.

It is fairly easy actually. If you don’t mind “incapacitating” skill point NPC’s then you have all of world exploration for experience. If you don’t want to do that then you are limited to the other 50 or so things that award experience in this game. Reviving, and gathering are your best bets. make sure you complete the dailies associated with those things for extra experience.

Was actually thinking of starting a thief who I level up almost purely on world completion. Probably won’t be so strict as to completely outlaw killing though (especially since skill points and hearts require it often).

won’t work, in every tutorial you need to kill.

OR maybe let some friends guide you trough the Tutorial, without you actually have to kill the boss, I suggest a Asura, you only need to kill the Golem

You don’t have to kill anything in any of them. All you have to do is enter the boss room and ride the coattails of anyone else doing it.

Though now that I think of it, there will be another issue with not killing anyone:
You will not unlock any weapon skills. Notably movement skills and protection skills like Line of Warding.
