Please add a Glider Toggle on/off to the Hero Equipment / Hero Wardrobe screens (see picture).
There are occasions when the glider gets in the way, and I really wish I had the ability disable it.
As a safety measure for forgetful people, you could also add this check box to the OPTIONS screen:
Soul River glider best glider.
I agree with you wholeheartedly OP. Some variation of this request has been an almost weekly thing for the longest time. The last one was https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Gliders-and-jumping-puzzles/first#post6090989
(I’m not implying your reason is jumping puzzles. The last time it came up was about jps but there are many reasons for requesting this.)
I hate to tell you this but despite the fact that you’re only asking for an OPTION that won’t hurt anybody who doesn’t want to use it and will help those who have reasons (including physical impairements) for using it, you’re gonna get some L2P responses. Why? I don’t know. It boggles the mind.
So, are you saying that you want to be able to sour through the air like superman without anything helping you fly (appearance wise)? Or am I misunderstanding you?
Much of my reason for the request IS jumping. (Not only full fledged “puzzles”, but many simple jumps in the general world as well where I find myself going someplace I didn’t intend to go).
I am not a “natural” jumper – in fact I worked long and hard just to become competent. Early on I had days where it nearly made me rage-quit the game entirely. Today I still have bad jumping days where I recognize that I just need to give up for awhile and try again later.
Now that I’m pretty comfortable jumping, all of a sudden I’m soaring over my intended landing spot a lot. A very frustrating turn of events. Not rage-quit frustrating, but why shouldn’t we be able to equip or un-equip a glider just like any other piece of gear?

Razor, I want to ability to “unequip” the glider like any other piece of gear. There are times (for me) when I do NOT want to deploy the glider if I accidentally hold down my spacebar too long.
I usually see it suggested as an options-window feature, like the option to disable double-tap-to-dodge. The idea of having it in the character equipment screen is a neat alternative.
I love gliding, but it can be pretty frustrating when you’re trying to do a non-HoT jumping puzzle.
There… I adjusted the title to make it more clear I want to treat gliders as just another piece of equipment that can be equipped or unequipped. After all, they are re-skinnable and dyable, just like most pieces of equipment.
Despite the fact that some look like wings, and that they currently deploy automatically like wings, they are not wings. They are gliders. Man-made equipment. Let us un-equip them if desired!

Just stop holding down the space bar, you only need to tap it in order to jump.

You were right, Zoltar. I’m getting “Learn to Play” responses now.
During my self imposed jump-training camp, I determined that the longer I hold the spacebar, the further I jump. (Or maybe it’s higher. Or both.)
It’s not a huge difference distance-wise from simply tapping, but I definitely do notice one. It’s the same as with simple ground movement. A quick tap of a movement key let’s you shuffle a few inches in one direction, but holding the same key down for a half second longer moves you a couple of feet.
There are jumps that I cannot make with a quick tap of the spacebar, and holding the spacebar down to lengthen my jump deploys my wings now, sending me soaring beyond my intended landing spot.

Or they could provide an option to disable it. You could just as easily say, “Don’t double-tap when you’re in a high place,” but we still have an option to disable double-tap dodging.
Jumping puzzles aren’t unplayable with gliding, obviously, but that doesn’t mean the experience wouldn’t be improved by the option.
There is another option (and it’s how i initially assumed that the glider works when i first got it): Change the behaviour of the glider (optional of course similar to disabling double tap) so that holding space does not automatically deploy the glider but pressing it again while in mid air does.
People who are used to and like the way it works now can leave it as it is, and people who want more control can use that option.
It also eliminates the problem of forgetting to re-equip the glider.

I would instantly buy that.

I figured this too (I now break jumps down into long and short jumps), and it bugs the cheeze doodles out of me when the glider deploys mid-long-jump. If I’m doing it wrong, I’d love to be corrected!
Yet I know that if I checked the proposed glider box off, I’ll end up jumping to my death wondering why I don’t have my glider*. I am that daft! Still, I like the idea and would appreciate its implementation.
*Something a bit like this actually happened, a few weeks back. I was murdering harpies in the open world Harathi Hinterlands, but it must have been on the edge of the (underground) jumping puzzle, because I fell down the side of the cliff and died in an embarrassing heap at the bottom of it. I had expected to glide, of course, and failed to see the "no glide" icon, because I’m quite clearly blind, and there was no immediate reason for it to be a "no-glide zone".

there… is no difference between tap to jump and hold to jump. the jump distance is always the same, so just tap.
you get more air on a vertical non running jump, so if you tap while standing still you’ll jump higher than tapping while running, that’s the only way for it to be different.
