This is not a feature patch, most of the things announced are simply fix wanted from community since 2 years (f.e. commander). Now i should wait other 6 months for class balancing and needed fix, meanwhile, no sab, no legendary, no class, no races,no pvp improvement….should i continue?

They are actually fixing things people want, and you are complaining?! Seriously?

Thank you, Anet. These are things people asked for, and you gave it to us. I know people complain about the lack of communication, and there are certainly still things that people want that have not been done, but there are probably reasons. You should still do those things. Make the effort. But thank you for doing what you have done.

We should be glad, and we should let the company know when they do things we actually like. More whining doesn’t accomplish anything.

I think you’re glossing over the point where Anet class “Fixes” as “Features”.
This needs to be clarified because while we see something like the dungeon instance owner thing as a fix (because it’s been a “fix” in previous patches to try and resolve everyone being kicked from a dungeon), Anet obviously see it as a fix worthy of being a Feature.

I dunno…is it “If it takes more than 6 months to fix, it’s instantly a feature”?

Gotcha.

More like “it’s as ambiguous as I need for my argument”. Just like how " supposed to be there at launch" conveniently meant “always meant to be in the game”.

Isn’t that what “at launch” means? Is there some other reality in which “at launch” doesn’t mean “in the game”?

“at launch” is the time the content was planned for. “always meant to be” is statement of intent. And you made it a very definitive one, like they set it in stone. I don’t even know what your point was in the first place. You just wanted to argue about official quotes that talk about when & if the Tengu were worked on & to what extent?

My point was, again, Anet making the Tengu is not some little tidbit that do to be nice or gracious it’s a significant piece of content that & features that they are going to have to make some kind of money with. Whereas this patch has (so far) been just minor QoL tweaks. Again, I think they’re just bundling stuff they’ve been doing to hide the LS breaks. It seems like it has little to do with “focusing” work on features.

you really don’t know what is a feature…. and again , 8 months ago in a CDI about improvements of commander , a lot of good things came out , but in 8 month they put only commander colour&account bound commander , for the spvp it’s 1,5 years they are talking about new type of pvp and they also told always 8 month ago of league/ladder and still we have nothing of those things. I have 4,2k of hours on this game and i think yet this is an amazing mmo , but after 2 years it’s late to do a feature patch full of things which we must had 2 years ago , not now , now it’s late.

Yes I know what a feature is. The problem, late or not, some of these things are features. But it’s all irrelevant anyway, because Anet has defined, in the past, precisely what a feature pack is. You’re just ignoring what they told us.

In the past, these updates were delivered with the living story. Anet decided that the living story and other upgrades at the same time detracted from each. The updates got lost in the story or vice versa. So they took those things out of the regular patches and put them in the feature patch. They TOLD us this.

If you want to make up other definitions for what it is, be my guest.

I’ll go with what was told to us.

Anet TOLD us, straight out, exactly what these content patches would be. No guesswork. They told us. You choose to apply a definition of content that works fine except for that explanation. If you insist on doing this, that’s fine. It’s your prerogative to do so.

I just don’t see that as reasonable or fair. That’s my prerogative.

Vayne, my man, you’re trying too hard to convince those who disagree.

The feature patch is bringing us stuff the game needs – yep, no disagreement there. I think the bigger problem is all the hype coming for what is, when all is said and done, quality of life fixes.

I’ll grant, this is simply my opinion, but the QoL stuff shouldn’t get that much fanfare. Really, the amount of hyping going into it is annoying. The whole teasing out bits and pieces over weeks, and being jubilant over each bit… that’s the kind of treatment I’d expect for full on content – content for me being new maps, new skills, new weapons, new dungeons. That type of release deserves massive hype and a bunch of teasing.

A far more appropriate way to treat what’s in the feature patch would be, to me:

“Folks, we’ve been listening, and a number of people have had concerns over how the Megaserver™ treats guilds, so we’re making guilds work across worlds.

In addition, we’re aware of some problems from how the dungeon party system works, and we’ve found a solution that removes the party owners.

As always, we’re working to improve performance, and have made some large strides towards that goal that will be visible come patch day."

And so on. Have each major point of the feature patch addressed, all at once, without all the hype.

It’s hard for most people to get terribly excited about bugfixing and system changes. They may notice, but it likely won’t make a huge change in how they play, and it certainly isn’t giving people more options in what they’ll do while in game. Honestly, for what’s coming, they could have just done a normal patch, with regular release notes and I feel it would have gone over smoother.

Just my $0.02

(Addressed this to Vayne because, while I mostly agree with where you’re coming from, I certainly understand the disappointment evident from others in what we’re getting. Every time you go to bat arguing with people over stuff like this, it makes you seem that much more a hardcore Anet “white knight/apologist”, when mostly, they don’t need it.)

Yep they did say stuff that hasn’t been done yet. 100%. But they also gave us things they never told us they were going to give us. It works both ways. They didn’t tell us we were getting an account wallet, but I welcome it just the same. They didn’t tell us about the story journal but I like like it. They didn’t tell us about the Bazarre of the Four Winds or the Queen’s Pavillion, but those were good additions to the game. A lot of people seemed to like the Queen’s Gauntlet. They didn’t tell us about it.

So they said there’d be 100 things in the game and they gave us 90. Numbers out of my backside, not real, but you get the idea. Most things they said were delivered on and many things that haven’t told us about came out as well.

So if you want to say they didn’t give us stuff, again, your prerogative. They’ve given me quite a bit. And most of the stuff they haven’t given me isn’t that significant to me.

Lol, Lanfear, there are screennames I’ll just skip past, given their post history. Generally, if it’s yours or Vayne, I’ll assume without reading that it’s either defense of Anet/GW2 against the negative posts, or nitpicking bits of other’s arguments without adding anything constructive.

On the same note, there are a LOT of names I’ll skip based on their history of bringing nothing but “Anet sucks, dude!” to the conversation.

In that sense, there are most certainly people that, in my head, I have pegged as “White Knights” or “QQers”, and generally won’t waste my time on. You most definitely fit into my “White Knight” box.

Sorry, eh?

Do you really think I believe I can change the mind of someone who doesn’t like the game?

Stale

(Addressed this to Vayne because, while I mostly agree with where you’re coming from, I certainly understand the disappointment evident from others in what we’re getting. Every time you go to bat arguing with people over stuff like this, it makes you seem that much more a hardcore Anet “white knight/apologist”, when mostly, they don’t need it.)

Edited because the forum censor is just plain out strange sometimes.

yes you are right, this stuff usually goes at the bottom of patch notes, because while it is welcomed, it doesnt really deserve a blog post, or even top billing.

I think, quite often, that changes those minds is exactly what you appear to be trying to do. Arguing with those who disagree, to the point that it resembles the “nuh-uh/uh-huh” exchanges that children sometimes get into.

In my own personal parlance, I consider that type of exchange “shouting down a well”. You hear a lot, but no ideas get exchanged, and nothing develops from it.

Like I said though, just my $0.02. I only brought it up because, quite often, I agree with you, but you’ve certainly gained the reputation of blindly defending Anet, and nitpicking minutae, even if it’s unrelated to the conversation at hand.

I know, and it’s okay. Considering the amount of, what I consider to be, unfair posts, I’m quite happy to continue as I am. People can ignore the times I agree with criticism all they want…it doesn’t mean I don’t do it.

And there are times when I agree with people too…just the ones I perceive are being reasonable.

There’s a thread on the forums right now where someone said they don’t understand what people are complaining about and I defended the complainers.

No one points to those posts, though.

Selection bias, perhaps? More people come to the complaint threads (if only because a lot of people have a variety of complaints) and these are the threads where people are most likely to be unreasonable – myself included – and that means these are the threads where we’re most likely to see you come out in defense of the game?

You mean like how people who praise everything Anet does call people that disagree with them “haters” & “QQers”? Ok.

And I’ve griped about the use of those too. I’ve pointed out many times that this kitten goes both ways and it’s not conducive to worthwhile discussion. Ever.

As I’ve stated before, there really aren’t people who “praise everything” thus the misnomer “white knight.” Just like there aren’t people who “hate everything” either. However, at this point I’m just repeating myself and people still aren’t going to comprehend.

Sorry, eh?

I did chuckle. Typically it’s my way of showing I’m not offended or kittened off. I accept your apology, no ones perfect, and even I have moments where I judge badly. Its called being human.

As for the Canadian thing…. lol. I have a couple of Canadian friends / guildies / coworkers (I live relatively close to Canada), and they’ve said almost that exact same thing before. Can’t help but chuckle.

A lot of people in this thread are trying to say nothing is being done, nothing is coming out, nothing is happening. I don’t believe that.

I think that the point should be CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. Everyone will have an opinion some good and some bad that is what makes this such a great experience to be able to bring up debates and have respectful dialog but saying “this is sinking ship/precursor this that/not enough content” (because you don’t give it worth) doesn’t help moving forward. Some things can be made and others can’t we don’t understand the game as a whole we see one thing but forget that ONE thing affects the WHOLE game. The domino effect. True A-Net need to improve communication because that is why things have gotten so out of hand but lets look at all the topics going on NOW. Developers understand and are trying to move forward why do we still have to stay in the past. I feel that I have to defend more then actually be a part of constructive debates because of the amount of people in the forums who’s only purpose is to attack. Developers have made comments and five post attack them right after. Think would you want to be a part of that post if that was the resolute? Smart comments (smart as in sarcastic) and verbal abuse?

(precursor has been explained and people still don’t read they would rather talk)

People need to lighten up – this ‘Entitled’ mentality of posters on this forum does not help their cause with the developers.

It’s actually people like you who are doing the most harm.

Nope.

Stop crying. Start listening. The devs are here (it’s like Christmas for those of us who have been here for a year +) stop berating them. Start listening. They aren’t going to respond to hostility or unconstructive behavior.

Then they have failed before they’ve even begun.

Dramatization:

Patient: Say, that hurts. How about another shot of novacaine?
Dentist: (silence)
Patient: kitten, that hurts! Stop!
Dentist: (silence)
Patient: Dude, what the heck is wrong with you?
Dentist: (hands the patient a lollipop) I’m excited! Are you excited? Because I am!
Patient: You bleepity bleep! Stop it! Ahh!
Dentist: If you can’t address me properly, I shall ignore you. Now, let’s have a nice chat. But we can’t chat about painkillers or cavities or fillings or root canals. Company policy, and all that.
Patient: Aaaaaahhhhhhh!!!
Dental Assistant: Dentists don’t respond to hostility or nonconstructive behavior.

Bad analogy is bad.

A dentist that hurts you is hurting you. But in the process he’s not helping anyone else. He’s only hurting you. You’re the only one there. The only one he speaks or doesn’t speak to.

Here you have a group of people who like something a group who doesn’t and the group who doesn’t feels “hurt”. But it’s not pain. It’s disappointment, maybe. Maybe annoyance.

Physical pain is physical pain. Some people deal with it better than others. Disappointment is the same way.

It’s more like going to a college lecture and being bored, and then complaining to your friends after. Maybe not everyone was bored. And you might even say it was painful, but it’s not. It’s just you being bored.

It’s okay to be bored. It’s not okay to demand that the professor tailor all lectures to you.

A really underwhelming batch of fixes in this september fixes patch. In the next days we will have what they developed for the china client. I don’t understand why they don’t open more weapons for the classes. They have all the models, animations and particules. The only thing that could explain the no progress in this aspect I think, is there is only one person that works on class/balance/design, that’s why we have so few balance patch and nothing to see there.

As someone mentionned, all the fixes could have been made with the bi-weekly updates. They retained them on purpose. Not even a wardrobe scale feature atm, very underwhelming.

“they gave us nothing in two years” is a bit stretched, lemme recap for those who were distract during these years:

- new traits: on for each traitline for every class
- new recipes
- new skills (healing skills, and ok most of them are bad/useless, but still are new)
- new skins
- one balance patch (I know that much has yet to be done but it’s a first step)
- new maps (one in pvp, one in wvw and one in pve)
- new boss mechanics (tequatl, mega wurm ecc)
- megaserver (I like it, finally maps aren’t ghost towns anymore)
- seasonal events
- living story (I am unsure if there are other games updated this frequently)

I am sure I am missing something but hey you get the picture.
Granted, our priorities may differ from devs ones, as for example I would’ve focused all the firepower into fixing bugs and balancing classes as absolute top priority, but to blindly state that “they did nothing” is unfair and overstretched.

It’s not so unfair.
Ok, they added into the game some things (not many, some), but still we need something similar to a content patch, an expansion, something really to play in a MMO. A map released in 3 parts (4 living stories, 1 month and a half) is not enough for the game, and doesn’t count as a fresh air to it.

I don’t want to give any real opinion about the patch since they’ve announced everything, since we could say what will be good or not, but since now what i’ve seen is only a lot of noise and nothing to taste.

2 years is a long time for an MMO not to release anything.

I think you are mistaken. We have released content and features in the last two years on a fairly regular basis. Just because the content and/or features were things that you personally did not particularly care for doesn’t mean we didn’t release anything.

Please don’t trivialize the efforts of our design and development staff down to “nothing” because you didn’t like it. It’s fine to comment that you didn’t care for what was released, but don’t pretend like we’ve done nothing here for the past two years.

Looks at WvW

Looks at sPvP

Looks at precursor crafting

Looks at official GvG game-mode

Looks at guild capes and guild halls

Looks at new zones and dungeons

Looks at new weapon, utility, and elite skills

Looks at slow and almost non-existent balance updates

Ok Mark.

Ew.

How does it feel to ignore work because it isn’t something you personally benefit from?

Sometimes I wonder about people in this community and whether they can be content at all.

Keep up the good work Anet. You obviously have a large part of your audience that refuses to be satisfied until you dance to their beat.

If you like the content, you are likely content. If you are discontented with the content you may be a malcontent. If you don’t care one way or the other, could be you are incontinent. Um. Wait, that doesn’t sound right…

It’s a feature patch not a content patch. There’s not supposed to be content in this patch. If you’re waiting for content, you’re going to be disappointed.

I know that, but when we’ll see a content patch, at the 10th of the game?

Whether you like it or not. we’re getting content patches relatively often. It may not be content you like. In the past it wasn’t even permanent content. But it was content. If you like that content, you’re happy and if you don’t you’re not.

You’re not really asking when we’re getting a content patch. You’re asking when are we getting a patch with content you’re interested in.

Ok, let’s make it clear.
On a normal MMO content will be something like:
- playable races
- new classes
- new maps/continent
- news skills
- new level cap (not working on gw2, and i don’t even want it)
- new dungeons/raids
- new mini-games/activities
- new pvp game modes (if existing in it)
and so on.

What Guild Wars 2 needs?
- new skills (yes, utilities or rework on existing)
- new weapons on existing classes (to change the meta and/or get some fresh air)
- new classes (they announced that when they’ll release a new class, will be a heavy one)
- new races (tengu WERE SUPPOSED TO BE RELEASED WITH THE GAME, look at the many interview and sources in 2010-2012)
- new pvp modes/maps (they tried with courtyard, but till they’ll put into at least join solo, will be useless)
- new complete regions (ok, they added dry top, but it’s ONLY a start)
- new dungeons (for who wants them, i don’t like dungeons in here and instanced content)
- new minigames (where are the minigames on every race main town that they announced before the release?)
- new guild related contents, ’cause MMOs are made by guilds (guild halls, guild mission, guild rewards)

Rest is the normal fixing, QoL and balancing that usually a game of this caliber needs to have. And i’m not even mentioning something like precursor crafting, new legendaries and many things announced in these two years.

Now, tell me what of these things are supposed to be added into the game soon? Cause everything i’ve heard so far, it’s just they want to use the LS to add things into the game. In 2020 we’ll be still waiting to go on Crystal Desert, probably.

I’m probably one of the most active player on the world in this game, but i can understand that right now the game points to satisfy new players and people logging in once in a week.

I love how people think I don’t get what people are saying. It blows my mind.

I get it. What’s not to get. Guy A wants some stuff and Guy B wants some stuff, but those two guys…they may not want the same stuff.

The point is you’re right. A lot of stuff other MMOs have provided Anet hasn’t yet provided. That’s 100% true. What you’re missing is that some of us came here to get away from other MMOs. I don’t LIKE other MMOs or I’d be playing them.

Anet is focusing on the stuff that makes it different from other MMOs not the same. And those who like the features those MMOs have are feeling they’re missing out…and they are.

Doesn’t change a single thing I’ve said up until now. Not one, single thing.

you dont really do dungeons, but ill tell you that anet dunegons when done well feel fairly different from other dungeons, due to a different combat system, the lack of the trinity, and a focus on the overal dungeon rather than just one boss.

Dynamic event system is also something anet did well on release, but post release hasnt seen much of import.

WvW is one of the main things gw2 does different than other MMOs.

the type of exploration you got when you bought the game, i would say is another thing they did well.

weapons classes being added expands the weapon skill system fairly unique to GW2

many of the things people are asking for arent features come from other MMOs, people are looking for GW2 type features expanded. Lets be honest, the living story currently represents personal story (in terms of what was on release) Which is not one of its strengths, nor is it its most unique aspect.

Some people want some of the other gw2 type things to be expanded on/evolved.

I agree with what you’re saying (except for the fact that I don’t do dungeons. I’ve done plenty of dungeons, I don’t enjoy dungeons).

But other games center on dungeons. That’s what they’re about. Dungeons and raids. Almost every themepark MMO centers on them and has centered on them all along. I’ve been in so many games where this is what is provided. So I’m happy this game is providing something else.

At no point did I say that I don’t think Anet should work on dungeons or WvW. I just don’t think Anet is doing as badly as others try to make out. And I don’t think most of the in game players feel that way. I know the forum does.

It’s because everything is different and Anet isn’t using a formula, at least in part, that stuff takes so long. Let’s look at some upgrades they did provide.

EotM which the WvW people disdain. It was a huge amount of work and people do use it, but the WvW people are saying they never got anything. They got a new zone. They simply don’t like the zone, even though they enjoyed it when they tested it.

Then there’s the Aetherblade path. You know, seems to me that that’s a lot of work put into that dungeon and it’s a great dungeon…and one of the least run dungeons.

I’m not sure why Anet should put work into stuff that people just complain about after and say nothing as been done. Because when they do something, those people don’t like it anyway.

But they do the living story and Dry Top and seems there are still plenty of people there.

So far the big projects they’ve put out for the special interest groups have largely been wasted on the groups they’ve been made for.

Man, i’ve played 8 year on GW while played almost every MMO came out in the last 10 years (and seen them failing or copy-pasting something else). What i’m asking is what the most of the community of MMOs want to see after TWO YEARS and to EXPAND what the game ALREADY HAVE or simply HAVE ANNOUNCED before.

It’s not difficoult, obviously if you’re not just a fanboy.

I’ve played probably as many MMOs as you have and I’ve played Guild Wars 1 as well. You don’t know what most of the community wants to see. You only think you know because of what’s posted on the forums.

And you know, I wouldn’t mind new professions or races. I wouldn’t mind new zones either. I have nothing against any of these things.

But that still doesn’t change anything I’ve written.

I haven’t seen anything to indicate that content removed from GW2 will be coming back.

Then that’s your own fault because they announced it in a livestream, on the announcement and release page, on the forums, as well as on facebook, twitter, and even on the laughably unused google plus that all season one content will eventually be available through missions, open world, instances, and the story journal just like the season 2 content. I can’t even think of any more places where they could have announced it. Do you expect ANet to inform you by personal courier of their every decision? Bloody pay attention.

The old TA dungeon path was announced as returning in all of these locations ?

Oh one thing, how could I have forgotten. That totally validates a completely baseless claim that they’ve done nothing for two years, and second claim that they’ve done nothing permanent.

Any ones in particular? What was your favorite Guild Wars profession and/or combination of professions? What’s the closest thing to that in GW2? What’s your favorite class from any other game, and could something similar be incorporated into this game? What new zones would you like to see? Would you prefer to stay on the current in-game map, with all its currently unexplored areas, or revisit distant lands from the old game – or sail the unknown seas of Tyria to a land never before seen?

The table is a fable.
