September Fix Patch

So when will the expansion-level content that ANet has advertised in the past come to fruition?
It’s been almost two years and we’re still waiting.
This is not a feature patch, most of the things announced are simply fix wanted from community since 2 years (f.e. commander). Now i should wait other 6 months for class balancing and needed fix, meanwhile, no sab, no legendary, no class, no races,no pvp improvement….should i continue?
They call it a “Feature Pack” because “Old Fixes That Were Requested But We Never Bothered to Do” sounds bad.

Yeah, it’s all about semantics.
I like how “Big Changes to the Commander System” really means “After Over a Year of Suggestions, We’ve Finally Made Commander Tags Account Bound and Added Three Lovely Colors”.
Guys Guys, not to change the subject but please calm down with the dev hammering.
Thanks Mark for answering this query! This is a feature patch after all…
Tada, and we see yet again just why the devs won’t (can’t) talk to us.
Good job guys! Keep it up!
People need to lighten up – this ‘Entitled’ mentality of posters on this forum does not help their cause with the developers.

Either you can deliver more content (new maps, new dungeons, new class, new weapons, new playable race, new skills) or you cannot deliver more content.

A term to inaccurately describe those that don’t agree with you, nothing more. Gotta love the way people label others ….

Is there any particular reason as to why the Feature Patches take 6 months to kick off? I feel like, since the changes are offered for feedback from the community, you could make them a 2 month cycle.
The reason why I bring this up is that nothing new is being implemented in regards to flavorful skills. My opinion is slightly biased, but I play a Mesmer and with the changes I’ll be seeing, there were many, many suggestions offered for Mimic, Scepter, and GS3 (Mind Stab) to be fixed.
Instead of taking the route more inline with a 6 month wait (actually 2 years)
- Mind Stab: Numbers get shoved up. I don’t think there are any technical limitations that stopped this from happening earlier. If there are, I think the GW2 source code might need to be looked at. Does not address the issue of rooting, either.
- Scepter: Condition gets re-added (removed from BWE’s, not the same condition). This one doesn’t address the issue at all (slow cast paired with slow aftercast) and really shows laziness. 6 months to re-add something that was in place over 2 years ago.
- Mimic: Re-worked the functionality to copy another skill in a “new” way. Karl himself doesn’t really know how this change affects Mesmers. There’s no reason to “synergize” this skill with Null Field and Arcane Thievery. You’d use it in place of those two, but it won’t see competitive play because of it’s long cooldown and gimmicky effect. Basically, this skill went from one gimmick to another.
Additionally, if the changes were done every 2 months, the iLeap fix wouldn’t have been so drastic and harmful to Mesmer gameplay. We could have, as a community (Devs and Players) worked to the solution instead of jumping to a huge overcompensation, as we Mesmers tend to see.
Tl;dr: Any reason why it takes 6 months to implement major gameplay changes that end up being minor?
So will the bug fixes include adjusting wvw achievements that are deemed impossible to complete? They have cool titles linked to them and you said this was going to be fixed ages ago yet we have heard anything since then.

Nope.
Stop crying. Start listening. The devs are here (it’s like Christmas for those of us who have been here for a year +) stop berating them. Start listening. They aren’t going to respond to hostility or unconstructive behavior.
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?
Our blood has bought their lives.

It’s a very simple question to answer.
This is the real reason why they won’t divulge what’s currently in development; they want you to think that whatever it is that you actually want is already in the pipeline when in reality their main focuses are low-hanging fruit that they can sell as “Features” and the ever-so-lovely Gem Store updates.
I have a hunch that if the community knew what they were actually working on, there would be a mass exodus.

Actually no. It is the people who don’t read the developers posts and then just spout off.

That’s not necessarily true. There is as much harm caused by those who blindly hate as by those who blindly defend. However, in all my time on this forum, there are actually very, very few that “blindly” do either. There are those that spew hate that still enjoy aspects of the game and offer constructive, conducive conversations on those points. There are also those misnamed as “white knights” that offer negative feedback and critiques of the game where they find faults.
The issue comes when tempers heat, frustration boils and people just rant. Then civility is lost and neither side can approach the issue, or each other, with any rationality.

I agree some stuff should’ve been fixed before, but most things aren’t as easy as you guys think
Depending on the way things were coded, a simple thing like adding colors to commander tags can take weeks of work, maybe be remade
So I can just suggest them to look at rewards and change most of the game so the time we invest doesn’t go wasted

Why is “Language in Europe” in this blog post? The chat filter was part of a bugfix/workaround in the past. There seems to be no new game features for “Language in Europe” with this feature patch.
Greetings.

Exactly.
If they won’t tell us what’s in the pipe – then it’s because there isn’t anything, really.
Anything we want, anyway.
More LS I’m sure – but it won’t open any new maps or dungeons, or anything else people want.

Hey now, it took the WvW five months of hard work to implement those color tags.
Let’s not sell them short.

Hence the Mega Server.
People seem to focus on the changes that support their point of view:
- There are major balance changes to all 8 profs. Everyone would like more, but frequent posters in the prof subforums seem pleased with a lot of the changes.
- There are changes to sPvP. I don’t play, so I can’t speak to how good they are, but they don’t sound like simple fixes.
- There’s a new combat log that is supposed to cover everything. That’s huge, in my opinion, and not any sort of simple change.
- Siege Disablers and Golem Mastery will have a big impact on WvW, although not anything that will change the current “coverage uber alles” meta. The new tournament forum is a lot different from those we had before, so that might be great and might not be. OTOH, it’s only four weeks, so we’ll find out more quickly this time.
- Changes to commander. I agree that was overhyped by ANet — account bound and new colors will be really helpful, but that won’t change the game. It will add a lot of untried commanders and it will make it easier for stellar leaders to shine, but it hardly constitutes “big changes.”
- Megaserver Guilds: this is huge and people have asked for it since the world-bound influence system was introduced. Improving the experience for joining g-mish and destroying unpopulated maps is also big. (Perhaps the OP was submitted before this was announced.)
There are a lot of important changes coming down and we don’t even know half of the ones that will be covered on the main website, never mind all the other stuff that we’ll find in the feature build.
Now, that might not be the content that some people want and it might not address individual concerns, but I, for one, am really happy about these, especially considering I don’t have to pay a cent to get them.
Okay everyone, calm down. Let’s discuss what a Feature Pack is supposed to mean in the context of a video game.
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/feature
4: a special attraction: as
a : a featured motion picture
b : a featured article, story, or department in a newspaper or magazine
c : something offered to the public or advertised as particularly attractive <one of the car’s most popular features>
It’s obviously this definition, specifically C.
Now, let’s see what has been shown so far, and which “attractions” are considered features.

World vs. World Fall Tournament 2014
World Tournament Series
Glorious Armor Reward Track

…and there’s still 2 more weeks of announcements.
Feature Packs does not necessarily mean Content Packs.
I’m just trying to put this in perspective.
Nobody cares about feature packs. They want more content.
Actually, it’s obvious from the reaction of the player base.
Entire Guilds quitting, people leaving the game. Uproar on the forums.
The number of people who are happy with this game are in the minority.
It is not obvious to me
It is a common thing to see Guilds and players quitting in any MMORPG, and then new guilds and players arrive to replace them. And uproar on the forums is certainly characteristic of any MMO forum out there, from birth to death.
If you really claim that the majority of players are unhappy, post the facts with evidence rather than statements of opinion.
Nobody cares about feature packs. They want more content.
I care about feature packs.
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?

I must again repeat myself: Please do not speak or act like you’re speaking for the whole community. I for one am happy and excited about the feature pack (both for what’s already been announced and for what else could be announced).
“Day and night, night and day, I play this game, for what?”
“I don’t—”
“SHUT UP! And when I ask you a question, you keep your trap shut! Think I’m talking to hear myself talk? ANSWER ME!”
The rage in this thread…
While yes, I would love more content and less LS.
I’m still excited for the feature pack, and profession balances.
the question i have about the patch is the merits for a small guild that has the trek, bounty an those upgrades? but has no time in the guild to find a group willing to help out? my guild mad has the influences but in no way the merits to get new upgrades qued for puzzles, treks, challanges? tell me how my guild can improve merits by pve, wvw or pvp standards?
Not to sound rude, but you can always find more people to join your guild. Guild Trek is fairly easy to do with every just a handful of people, so if you’ve got that far then you can continue to improve, albeit maybe at a slower pace.

Every single time you use words like “almost no one cares” I’ll call you on it, because from what I’ve seen so far, you simply don’t know. A lot of people do care. You don’t and that’s fine.
Try talking for yourself and not everyone. Because it immediately calls everything else you say into question.

So when will the expansion-level content that ANet has advertised in the past come to fruition?
It’s been almost two years and we’re still waiting.
I’m sorry did Anet advertise expansion level content 2 years ago? I was playing 2 years ago…like the day the game launched in headstart and I don’t remember seeing expansion level content advertised at launch.

Agreed, though I still have reservations about what will happen to WvW in the future. After all, this set of changes have effectively disconnected guild membership with server membership.
Waiting to see what the ‘Fresh Start’ post on Thursday will reveal. I have a couple ideas for what could happen, but will hold my tongue for now.
I like to view MMOs through the lazy eye of a Systems Admin, and the critical eye of a
Project Manager. You’ve been warned. ;-)

The number of people who are happy with this game are in the minority.
You have zero evidence of this. Almost none.
There are less the a dozen strong voices complaining on the forums over and over. There are people who sort of agree and for each person who complains this way there’s another person who disagrees…and almost always more people complain than don’t complain.
Each time you post, it gets harder and harder to take what you say seriously, because you’re making statements you absolutely can’t back up.
They didn’t, they promised a living world. In fact, I think they have said all along they don’t really want to add more races or classes, so if that comes along, it’s just a nicety.
I enjoy playing the game, which is why I’m posting here and why I’m interacting with the developers to provide input now that they are trying to reopen that dialogue. If you don’t enjoy playing the game anymore, maybe sit this one out and chime in on the next one so that we can actually develop a communication system rather than just a bunch of threads cluttering the boards with ranting on a soapbox. It makes the whole thing unreadable.

Either I have a bad memory or you are simply interpreting a dev quote in the way you want to. Here is the quote:
“No need to buy them, Gw2 will feature consistent free content updates and in-game events going forward. Our goal is to make it so you get more from Gw2 for free than you get from a game you pay a subscription for. On top of a large amount of free bonus content, we will be expanding on offerings in the Black Lion Trading Company going forward, as well as be doing large-scale expansion content down the road.”
“We do appreciate that you’d like to buy lots of new content, but we’d prefer to give a lot of it to you for free, cause that’s what we think a responsible MMO company does!”
This is saying that down the road, we’ll over large scale expansion content. Down the road means at some future time. That’s all it means.
Now, also, the amount of stuff put into this game in two years…it’s a lot of content. It doesn’t look like as much because a lot of the great stuff…yes I said great stuff…from the living story season 1 is no longer in the game.
But the fact is, your opinion on what this means is just an opinion. A single paragraph in a magazine interview that isn’t saying what you say it’s saying.
We’ve gotten lots of content updates that you may not like. Which is fine. You don’t have to like it. But since at least some of us think we did get our money’s worth, and some of us are quite happy with the product (which does need work in some areas), I’d suggest you find a game that does it better and play it.
Because so far, all the games people predicted would kill this game haven’t even come close.

Hello! Nice to meet you. My name is Nobody and, yes, I do care about feature packs.More content would be nice as well, but a refactoring update is always good.
