Serious Griefing being done at Lyssa
Why not base the god forsaken things around the events that ACTUALLY ROTATE? Tample based traits are kittening stupid.
Well Karka Queen rotates and that trait’s probably the worst one to get for people that have several alts like myself. 2nd worst for me was lyssa then grenth and gates of arah. Treasure chest was easiest of course.
EDIT: on 2nd thought I didn’t start doing Karka Queen as early as I should have so it’s probably not as hard as lyssa or grenth overall. it only spawns 3 times a day though but lyssa, grenth, and gates of arah could be done more than 3 times a day (before the megaserver hit Cursed Shore).

Nope you can AFK and cause events to fail just like the dead people at grenth and tequatl that won’t waypoint to reduce scaling. Like I ran past a couple of defeated players dead bodies even though they cried for help. It’s not griefing to do nothing to help the dead people so it’s not griefing to do nothing to help the lyssa defense event.
You and the OP are no better than the people who kick rangers out of dungeon parties because they’re considered useless.
Calls community toxic. Yet is toxic themselves. Trying to force others to play your way to suit your own needs.

Every MMO has griefers. Gw2 has quite a good community compared to other MMO’s honestly.
HAHAHA ARE YOU FOR REAL
GW2’s community is just as bad as every other MMO community out there and you’re deluding yourself if you think that’s not the case. These forums are heavily sanitised so maybe the forums are a bit nicer than other MMOs’ forums but that’s it. Player base is just as bad/good as any other.
Or is the constant trolling all across the megaservers just a figment of my imagination?

Yeah I am and you must have never played another MMO lol. WoW and Rift have much worse communities than this. The forums from every game have really toxic environments, this one is pretty good. You probably need to read up on the blizz forums sometime to appreciate how well this one looks.
Forums are always toxic because every game has a community of people who feel the need to nag and let the world know about it, and the forums is pretty much where they go.
It’s just bad design on anet’s part. Anet made it in such a way that just playing the game can ruin the experience for others. Just doing events should never punish players.

I play Rift, WoW, SWTOR and GW2 and I honestly can’t tell a difference. Maybe you were on a really nice server before the megas but now that it’s one big clusterkitten it’s basically like being in barrens chat ALL THE TIME

Yup, it might take you longer than tagging one capture event, but either way, you ‘earned’ the trait.
No, you only earned the gold for your spent time.
Because if you spend the equal amount of time doing the capture event, you get the same gold and the trait.
Sorry, but I have done Lyssa capture many times before, The rewards from doing this one event are certainly not the same as you would earn doing dwayna and all the the other events and in Malchor’s combined, along with all the other activities I mentioned. You are being foolish even to suggest such a thing.
I like how constructive and objective you are.
I don’t know what game you’ve been playing, but the worst loot you can get (apart from the Eye of Zhaitan chain probably) is contested Dwayna’s chain – too little trash mobs, a semi-boss and a boss, boring and fairly long Malchor’s escort.
Contested Lyssa, on the other hand, has 3 seal capture-defence events with tons of trash mobs, and if done one by one (as I always did, and successfully commanded it when felt like it), it provides a large amount of loot. Aaand you get bonus loot if the seal defend events pop up during Lyssa stage – as they usually do and if players are smart enough to attend those. At least that’s what it used to be before the patch.
That said, you’re totally missing the point… When you do event A you get gold and a trait; if you do event B you get gold; if you spend the gold on the trait after it, you just lost.
You are missing the point, and it would help if you bothered to actually read what I wrote,
Here it is again:
“The rewards from doing this one event are certainly not the same as you would earn doing dwayna and all the the other events and in Malchor’s combined, along with all the other activities I mentioned. "
here is a link to all the ML events:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Malchor%27s_Leap
If you insist on saying the Lyssa capture event gives out more rewards than all these other combined events in ML, then I do not know what to say …

Why would I even compare all events in the map to a single event which, when not upscaled by zerg, was challenging, fun, rewarding and pretty fast? You know, like, why would I compare the wage for the whole day’s work to a single simple task of 3 e-mails and a phone call? Or, like, why would I want to do the whole day’s work but exclude a single simple task of 3 e-mails and a phone call?
No, seriously, I’m not trying to discuss anything with you anymore.
The OP has a valid complaint, imo.
Anet put the ability to earn the traits into the game because that’s what people wanted to do. Some people actually want to do that. They have no desire to spend the gold because they want to ‘earn the trait as intended’ so-to-speak.
Yes, events are there to be done. The people defending are playing the game too, as is their right; however, they don’t have to be kittens about it either. There’s no call for that.
Neither side is wrong in this scenario, at least not in how they are choosing to play. Their attitudes on the other hand are a different story.
To satisfy both sides, Anet simply needs to implement the ability to earn the skill via the defend event, as they have done with a couple of others. Of course, they might need to beef up the defend event just a tad to make it comparable to the claiming event.
It would also be nice if you could earn the daily chest via the defend event too, but that’s a different topic.
You and the OP are no better than the people who kick rangers out of dungeon parties because they’re considered useless.
Calls community toxic. Yet is toxic themselves. Trying to force others to play your way to suit your own needs.
Please. I’m not toxic because I will selectively refuse to rez dead people or assist in defense events. Often times stopping to rez dead people is a big risk and you might end up dead yourself if u attempt it so it’s best to ignore certain dead bodies and move on to the next objective.
Failing defense events on purpose is nothing new. Just take a look at Edge of the Mists. And surprise surprise defense events rewards stink compared to offense event rewards in WvW just as in PvE (Lyssa, Grenth, Gates of Arah, etc). There are only a few defense events that are equally as rewarding as offense events that I can think of and all of them are guild challenges (Scratch Sentry Defense, Southsun Crab Toss , Save Our Supplies, and Deep Trouble).
So there is plenty they could do to make the lyssa temple more rewarding or interesting. They could increase the defense rewards and/or add a countdown timer like the temple of grenth defense event and also adjust the difficulty of the event. I’m not suggesting that anyone should have to buy the traits because I killed that risen priestess of lyssa a lot to get all my traits.
So the original poster complained about a group of people constantly defending lyssa. I think another way to work around that is to gather more people onto Malchors Leap to open up another megaserver instance then hop instances.
This thread is hilarious.

I was wondering what happened to the last lyssa defense thread then I remember it got closed

It only shows how the new trait unlocking system along with megaservers in general have some serious issues and kinks that need to be ironed out.
You do know you can buy them straight up for 3 gold and 20 skill points each right?
You don’t say……
So, what’s the problem? You’re complaining that you’re not getting it for free because you don’t want to invest the time waiting for it to open?
You know, it seems to be rare, but there are actually people out there who are willing to play this game the way it’s meant to be played.
It was a poor event choice to lock a trait behind.
Yes, you can pay gold, but they really should have thought this one out. Good idea, poor implementation in this instance.
“A release is 7 days or less away or has just happened within the last 7 days…
These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”

How you think it’s “meant to be played” and how Anet “wants it to be played” are different things.

He did say that people were in chat were saying, “just pay gold noob” so I imagine he does know. But some people would like to earn them by playing the game and not by buying them.
Very much this! I also like the challenge to achieve it myself then buying it with gold. Buying it with gold is the easy way out.
In a game where you can get almost any thing with a swipe of a credit card. That point is moot.
Welcome to Guild Wars 2. You must be new here.
You need skill points AND GOLD – this is just like in GW1 – no difference. It is not a big deal.
This remind me of how new players being punished and being treated as ‘2nd class cititzen’ , ‘outcast’(not saying the Op is new) for just learning, experiencing on their own, which is heartbreaking.
Just yesterday, a guild of 140 members walked away from this game also due to these unjust treatments
“It’s either you play by their rules or die”
As many had already stated, everyone are entitled to have Choices, Not being Punished and Mistreated for choosing to learn, experience on your own.
Seriously,
what is going on with this game?
how is this healthy for the prosperity of the game?
how will toxic design mechanic help the prosperity of the game?
wasn’t your vision for guild wars 2 was about explorations and experiences?’’
when did bribery became part of that vision?
What is going on here Arena.net?

The defend event is one event on a map that has dozens upon dozens of events. At this time, it’s the ONLY event on the map that seriously inconveniences other players. A community minded person would understand that.
God forbid someone did all the other events on the map, and all the events on other maps than picking the one single event people need to unlock a trait or get a daily boss chest.
I’m usually not on the side of farmers, but this is not a player problem. This is a problem Anet set up.
You’re making the assumption they’re picking the event out of a desire to inconvenience, what evidence do you have they’re no just doing it because it’s the event that was nearby when it started or someone called it out and they just automatically went to join? In my experience that’s typically how people go about doing non-world boss events: wander around, do whatever comes up/is called out.
Now to give you a different perspective, there’s actually a valid reason why some people might want to keep defense missions from failing: the bug report forum has fairly regular posts about temple events failing to start for days at a time. Not everyone reads patch notes or fully understand them, so you will still have people who think letting the defense fail is as good as never letting the temple event start. Again it’s just an assumption, but I would rather consider all alternatives than call “griefing” every time something I don’t like happens.
I agree with you about this being a problem that Anet set up though.
So the original poster complained about a group of people constantly defending lyssa. I think another way to work around that is to gather more people onto Malchors Leap to open up another megaserver instance then hop instances.
So you have to beat the megaserver system first before you can beat lyssa?
Seems kinda odd to me. We can now see the problems we ever had with the event rewards (Beside them beinge abysmal low). Offensive events are giving way more reward than defensive events. One might think those events are giving less reward on purpose, hence they fail. Now, with that much players on the map, even those unrewarding events do not fail, thus you wont get to the rewarding events.

No, it’s just a temporary workaround to the OP’s complaint about perceived “griefers” until someone fixes the main problem with lyssa or the dreadful new trait unlocking system …

God what an awful attitude….Seriosuly..that’s NOT THE POINT! ..and if you lack the good grace and smarts to understand that, then it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if you were a griefer too.
I agree. If you don’t want to buy the traits and you have the option to get them through an event, why should you be forced to buy them because other players are being ignorant pricks?
You should be able to play the game the way you want, not the way others want you to play it.
I don’t suggest you waste your time trying to reason with these people but if you have as much time on your hands as I do you can always try to pick them apart until they find something better to do.

Maybe some people would be fine wasting 3-8 hours standing around doing absolutely nothing in a game, but some people just don’t have that time, or, even more miraculously, don’t find it fun to be standing in one spot waiting for an event that probably will never happen.
Point is, people shouldn’t have to no-life it to make it to a Lyssa spawn. I haven’t seen her spawn since the patch, and I’ve been in the zone every day. I’m not in any hurry to get the traits, but I did used to farm her and the other temple bosses daily, and I miss that.
What’s the point of even giving us a choice between paying money or doing an event to get a trait if we’re never going to be able to do the event, anyway?
I did the Lyssa event twice to unlock GM traits. Once with My Mesmer, Once with My thief. Not sure what you mean " never going to be able to anyway" she shows up. Unfortunately, people respond more to polite requests than to yelling and screaming.
Some people explain" we need to let the temple be overrun so that the High Pristess of Lyssa can be summoned, then when we take back the temple…we get the GM trait." BOTH times that people asked in this way, we succeeded…
There were times people said things Like " hey Noob, leave the risen alone, what the eff wrong with you? I want My GM trait."
I am sure we all know what type of responces that player got? and Big surprise… the event was defended and Lyssa did Not appear.
Sometimes it’s luck, sometimes it’s a request for courtesy.
