I left the game a while ago, the guild I was in kind of self destructed primarily due to the fact we had fought so hard from the start to make our server number 1 but then all the other guilds left that server to go make other servers more competitive and well they killed our morale and we pretty much died in guild wars 2.

Now I’m returning and I’ve linked up with a former guild and want to join them, but now I find while the transfer was free before it’s now something like £20 for the gems to be able to do this. That seems an inordinately amount, I get the reason for the cost but it still seems a lot, and kind of punishes those who joined the game later or took a break from the game and want to join their friends.

I’d be fine starting a character from level 1 but the way the system works stops that from happening, so now I’m kind of stuck on a server where I know no one and those I do no I can only guest transer to and even then I couldn’t do the pvp or wvwvw.

It’s an appropriate amount. It prevents large guilds from leaving servers frequently and messing up the rankings, as well as spying. The alternative is to have server transfers free – and that’s something that would just be terrible for WvW.

It’s your fault for taking such a long leave of absence – Anet said well before release that server transfers would be paid in the near future. They even gave 2-4 weeks advance before they introduced the fee.

And yes, you absolutely can delete all you characters and still be able to transfer for free. That’s your best alternative.

Otherwise, pay for the transfer costs or ask your new guild for loan/donation.

I had a friend transfer recently and it cost them 62G to makes the Gems needed, providing your not pushing a legendary just do what they did, sell all your T6 mats/lodestones etc and change the gold out to gems and transfer over, the new update has seen more T6 and lodestones dropping.

I know your pain. My guild self-imploded in a similar way. They got all of us to move from a tier 1 server to the lowest ranking server in the game. No problems it was a fun move and not too bad of a cost. However after the move we went from a PvX guild to a very strict WvW guild and it alienated a whole set of users (The ones I played with the most). Even though I loved going to WvW with the group, I just didn’t like being ‘forced’ by threats of being kicked if I didn’t go to WvW.
So the small sub-section moved again to a mid tier server. Cost quite a bit more to move that time. Now the 20 or so people are nervous that they don’t know anyone on this new server and that it may be a mistake to have moved, etc. I can’t move again. I can’t afford to move again because if I do I’m going back to the original server I started on first day of release. That would be the most expensive move of all.
Anet could not trivialize the cost because people would server hop if the cost didn’t prohibit it. I just wish it was a tad bit lower because any more moves and I could have had a second copy of the game at the cost it was at release.
EDIT: And for what it’s worth even if my friends decide to move I may just stay where I am. I am meeting new people and have enjoyed playing on a server where it’s not over-crowded nor desolate.

I guess I could delete them all, I only have one max level character, he has the first tier of the yellow gear you can get at max level the vigil stuff and also the asura dungeon helmet.

I never considered deleting them all before though and doing it that way, seems like throwing away a lot of time and effort though including any gold I do get from selling, as far as I know you don’t get to keep it if everything is deleted.

Before the patch you could keep everything in the bank and it would be there (of course your soulbound gear would not work)

But now with the wallet, you can delete everything and you currencies would still be there. It’s just all your armor and items would be gone. But karma, badges, tokens and gold are saved.

Lvling to 80 is pretty easy, especially if you do it now and head over to the Pavillion to farm. Then you can also gain an easy 10 levels for just 5 gold by crafting with food. You can also get another 20 levels by paying 10-15g for other crafting professions.

And if all you do is WvW, running with zergs chain capping stuff will help as well.

Wanting to transfer as a single person should not be as much as “a whole guild”.

Goodness… people like you want to make the rest of us feel bad because we have real lives and care about real people more than a game?

If there are tradeable items such as materials that you want to take with you, you could mail them to a friend that you trust on the server that you are going to transfer to.

This is kind of a necroed thread, but…to dispel any misconceptions, if one deletes all characters to transfer servers at no cost, all non-soulbound items put in the bank, including crafting mats, etc. transfer with you.

The only things that do not transfer are Guild items (influence, upgrades, etc.), and soul-bound items (which will transfer, but will be unusable).
