Please post your opinion about Shatterer’s update.

Well you pretty much sum it up.

I mean yes it has now this regenerate mechanic but yeh its not really that challenging, just split on the crystals and bomb your ccs and you can dmg him again.

It just delays the time until you can loot^^

I was kinda expectin some hard content like tequatl and we will totally fail at 95% but ok that was kinda underwhelming.

The blog post ANet came out with was pretty clear that this encounter was only getting a slight change to make it more fun, not harder. I have no idea why people expected this to be like the teq revamp.

It’s nowhere near how revamped Teq used to be or TT. Yea, now it’s not an afk boss, at least for now, but it’s … it have slightly more fuss about it now, like say, Claw of Jormag, but there’s nothing hardcore or even hard about it. We killed it and i hnc why we needed launch pads even, there was an airborne phase? Don’t think so. Doesn’t require knowledge, organisation, preparation, the only thing it requires is to not be asleep and preferably be present.

I waited for new pre-events or new events during the central event (with Shatterer) as with Tequatl.

I’m a little bit disappointed.

Thank you so much for the improvements to this dragon event. I just finished my crystal encasement segment needed for the Bifrost staff and it did not take long to get it.

Plus I managed to obtain a few other steps for the new Shatterer achievements I found listed.

Based upon the way it used to be, I found this a great improvement. It also is zone appropriate but the entire fight was awesome. I want to pat everyone’s back who worked to improve this event.
Thank you!!!

It is very possible a moderator changed that title. I saw quite a few Anet tags out at the event today when I did it…so its possible they were mingling to see how folks reacted and to see if any bugs showed up that might have stalled the new event mechanics.

Personally, I had a great deal of fun and found the jump pads enormously entertaining. We can glide in Central Tyria now. I also noted that we are provided a new UI with 3 skills to use at this event…nice touch.

I really LOVE new Shatter. I think in terms of mechanics it is suprisingly amazing.

The only thing I would add would be:
For each X players downed or killed (10) spawn a regeneration crystal, possibly at the location of dead players.

I think it would add some flavor and add that unique aspect of boss fights – unpredictability and skill factor.

Tequatl for example feels same each time and dont have that flavor

I think that what ANet give us now is OPIUM for the masses…

Concretes, ANet, concretes!!!

WvW died, PvP nerfed. But you can’t see real problems and you are fascinated with flying in Tyria: “oh, it is amazing” “oh it is fantastic.” “I can fly, I can fly, ANet change my life!”
Yeah it was very good idea to make it but always miss “cheery on top”. For newcomers it is fantastic update but for advanced players it is not what they hoped (for example me).

I enjoyed the revised Shatterer. Lots more to do – I liked the variety and ran all over to see what I could do. So refreshing to not stand and whack-a-boss. I do think there will be an issue with not being able to get the turret achievement easily since folk did not seem to want to give them up.

I hope Anet continually revises the bosses to keep them fresh. This was fun and I definitely want to fight the Shatterer again.

I really enjoyed it. My only issues were that the jumping pads seemed a bit laggy and sometimes didn’t provide any bombs, and that the breakbars were all WAY overtuned, like we barely put a dent in the main one before he took off.

It felt a bit flat for me. Certainly an improvement, but also didn’t feel dangerous enough for a dragon fight. Move, dodge and shoot, the only frantic bit was the ccing of the crystals, which was well done.

Whilst it didn’t need to be of Teq difficulty, it never felt like it could ever fail or have much of the interesting mechanics Anet has been doing a better job of implementing in its fight. Perhaps more could be made of the lightning and also the crystallising people. Perhaps the gliding could have been more crucial.

An improvement and much needed, but much less than I had personally hoped. It was well received in map chat though.

I think they did a great job on this revamp. Kudos ANET. What I like is that they have not made it an event that players of zone level are not excluded but rather can join in the fight. Wayfarers has Maw, Blaze hkittenterer, Sparkfly has Tequatyl, Frostgorge has Claw and players leveling in those ranges can enjoy fights challenging for their level. People complaining its not challenging enough have harder content in HoT. ANET did not exclude leveling players. I enjoy the fight. I look forward to the fight again.

Sometimes I think those of us with geared 80’s forget that content is not always meant just for us. I like there are world bosses for all levels.

Thanks ANET for keeping the zone bosses doable for players leveling in the zones the events occur.

Hey,

So I mentioned it in the blog and a couple press interviews, but just to reiterate it here, it was never our intention to make succeeding The Shatterer event exceptionally difficult. We want players coordinating with only map chat, with strangers, to be able to complete the event. That said, some of the achievements, like the “Smash the Dragon” one (complete The Shatterer event without him ever taking off IE break him every time his break bar activates) will take more coordination. It is harder to break him than it is to kill him. It is kitten harder to break him every time than it is to kill him.

Also, keep in mind that you guys are playing it the day it comes out, with upwards of 100 players. Maps are consistently full, which makes me super happy to see, but is not going to be the reality of the fight in 6 months or 2 years down the road. Yes, the event, mobs and breakbars all scale, but there are some things that are just going to be inherently easier with a massive army of players. The biggest one being, you guys are going to be able to spread out and kill the pulsating crystals with greater ease than a group of, say, 25 players, even though the breakbars and health of those crystals scale. Same with keeping Adds down, or just general DPS.

I was in the map with the first kill, and there was ~9 min left on the timer when he died. What wasn’t as obvious was the Shatterer was also less than 30 seconds away from entering a second Pulsating Crystal Node phase when he was killed, which would have added a good chunk of health back to it and stretched the fight out longer. The DPS vs Crystal healing Cooldown time is a big element of the fight. Out DPSing the healing, and CCing the crystals down quickly gives more player control over the length and difficulty of the fight than, say, just adding a ton of health on the boss. The fact we killed it before the second crystal phase started was a testament to the group. The fact that we CCed the crystals so quickly the one time they did show up was, again, a testament to the group. Yes, the sheer size of that group certainly helped, and I can pretty much guarantee that will be more challenging with, say, 30 players instead of 125, but we earned that victory! Don’t sell yourselves short on that.

You say that Andrew, but old Shatterer regularly had bulging zerg groups and this fight will get easier as ppl learn new methods. If it is being beaten so easily and so utterly now, it will actually be worse ( easier) long term. That is something we have learned with almost every encounter since launch and the map will still be full long term. Achievements, dailies, collections…they all help ensure that as you increase your new playerbase.

Great job in finding the time to get this update in, it was needed and it clearly resulted from years of feedback, but I personally think it needed just a bit more challenge to give it uniqueness.

Andrew, the fight I was in today was so much fun. I want to thank you all at Anet for doing this.

I was really enjoying the jump pads with the skills options, but I kept looking around for updrafts so I could at least stop falling into his face when I got close enough to use those skills.

I have a suggestion, however. Please add updrafts in Central Tyria so that we can at least extend our glides a bit like we can in HoT.

I found it a little underwhelming. As did most other people I guess. I was in a full map of happy, excited people all counting the minutes till he spawned which was great! And then when it was over, there was no “oh that was cool!” or anything of the like just, “oh, is that it?” The rework is nice but with the mixture of lag and his low health it just seems a little… meh. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy as hell that an old boss got a tune up I just feel like it could have done with a little extra something.
