We’re all obviously quite fond of gw2, otherwise we wouldn’t be playing and we wouldn’t be taking the time to contribute to the forums. So let’s start off on that positive note.

As much as I love the game though, I have serious concerns with how Anet has handled player feedback, and their communication. When it comes to certain important issues with the game, they simply will not respond under any circumstances. When it comes to trivial issues, you’ll see them posting a few hours after a thread goes up. I can overlook them not responding if they were indeed making progress on addressing the issues, and just trying to avoid the flaming/bad PR that comes from controversial topics on the forums – but for a wide berth of issues there hasn’t been any progress made, nor have we gotten any response.

I’d post the laundry list of threads that have cluttered the forums (all on pretty much the same topics) because we can never get an official response to the problem (that’s meaningful, if we get one at all), so it just keeps getting brought up again and again.

i.e. DR and loot rates. Anet started their own thread almost 2 months ago, it’s grown to 30 pages long, with real data in there that they requested, and they haven’t said a word. Not even a thank you for asking players to do a job they themselves should be doing. If you look at the past threads over the last few months, people just keep creating new ones on DR and loot issues and they just get ignored. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Share-your-data-about-perceived-strange-drop-behavior-here
- as a sidebar, how long ago was it that they said vets and champs would be guaranteed to drop loot? Still no answers…

i.e. The economy and pre-cursors. How many times do we have to see new threads pop up about these problems before something is said on forums, or put into a patch. It’s absurd. I’ve already made my twilight, but I care because when this many people are that frustrated, they leave the game. Instead of trying to lessen the frustration and open up communication on the issue, Anet remains silent. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what happens when someone has been frustrated for months and the only people that can provide answers are no where to be found. They’ll just leave.

While the laundry list can go on and on, I’ll leave it at those two (most frequent) issues so this doesn’t become an even larger wall of text.

No one is asking for Anet to respond to every thread all day every day. But I can’t be the only one worried about the state of management when they don’t respond to their own thread after 45k views and 30 pages of posts (which would probably be even larger had it not been stickied up at the top where no one looks imo).

Threads need to ‘promote constructive discussion’ on these forums or they get deleted. Hopefully this doesn’t get deleted, and hopefully Anet will take a good hard look at their communication over the past few months. Maybe we’ll have better luck asking them about their communication instead of asking about the same specific in-game issues over and over again.

Actually Colin posted in that thread with an update. It’s not Arenanet’s fault that you fail to do your due diligence and read his response.

Agreed on all of it.

I even asked an employee in-game who answered a couple of silly questions. I asked about the vet drop thing. He took off in a flash.

But then if that sort of life is what you wish, you may grow up to be a fish.

Anet’s silence about this it talks for itself. I mean they don’t explain what is happening, Loot changed some time ago, I remember before even droping Lion Keys, or exotics… For me it wont drop an exotic in PVE for about 1.5months.

I don’t know if it is suposed to be this way, but it forces us to go grind and farm because there is no other way to get the things we want/need.

You’re right, there was one response, 10 days ago. I started only periodically checking that thread because it went ignored for so long. Nevertheless, the point is, it took 2 months to get that ‘one’ response, and all the response says is “we’ve found nothing wrong. It’s in your heads, x-files level of conspiracy. We’ll look into it…” They flat out said in patch notes that vets and champs will be guaranteed to drop loot, and they clearly don’t. Is that x-files conspiracy too?

I’m glad I waited 2 months for that, I feel so informed and relieved. All the frustrated players still making new threads on loot and DR and rewards can now be ignored. It’s obviously not an ongoing problem or anything.

Maybe you need to adjust your expectations? It takes time to collect the data, and you need large amounts of it. Ever heard of small sample size? Terrible to make conclusions on it.

Their communication has vastly improved, and I’m really happy with their statements lately. Especially considering they act like humans, making funny and personal posts too. Not like there’s always a lawyer standing behing them, telling them what they’re allowed to post. They still have to be careful though, because everything everybody says will potentially used against him later, and if it was said months ago, doesn’t matter. Just look at the topic of new equipment tiers. It’s the ungrateful community’s fault they cannot be more open. Also, continuously attacking them, for example John in the BLTP threads, won’t improve the situation. Be glad he keeps posting at all. People’s double standard moral is really annoying here.

I disagree…nothing terrible bout the obvious. Even though I doubt the “small sample size”, it doesn’t matter when notes said “guaranteed” and even one occurrence happens. If it happened and nothing is done to correct it the the guarantee means bupkis.

The most interesting response was from Jason King:
“Hey everyone, I’m here to help clear up some of the confusion on this issue!
First, our apologies for the inaccurate response: your system clock does not affect your loot drops (sorry, conspiracy theorists). We’ve corrected this information for future responses.
If you’re not receiving loot from a champ/vet, it’s most likely because you’re not getting kill credit. We’re currently working on some improvements to this so that it will be easier to get rewards when you kill a creature.
Thank you for bringing this up!”

^This after people saying they were solo’ing the vets/champs. The questions arose about kill credit possibly not working properly and silence ensued, then closure of the thread.
It doesn’t take a genius to surmise that maybe kill credit isn’t working for more than just vets/champs for some people. And I have hope Anet has a point to start from when ‘looking into the issue’.
Just to test the theory I’m deleting my low lvl engineer and creating a dps build warrior. We have already asked that the combat log switch be re-enabled so that we can provide the concrete data they require… more silence.
The key here is better communication being needed. A prolonged silence is like a kick in the face. It’s obvious that PR is very important but at the same time it wouldn’t be so hard for a dev working on the issues to come into these forums and make suggestions to test or just converse ‘carefully’ about the subjects periodically.

I think my point is being confused. While I personally think there’s a problem with the current loot and reward system, my ‘expectations’ are that when you have dozens of new threads on the same issue, it shouldn’t take 2 months to get out a response. A simple, ‘thanks for giving us what we asked for, we’re reviewing your feedback’ would go such a long way in calming the flaming masses – if they did so jeez… maybe once every 2 weeks? That kind of post takes 2 seconds to write, isn’t even substantial, there’s no real info in it, but it’s just good public relations. Gamers are incredibly fickle, that’s no secret. When it takes months to get any response at all… well we can see how that’s worked out.

We don’t have to talk about loot/rewards, I just picked the 2 topics mentioned in the OP because those are the most prolific on the forums.

Take all the threads on passionflowers if you’d like. People have been constantly complaining about the rarity and price and how many it requires to make a set of gear that requires them. No response. Nadda.

Then i suggest to use iphones instead of calculators… or no wait, you are fooled. It will take 10 minutes to write a script that will constanly spawn then kill a mob, it can do it faster than 1000000 players simultaneously. They just lie to us. It is impossible to be SO slow.

An MMO is complex and many problems only appear when a large amount of people does unforeseen things in different places. You cannot simulate human behavior. The only way to test such things thoroughly is on a live system or pre-patch on a beta system (which should exist).
