Skill Lag is Killing Me - Literally!
What you’re describing is connection latency, check if the rest of your WvW raid is having the same issues when you experience it. If the majority (There’ll always be a few playing on dial-up) are not suffering it then the issue is entirely on your end and is not something Arenanet can “address”
Performing a ping test and tracert with the arenanet servers will help verify whether latency is the issue. If the ping rate is more than 150-200ms or you are seeing “spikes” of high high values or lost packets, then latency is almost certainly the cause, in which case you’ll want to contact your service provider and report it.
As MMO’s go GW2 has extremely good latency handling – try playing Star Trek Online with a less than perfect connection and you’ll be spitting blood, spending minutes at a time rubber banding all over the place

Over the few last days, there was definitely really worse skill lag in WvW. It affects even the speed of the shortbow. It was like 10s delay for skills. It was during rushing the castle stonemist.. well pretty clear but the saddest or worst part was the one fraction was running in circles because they had also skill lag and so nobody got anything done. And the shortbow had a 3s delay between every arrow. It was hilarious, hilariously bad.

This isn’t a latency issue, it’s a server issue. It’s already been mentioned by a dev that this is an issue pertaining to the ability queue of the area getting overfilled – I think this was mentioned in one of the recent culling threads where the devs explained that fixing culling wasn’t going to fix the skill lag. They need either better software, hardware, or both.
I get this too everyday now, especially in World bosses, skills just flicker then stop… people in my guild all complain of it and everyone in teamspeak is experiencing it as well..as i’ve asked..
So, I’m not the only one to have heal skill lag. It’s gotten my ele killed twice in PvE now. My ele seems to have some skill lag as well concerning the attunement skills. It’s not bad enough to make me quit yet, but I hope Anet is looking at this. I have decent internet service btw, and GW2 typically runs 55-60 fps on my computer.

Population spikes related to latency at the server?
Aren’t we glad they didn’t rush out guesting to appease the waaaah-crew.
It may just be that your original statement was wrong.
Please try again.
Although I have not got the best ISP, just the best of what is offered in my area, I highly doubt it is a product of latency on my end. As I stated I never used to have this problem and could play the game with graphics maxed out except for some of the massive zerg fights in WvWvW. At that point I would have to knock graphics back a bit but those times were an issue with the 570 nvidia cards I was using. I just recently upgraded to two 660 ti nividia cards which seemed to have helped that issue but there is nothing I can do for the lag in skills.
That stated however if anyone knows the address to do a tracert back to arenanet I will give that a shot the next time I am suffering and see where it leads.
What is with this? in WvW borderland me and one invader. 3-4 second delay in every action. I see enemy flying and for myself half of the skills not activate. Thus game is unplayable. Before i had 0 problem with 30 vs 30 zergs. Whats causing this?
Yes I would like to know what’s causing this as well. Particularly in the last month or 2, world events like Jormag became unplayable both due to lag and skill lag, now its mainly skill lag causing problems. My skill lags aren’t just 3-4 seconds its more like several minutes. On an odd occasion i can actually do these events without problems, but that is rare. Most times all i can do is stand there and watch the show after each skill i click on just keeps rotating for what seems like an eternity and sometimes they never fire off before the event is finished.
This is really frustrating as I’ve just invested into a new Graphic card and my frame rate during these times is 25-35 yet i cannot fire off skills.
Please, please fix this problem.
P.S. for those who may insinuate its my internet connection, my connection is still the same as it was a month ago or 2 months ago when i never had issues with the world events, but in the last couple of months things have gotten worse and worse.
I get this now and again. I have a pretty good connection as well. Makes the game feel cheap sometimes. I remember having this issue in Beta as well.
It may be user-end latency issues in individual cases.
That said, it is also an ArenaNet recognized issue on their end.
Also want to say that it doesnt necessarily “do nothing.” The skills DO tend to blink at you! Almost.. tauntingly.
Oh! This skill? The one thats blinking? This is the one you want? Are you sure? Ill blink it a couple more times just to MAKE SURE this is what you want! blink blink Are you sure this is the right skill to use here? Like, really totally sure? blink blink See, player, you dont need to heal when you are dead!
I tell you this now, just as a warning.. this was foretold in the movie Terminator. This is the rise of the machines. The.. Skillpocalypse.

Though I do have this issue during WvW zerg meet & greet + at large PvE events…
I think you meant, wink wink in a coy teasing manner.
Or maybe not.

Hmm, in the continuing personification of this issue, wink wink would be more appropriate I suppose. :P
I did mean blink though. While the skill wont go off, the user client does seem to recognize a command has been given and “blinks” (its more of a ripple, I guess). Skill never goes off though.
I still say its Sky*net*. It is surely no coincidence the company supporting this game is called Arena*Net*.

On a more serious note;
I do have some pretty big concerns about this, especially with the removal of culling. I am not on a high tier wvw server (Darkhaven) and I am getting this skill lag constantly. While I am REALLY excited about the removal of culling (makes me regret deleting my thief a little actually), I am concerned it will only exacerbate this already game-breaking problem. One step at a time though.
