Go to the TP and buy a Feathered set /vestment-gloves etc, at least on the sylvari, since i havent tested on other races (female) its pretty skimpy, currently using it via transmutes on my pre-80 ele…Also the blue version is lvl 75/ green is 80…So you can use normal transmutes via the blues

Still think that revealing armour looks ridiculous when it’s too much.

I’m not against seeing skin, cleavage, stomach, underboobs and such, it’s just that it looks ridiculous when fighting against big enemies.

They rather save “skimpy” look for Mesmer, Elementalist and Necromancer.

Light armor = almost only skimpy sets for females
Medium armor = all trenchcoats and nearly no skimpyness to choose from (aside from from a some human and norn cultural)
Heavy armor = most sets are actual armor looking but some skimpy options are there.

As a sylvari ranger I am rather sad that there is like… ONE option in the entire game for me to get something that shows the glow on my back. I have this amaizing glow but pretty much never get to see it.

My conclusion:
Some more covering sets for the light armor people.
Some more skimpy sets for the medium armor people.
Possibly a bit more of both for heavy armor people.

And make both options for males too. Male sylvari got glowy backs too

That’s not really so IMO. Unless your definition of skimpy is very broad, the balance between skimpy and more modest light armour is pretty close to 50/50.

Definitely yes on those points of Sylvari and Charr wanting to show off there patterns. It’s really annoying to make a character with a Sylvari with an awesome glow or Charr with a cool fur pattern and have it be covered by armour.

I can’t find any cool medium armour to show off my male sylvari’s glow. I did go with the pit fighter (like someone mentioned) for my Charr to be able to see his cool fur pattern.

We do need good options both ways though. Like many others I don’t want to see this turn into Tera. If someone wants skimpy clothes let them have skimpy. If someone doesn’t want skimpy they should have good options too. I couldn’t even play a female character in Tera because there were NO options that didn’t look ridiculous.

Well not played light armor class much yet so I admit I can be mistaken here. Just see people that do play light classes complain about it.
In that case…. just give medium armor that same balance.

Disagree. Honestly, the way GW2 has it set up so far is totally on the ball.

I’ll call it the grill-to-skin ratio.

Light armor classes have the most revealing armor. They’re supposed to be at the back, not up in anyone’s grill, and they can definitely get away with showing skin.

Medium armor classes, I’ll allow it too. Arguably, thieves operate in grill territory, but… Whatever. I don’t like it that much, but I can live with it.

But, heavy armor? Definitely not. I’ve been really pleased with the fact that GW2 has no metal bikinis, and judging by the armors of GW1, we aren’t going to get any. But seriously, anyone suggesting that warrior or guardian women should be getting up in enemy grills with an exposed midriff/cleavage window/etc is insane. I don’t care if it’s a “fantasy universe”, you can only suspend your disbelief so far, and armor is meant to be protective. Those skin zones just scream “stab me!”. May as well be going into combat naked.

All of those female human thieves and rangers aren’t saving up for the T3 cultural because of it’s practicality.

Same goes for winged armor. I’ve seen people craft the level 60 set just so they can transmute it to a new lvl 2 character.

I think there are and will be plenty of options both ways.

ha, i bought the duelist exotic chest and legs and Transmuted to a brand new thief.
Honestly it’s the ONLY medium armor I can stand inthe entire game judging by the sPvP preview lockers. Although I do like the Vigil legs as well, bu the rest of vigil is butt ugly.

If they got rid of the stupid trenchcoat theme ON EVERY SINGLE PIECE, I might have a few more options though…
Here’s to hoping for expansion material.

I don’t really care to be honest here… I play with all male characters… Why? Cause I have a fiancee who’s hotter than anything you can dress up in the game… I will take real boobs over pixelated ones any day of the week…

Honestly… If video games today weren’t essentially softcore porn, maybe it would get some dudes out from behind their monitors and into the real world…

Go level up your social skills to level 80

I did the socializing thing ALOT when i was younger, and I learned one thing. The human race isn’t worth socializing with. 99% of them are kitten that I wouldn’t waste a second thought on. After many MANY years I have a VERY few close friends that I trust with my life. And I no longer have the need, or patience, to weed through the rest to find any more.

Also, your cause and effect doesn’t hold water. First video games are no where near softcore porn.
Second I could just as easily say if the world had less stupid people in it it might get more gamers out from behind their monitors. (and probably be more accurate than your assertation)

I disagree. it looks silly to watch people in warzones get shot by guns, canons and fireballs and walk away with barely a scratch.
But given that is the case, wearing a full covering shirt of CLOTH or even leather certainly isn’t helping your odds of survival when getting shot but any of those. Even full plate wouldn’t stand up to most of that and even be a liability against things like fire and electric attacks.
Hence the reason our soldiers don’t wear them today. Their basic uniforms are made to protect them mostly from the environment. And unless we can get balistic ceramic/kevlar armor in game your point is null and void. And even that is only put ovver the vital areas.
Also, the greeks and Romans seemed to do fine wearing little armor. They even managed to take over most of the known world at their time.

It doesn’t have to look like a swimsuit or exotic-dancer outfit.

But really, take a look at the pix from any red-carpet fashion thing. People do not wear hugely poofed out skirts, or trenchcoats.

Their has to be some town clothing swimsuits and dancer outfits. With diving and dance abilities.

Have you been to Southsun cove? There is a very cute and sexy tang top a female human npc is wearing… we need that for town clothes or a toggle for our naked wear.

i’m a fan of the oversized female norn,
i really like the cultural armor for them,
but…
whoever sized the models forgot to do so for the oversized body type,
so depending on the armour,
either the leggings or the chest clip horribly and make the entire purchase pointless and unwearable.

so my oversized female norn warrior doesnt wear any leggings, as none fit without clipping.

and my oversized female norn ranger doesnt wear a chest piece for the same badly clipping reason.

if the modellers went back to those armours and actually made them the correct size,
my avatars would appear less skimpy.

this problem isnt restricted to norn only either,
some of the human female body shapes have also been wrongly sized and show clipping (not great when bright yellow clad buttocks poke through your non-yellow leggings constantly).

Wife: Are you sure you aren’t playing a prostitute?

I’d say the armour is skimpy enough. I have no objection to more options, but on the scale of realistic vs. “pretty”, I’d say that the artists came down on the side of pretty.

I like my characters to be attractive. I like to put them in attractive clothing. I often feel that less is more…
Perhaps I am being premature; but several games, have had a very noisy groups of prudes. Being so vocal and outspoken they get attention, and as the level cap raised or new content was added, the female armor became more and more Concealing. I do not want that happening here!
The problem is many of us just play the game and simply ignore the opinions of people we disagree with. “They are crazy, who would listen to them?” If you don’t speak up, then all anet sees is a bunch of noisy prudes, who have no apparent opposition within the community…

Silence is often taken as a sign of agreement…

A simple post consisting of a quote and an, “I disagree.” is enough.

If you don’t like a trend then speak up and be counted. No need to elaborate or defend your position. No need to answer a call out by the opposition. Your preference is justified because it is your preference.

I don’t want female humanoids to look like blocky robots, nuns, or bigfoot.
By all means let us continue to have large and interesting shaped cleavage windows, bare midriffs, and eye high skirts! Especially in new content!

Agree or disagree?

Disagree, in many games, both the physical appearance plus most of the clothing/armour looks like it has been designed by a teenage boy going through puberty that has sex on his mind 24 hours a day and thinks females should ideally look like they are standing a in Reeperbahn window or worse still in some games the races (or least some of them) and their get-ups look like they’ve asked a paedophile to design them (whatever that race is in Tera).

GW2 is nice change from that.

Ya and what truth is there to marketing? none? Truth is that a normal male and I use this term loosely are attracted to women. Normally. In real life that strong hero archtype is very attractive to men who are looking for a woman with brains and abilities. However the 3d models in games are not actually women they are pixels and as such they are just objects that are to be manipulated for entertainment purposes. Men also like this too.

I would never wear those things in real life, but I love it on my toon, cause hell… she got the body for it and she is so adorable.
You will likely find that some of the skimpy sets are infact designed by female designers, not teenage boys -_-

No one wants exclusively one or the other in the game either. Just want to options. And atm there is a grand total of 1 option for medium armor sylvari (think there is some cultural armor for norn and human). Personally I am not even asking for like… super skimpy, just want to show that amaizing glow on her back. Not quite fair that only heavy armor and light armor sylvari can show that glow. I’m fine with either, assuming I have options for both. Its’ not even necessarily from an angle of perversion either; some races are pretty neat looking when they are naked. Charr have interesting fur patterns and naked sylvari are damn near walking art with the intricate leaf designs of their skins and bioluminescence. I purposefully made my female sylvari an elementalist because they had skimpier clothing which allowed me to show off more of her body.

On the other hand, I really don’t want this to become Tera Online, where every article of clothing is so hyper-sexualized that I feel ridiculous playing any female. That’s actually a large reason why I quit playing that game, prudish as it may be.

Generally speaking I want my armor to look like as though it was designed with the chief goal being to stop pointy impalement things from impaling me. I don’t mind a few Conan the Barbarian style pieces as even those had a practical combat application, but I think armor should look the part.

Leather and Cloth armor gets more of a pass in terms of stylization vs practicality because cloth is already inherently missing the point of defense, and leather is supposed to be a sort of happy medium between impalement prevention and easy movement.

Overall I’m pretty happy with the armor models currently available, so I’m not particularly invested in what future things they add, skimpy or not.

Don’t be obtuse. Sexualized images evoke sexual reactions in people be that a video game, a billboard or TV programs.

Sex sells. Didn’t you hear?

So long as you understand that what you’re seeing is a fantasy and keep the two separate from each other you’ll live.

As for sexualized pieces of gear? Who cares, its a fantasy game. Sexualize the male characters more than they already are (protip: Every male doesn’t have a 6pack, bulging muscles and calves the the size of a torso) to compensate need be.

I would like that some pieces are a bit less revealing but the heavy armor sets already seem to understand that. Sometimes you just want your character to look like a walking battletank and being fully covered in armor does that.

What annoys me the most is medium armor.

The fact that every single (with maybe 2 exceptions) medium set in the game is a variation of “trench coat”, ensures I can never invest much into any of the medium armor professions. It bugs me to no end.

A game where supposedly the treadmill is purely cosmetic, there sure are serious limitations to how your toon looks.

Not to mention the kitten and crotch flaps galore, and how much more skin male armor versions cover.

Disagree, there is already enough of it, armor is supposed to protect, not make you look like a kitten. Males get plenty of coverage no reason why females should wear less in the same armor set. That is immature as hell.

If there is going to be skimpy clothes, the same set should offer the same solution for both genders, and not have a female version look kittenty and cut-out.

P.S. I love fully covered female armors, those are just kitten

Thank god I wear heavy armor, although the unnecessarily exposed skin on female characters that does not appear on their male counterparts is rather silly, considering the frequency of it. Another example of how we’re utterly desensitized to the idea of a double standard, I guess.

I strongly disagree, sure, guess they can add some town clothes like that but I for one was glad to see that female armor is actually armor, nothing makes me roll my eyes more then the skimpy “armor” you see for female characters in many games, same with high heels. Tera being the most extreme example, so over the top I view that game as a parody! :P

When it is like that it just become so obvious that they target young teens and give them something to drool about.

I want a hero and want my character to look like one.

I tend to agree with this. Catering to the male gaze and creating unrealistic “armor” has grown ridiculous in popular culture. It’s armor….designed for protection. Less is not more when it comes to that. I am sure there are some dating sims…or IMVU out there if you wanna run around scantily clad.

That being said…if they make male characters have equally revealing outfits (and I mean it…if some chick is running around in a thong, then a guy should be running along side in a bannana hammock), then it wouldn’t be as bad. I’d still take it a lot less seriously and would likely grow bored with the game.

Fancy/cool-looking protective gear that has a smidgeon of realism to it is better imho. But then again, I am not an adolescent boy, so what do I know?

You know what bugs me more than “skimpy and sexy” vs. “bulky and concealing”? More than “practical as defensive gear”? Having clothing options appropriate to the climate. I get sympathetic chills for my Mesmer in her Masquerade gear when she goes into the Shiverpeaks, and when my Warrior shambles on down to the Maguuma Jungle area, I start to sweat thinking about how awful all that heavy plate would be in that coastal humidity. The problem of course being that keeping multiple armor skins around for different environments is entirely impractical inventory-wise, and not something enough other players give a crap about…

What I really want is the City of Heroes costume system back. I really miss swapping my appearance independent of my combat stats.

Cause they aren’t out in a kittening battlefield, in stabbing distance of someone else who is looking to stab.

It has nothing to do with prudence, and everything to do with being reasonable and practical. As I said before, while it’s a fantasy game, you can only suspend your disbelief so far. No matter how you slice it, a girl character charging into close-range combat with a metal bikini is just ridiculous.

I tend to prefer keeping my characters in more concealing armours; however, this is not because I am prude. (I’m actually anything but)
Rather, while I would not as such call myself an RPer, I do RP to a certain point and for me, personally, I like my characters to appear reasonably well protected.

Nonetheless, aesthetics are always subjective and I don’t have an issue with those who prefer the skimpier designs. I would just like to see the range of choices expanded so that most tastes are adequately represented.
