Heck, almost all released ascended items are rated lvl 82, & I’m currently equipping them.

The rumor started from the level 100 test ring found in the game files. A dev confirmed they used items such as those to test the scaling system.

The only thing that holds true is that one day, the level cap will most likely be increased, since they have confirmed that not only was the game designed to allow it, but also that they would like to do it. Since ArenaNet has chosen the route of having many smaller levels rather than a few longer levels, the first level cap increase will most likely come as something like 20, rather than say 5. They may even do something like 80, it all depends on how big expansions are.

I would definitely not like a level increase since that would mean having to farm a new set of gear for every one of my characters again.

unless if they upgraded the current top armor to stay top armor. Meaning lvl 80 exotic armor would become lvl X armor

Looking at all that lovely blank space around the existing map area, there is no doubt in my mind that one of the options they have left open for themselves is to raise the level cap.

Exactly why they would increase the level cap- you would have to farm again in order to keep up with the Joneses.

Of course, as it will take me about 5 years or so just to equip my current toons with ascended stuff I don’t think they will ever get that far, never mind levelling them some more in some future expansion.

they OFFICIALLY said they will “probably” raise level cap (they never said how much), but they said it will happen with a major expansion (if i remember correctly an expansion you need to buy).

It was an interview if i remember correctly….i lost the link but you will find many players that remebers it being short after the infamous november update……where they introduced the new tier…

Good thing is they recently said it won t happen in the near future…
(if you still trust them….. i do not)

P.S. i don t think they will raise trait cap…imho its just to make PROGRESSION goes farther and get all our non legendary equipment obsolete once again….

What would be the point in level cap raising? It’s not like level has much function in GW2 anyway, the only place it really matters is WvW (since all of PvE has downscaling and sPvP has upscaling). I would actually be in favor of removing level alltogether, so all mobs could just be balanced for one level and no effort needs to be put in scaling anymore. Now that would be a “revolutionary MMO” mechanic.

ANet never have a number, but it has been stated that they intend to raise the level cap in the future.
Of course, their stance on this can change, but they’ve said it very much outright that they’re Oh So Happy that the way they’ve made GW2 would allow for an increased cap, unlike lame and uncool GW1 and its disgusting horizontalness (last statement added out of facetiousness).

I am very much against a raised cap, but I think that if GW2 stays “good enough”, and the expansions are intriguing, I’ll power through it when it comes.
I hope they manage to rectify all the Ascended gear with more than just “lol now u hav skin” when the cap is raised, because I very much doubt people would like to grind up to BiS again.

“I hope we’ve been clear that GW2 is not a game with virtually no stat progression in it like GW1 was. That’s why GW2 shipped with a higher level cap, and with a hard separation between PVE and PVP.
