@Deimos – i know, i know.. i mean, i do mean to help as well as letting them know what i think of their little rant. :PPP

@OP – if you’re willing to learn and hear other people out, you would, again, probably have completed all the WvW maps by now.

Doubt that akamon I would be dead more often then I would be alive to get what I needed….as with all PvP area’s its just a free for all cutting down people to get their points or gratification or whatever it is people get out of attacking one person in a group of more then 5. I think on a fair level, If I was in a group and saw one person I would do my best to have a one on one fight keeping it fair not using my whole guild to take them down…that to me is just bullying and unfair treatment to people that if are solo are not after the PvP of it but to get what they need to complete the map.

Again no one is getting the point…point is the moment I go for a poi or something in wvw I will just get stomped so whats the use…there is no reason to do it if all it is is a free for all cause it will be like having a hundred risen in a small area where a skill point is and your trying to get the skill point and keep dying…If you have to rely on others to get it for you then you won’t get it at all cause they won’t stop and let you get it or help cause thats just how gamers are. They do what they want and use others for bait and such. I have been in PvPs before I stepped in wvw before it was nothing more then a nightmare. 5 minutes and I was finished I could not stay on my feet for 5 minutes every few minutes someones big zerg group took me out so why even try like others say…find my own zerg? Why so they can treat me like the outcast cause I am not in there lil cliq.
I have said what I came to say some agree that they WvW should not be apart of map completion some do not so be it. Not one of you can force me to go in there and do it if I did it would be to prove that 99.9% of the time in there would be me dead.

Oi, oi. Throughout this thread, I have a feeling you’re being deliberately obtuse.

If, on the other hand, you’re really not getting what is being said, here’s my own experience of world completion:

Despite being a genuinely nice person who on occasion tries to get on with others for the greater good, I’m still one of the most anti-social people I know (and being anti-social, I don’t know that many). My first character was (and still is) an engineer. A poorly-built, poorly-played engineer, who didn’t do combos except by accident and spent gold on all the “wrong” gear. I have medical conditions, which if someone wished to delve into my post history, are elaborated on when it comes to discussing some “difficult” content. Add in a resulting fear of failure and the traditional problem of other people being perpetual kitten s with a splash of knowledge that the stupid comes in groups, big groups that are often zerg-flavoured, and huge amounts of anxiety of killing other players, where my heart is literally thumping out of my chest…

…I still have 100% world completion on that kitten -poor engineer.

It took time and patience. Talking to a few of my then guild-mates for advice (I’m now a 100% solo player in a guild of one). It also took swapping server, back when it was allowed for free. It took swallowing my pride (yes, pride. The anti-social ’fraidy cat has far too much of it) and misgivings and getting stuck in. It also took acknowledging how that part of the game is constructed, changing my ways and going with it. If a point is contested, or overrun with enemy players, then you should learn some patience, and back off for another day.

If you are not prepared to adapt, then no, you’ll never get completion. If, however, you’re prepared to suck it up, accept that you will fail and ensure you learn from that failure, then you will achieve. There’s really no kind way to say this, but don’t blame others for what is essentially your problem.

I’m now slowly doing my own world completion again, on two different characters. For my mesmer, it was taking longer because of the toxic alliance living world bobbins sitting on the skill points more than players (I think that’s probably gone now, so I’ll resume going about my business in WvW). For my ranger, I play with a longbow and a bear so the zerg hated me (even when I did produce the sword and warhorn! Still hated), but getting around the world solo was kinda okay. I’m still not a particularly effective player, but having played all classes to an extent (except guardian. Don’t know why, but me and guardian do not mix, and I have so tried), I’ve made an effort to learn enough to get by.

It is possible. You just have to want it enough. Question: Do you want it enough?

WvW accounts for like 3% of the total map probably. What’s less fair: that pve players have to go into wvw for 3%, or that wvw players have to go into pve country for 97%?

I am honestly amazed that so many are trying to help get finished with the WvW part of the achievement and he is ignoring that fact. It’s part of the achievement. Lamenting that fact will not change it. I’m not a WvW player either, but I knew getting these places was part of getting my legendary, so I just sucked it up and did it. Complaining would not have helped me.

it is fair.
WvW players have to do a ton of PvE stuff to get a Legendary. Far, far more than any PvE player has to do in WvW. If you start watching the WvW maps for when you have control of certain things, and do it as you do everything else, chances are very high you will have WvW map completion done before everything else.
People tend to leave WvW map completion as the last thing to do and of course its frustrating then because you have to watch and wait for some of it. Start early and it will be done long, long before you need it.

Solutions to this OP:

Its possible to add an enemy (click them and then go to party manual add) to your party and explain to them what you’re doing (though they have to agree to join first). I did it twice before. He still mistakenly killed me and said, “Opps. I’ll help you get the Vista/Poi in my territory.” As many wvw’ers too are trying yo get map completions as well.

There was a guy near a blue camp as we were red ( the one with the harpy event and vista), and I had to get the camp’s poi, but none of us will take it. The lone enemy guy was guarding it. I partied him and told him, "I just need the poi I’m not attacking you nor the capture point I’ll just die or you can get a free kill if you so desire after I’m done its for 100% here. He agreed, but I died to the camp vets.)

Anet needs to allow talking to enemies and use of /me to get points across. Who cares if it can be used for trolling or spying. The game mode is fail already.

Or allow us to get pois just by going to the doors Anet.

Also If you are Blackgate I’m TC and always will be. You see me complaining much? I’m in your shoes… you need to add me pm me in WvW when we match up, and manually! Friend list only allows you to report for bad WVW behaviors. Then I can add you as an enemy and we can go do the pois/vista’s skill points you need; I can tell all my TC not to kill you as you will be following me but we can still hurt each other so you have to be careful.

It really does make my head hurt when I see his comments now. I’m almost suspecting he’s doing this on purpose. I don’t know what WvW he’s experienced, but a free for all? Really? It’s not a free for all. It’s your server against two other servers.

I think he honestly imagines WvWvW is some giant arena where everyone is a red name and everyone is constantly killing each other and they stand on POIs just waiting for nubs to come by so they can gank them. It’s not like that. Not like that in the slightest. There is absolutely no trolling (except possibly in the JP but that’s a separate instance completely now and isn’t needed for the 100% completion). Especially on a server like Blackgate and those that would be up against them. Those servers, which I imagine is like Fort Aspenwood (which I’m on and #1 Silver league wooo), are more interested in actual WvW strategy and not trolling some carebear nervously trying to explore the zone.

More often than not when I see a solo player running and he sees me, we typically just ignore each other, maybe wave in passing. People are a lot more respectable than you know. If you are alone and see a group of enemies, then just run away from them, or you know, be OK with dying in a game that has very little death penalty.

Clearly OP has had some bad experiences in other games’ PvP. GW2 doesnt work like that. You don’t have twinks, you don’t have gankers, it’s just plain fun. And safe.

Youre not bullied, its just PvP. I agree that it shouldnt be part of the requirement, but it is. But no one is bullying you, no one is belittling you, no one is berating you, no one is harassing you (verbally). You might have a roamer from the other server that might try to gank you. But thats part of WvW.

And people dont beat up on eachother for no reason. They fight eachother because its fun, bragging rights, server bragging rights, and to provide you, the PVE player, with buffs(gathering buffs, crafting buffs, etc). All PVE-only players should really thank the hardcore WvW’ers for the bonuses they get out in the open world of Tyria. These WvW players spend loads of gold to make your server competitive so that you receive these bonuses. Trust me, theres ample reason why people play WvW.

Theres no bullying and I think in this day, bullying carries a slightly harsher meaning.

Karma is as abundant as air, and as useless as the Kardashians.

I hardly have anyone really stop and wave for me, but lately I’ve been getting the kittens especially in EB.

Its you get some and give some. You take what you given and you give back usually in bigger numbers of pain if you can. You live with it and move on. It took me six tries to get the krait skill point in EB. As same zerg (usually BG or SOS) would kill all on sight. Its not all kittens and rainbows as you say. There are gankers, and they usually hang in the big zergs, not solo. The OP is right in a way, but its not every single player in GW 2 that WVW.

If only we could talk to them (even with /me). “Hi I’m just mapping please let me live and run on by.” soon enough: “AGGGGH! MY SPLEEN AND INTESTINES ARE HANGING OUT! I”M DYING! NOOOO!" Yeah that feature might not work now that I think of it.

Other method I thought of (and used on my ele for her 100%) is to make a one man guild called Only a Mapper [MAP] and see how far that gets you. You may become a free kill red flag to everyone!

I hated having to do WvW for map completion and avoided it for months and months even +1’d a lot of threads prrobably about 9-11 months ago requesting it changed and look how that turned out.

Best bet is just keep popping into WvW and hope your server owns the map you need or even just areas you need. I got lucky on Maguuma one day and we had all of them. I ran around and got everything in a few hours.

Look up your server’s match here, check the live map and use it to determine if it’s worth popping over for a quick grab in area’s your server controls. If you are on a server that doesn’t do well, then Friday night after the reset should have the most territory under your server’s control. If you are on a dominating server like Blackgate, go anytime for they rarely lose their starting locations and can dominate several maps at once, depending on the time of day.

2 things:

Last night I capped all of my server’s Borderlands and a decent chunk of EB. I don’t WvW. I’ve spent a total of about 3-4 hours in WvW since head-start. I followed a zerg into 1 outpost. Otherwise, I didn’t see 1 other enemy during my whole exploration that I couldn’t avoid. See em on your horizon? Don’t go near em and find another POI to cap and come back later.

I’ve found GW2 players to be some of the nicest I’ve met in MMOs. Give them a chance. You can’t get mad about enemy players killing you if you wander into a group of them. But sticking with your allies means you’re safer and there is zero way they can kill or grief you. I think something awful must have happened to you at a young age to give you such a strong distrust & distaste of the human race.

Yea, I don’t know if we could call someone a ganker if they are hanging with the zerg. I think common sense should prevail that if you are solo and you see the zerg coming. You should, you know, run, and junk.

It’s not all kittens and rainbows, no. But it’s not even close to how OP is picturing it.

There are days where I literally would kill for someone to, uh, kill. Generally this is during very non-peak hours.

If you are afraid to die, then just look at the map and avoid any crossed swords. This goes for Contested towers/keeps/camps as well. It’s really that simple. Most of the fighting takes place at those locations. Or let’s say one of the towers was just capped by an enemy force, you can probably assume that group will move on to an adjacent camp or back to defend something of theirs that is being attacked.

Blackgate has great communication. They have scouts watching where the zerg is. Just avoid the areas they are calling out in /map/team. OP really is just being stubborn.

Also, I believe the enemy can see your text in /say. If I was chasing someone down to kill them and they started begging for their lives, I would probably stop because that would be RP gold and hilarious. I’m going to try it sometime lol. “Please no! I have a family! I just need to deliver these eggs to the supply camp so I can be paid and have a real Christmas this year!!” “NOOOOO!” “Think of the kiiiiiiiddddssss!!!”

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

For any legendary you need gift of battle as well as gift of exploration, so WvW is a must. These go hand in hand. You also need dungeon tokens. You also need stuff obtained through PvE and skill points and karma and harvesting. The whole point of world completion and working toward a legendary is to take part in all aspects of the game. It’s not even as hard as it could be.

Personally, I’m glad I started to do WvW. It’s so much more fun than PvE, and my server is not top tier. We are outnumbered all the time, and I’m horrible at PvP. But it’s a blast, and I’ve never EVER been made fun of by anyone on my server. Even when I do stupid stuff like run off the side of a tower and die ’cuz I hit the wrong sword combo LOL.

If you’re not willing to try it, sorry, I agree then you should not get the map completion. I was scared of PvP and WvW and dungeons. The thought of other players killing me was scary. But I got over it fast, because I get to kill them too. It’s fun. It’s challenging. Not like the ROFLSTOMP kills in PvE. When I get my last 1% in WvW (soon… very soon now) I will feel like I really accomplished something. That’s the point, IMHO.

With how each week the color are randomly assigned, I can’t believe this type of thread stills exists.

As for a whole zerg killing one lone dude : one lone player can do a lot of troubles. I sometime let people pass because they are probably just running around, but it’s not “bullying” to kill a player that can :
-cap a camp
-put swords on a tower
-spy movements
-contest a WP

I did WvWvW map complete over the course of less than a week. Now that we’re not in the WvWvW season it might take longer (colour changing less often) but I am planning on doing it again with my Mesmer and I does not afraid.

I started now because I thought it was going to be really bad and take a really long time – but it wasn’t bad !

I don’t feel “bullied” in WvWvW. It’s very anonymous. Sure, I got killed a few times – but I killed some people back, too. It’s not “bullying” – it’s just a war game. I have not experienced any actual “griefing” – I’m sure it’s possible but it doesn’t seem common. I actually started doing WvW a bit more too – you can really accomplish a lot with even just a group of three ! That should be more than enough to get all the things that you would normally hold for your given colour.

I would encourage you or anyone else to give it a shot. I have never cared for PvP in general, but I’m glad that I gave it a shot and started to actually get into it.

And I did it on an Engineer – no stealth, crappy speed boost. It should be cake on my Mesmer or Warrior.

Try to get a group together or ask for help if you can’t get something (Skillpoint in EB guarded by a champ, haha – thank you so much bystander who gave my poor Engineer stealth I hadn’t realised how much deep crap I’d stepped in and that was the last thing I needed for all of WvW and I’d ran all over enemy territory to get there).
