Stories not Account Wide - Should Be
I will try to be polite….No.
you are choosing to have multiple characters, if you dislike doing more than one story, then either delete 14 characters, or suck it up buttercup. There is a point to having individual stories. you made your bed.

Oh, gods no.
It’s already bad enough that most of the Crystalline Ore I’ll ever get will be from stories, because those kitten noxious pods never spawn, and when they do they never drop ore.
Also, many skins set can only be completed under any reasonable time with multiple characters.
I am no friend of repetitive grind. And completing stories several times is way , WAAAAY less grind that completing meta events over and over.
Ruff Ruff… Just a buttercup with bite.
I like doing the story multiple times…. Although I will say that the fact that map completion of AB is gated by the story kind of kittenes me off.
I can’t say that I really enjoy doing the stories multiple times but since they have rewards, such as Auric weapons, behind doing the stories multiple times on different characters I’ll have to also say no, let them be as they are now.
If they allowed you to repeat the story after its done and to still get a reward that’s now locked behind doing it on multiple characters then yes.
ANet may give it to you.

The disadvantage of a character-bound HoT/story is that there is a single POI gated behind moving a certain item to Tarir.
The advantage of a character-bound story is:
- One piece of exotic, viper gear per toon.
- One piece of Leystone Armor; one bladed head gear
- Airship Oil by the barrel
- Orders backpack collection started (up to 3)
- Exotic, Auric weapons (at least 9 potential skins, maybe 14)
- Exotic, Chak weapons (same counts)
- Map currency & keys (a handful per iteration)
- Crystalline Ore 25
- BL Key
If you ran 18 toons through HoT/story, you could complete collections for leystone & bladed armor, chak & auric weapons; you’d have a couple of BL weapon skins; a lot of keys; a good chuck of crystalline ore; and of course a lot of blues & greens.
And you realize I’m not asking for any changes to the ability to do all this stuff on multiple toons and get all that trash, right? I’m just suggesting that AN acknowledge that you have “Completed” a story step when you do it on any toon, and that you can do the next step on any other toon in your account rather than “having” to catch up to do that next step on another toon. No change to MP rewards and achievements, which already work account wide.

With that clarification, I will agree this would be a nice QoL. Provided they can easily track individual alt progress so you can in fact do every step on every alt if you wish without something getting locked out — I say this as I am now in my third run up in two days to Buried Insight as I need a lot of ley line sparks and might as well get a lot of alts set to do Part IV for the crystalline ore that provides if I don’t accrue it through other game play.
I mean it wouldn’t really make sense to make it account bound since it is your characters personal story.

^this.
You can do the story steps with any character at anytime, just know someone who is doing it, also you don’t have to do any of LW2 to play HoT. But the story of GW2 is supposed to be personal to each character. Not just something you can do with 15 different people at the same time.

The account wide achievements in this game are normally once completed and then are done and you can’t repeat on another char to get another reward, like you can now with the Auric weapons and the individual LS. I can see your point but I’d be suspicious of the implementation and the consequences of making the story account wide.

Fun fact: I got Spark in a main story mission lootbag
Its really quite simple. Its a completionist thing. You are supposed to run it per character. Hell the missions in HoT even have branching paths.
I disagree with the OP, however I feel that one thing that should’ve been made account-wide is the achievement availability for LS2. I still haven’t got around to doing that, it just feels weird having to repeat the same story on the same character in order to get achievements.
Some of the best loot in the game comes from running alts though story. Removing that because some people want the feeling of completion or to bounce between characters for a single story completion would be a huge mistake. Story can easily be finished with alts with haphazard builds. Changing story to be account wide instead of character specific would ruin this game for many more players than it would improve it for players with too many alts. Alts don’t have to do story, and can often skip ahead passed old story and just do new story.
Don’t change it.
I would agree with this. Running a character through the story is not hard at all. The only time it gets difficult is where they are all at the same point, I have that have just done claw island. To say I don’t want to talk to the pale tree again would not do it justice.
My rev has just got to HoT. So that’s next on my list. Then I think I’ll get another warrior through it, or maybe my Necro. My Engi and thief as only on the level 20-30 story I think.

What really should be account wide…. opening dungeons.
I’d just settle for the option to turn the personal story indicatior off. I’ve finished twice, before they kittened up the order of the last bit, I don’t really want to do it again.
Alt-a-holic here….
18 characters on main account
17 characters on one alt
2 characters on my baby alt
/votes no
Abso-kittening-lutely NO
That is all.

Yes.

It’s not a crazy idea, just a lot more work than it sounds… particularly to balance rewards. In some cases, the rewards are based on the assumption that folks are going to do the chapters in order, so that (made up example) chapter 1, 2, & 3 each give two greens and a blue, while chapter 4 (the end of the theoretical Act I) has the exotic with the new skin.
But even just coding so that people can pick up and start chapters out of order means the game has to change the way it keeps track of character progress.
tl;dr It’s a nice quality-of-life change with a limited value to a limited set of people, at a premium cost.

Never spawn? You’re not looking. There’s about one per quest branch on each path to the bosses (about 4-6 x3 total about 12), usually hidden somewhere in the vicinity of each quest. After beating Mordy, there’s another 15-20 made accessible.
