After being yelled at in the HoT subforum for my original idea (and I expect those same people to continue to harass me here), but also getting some new ideas from others, I thought this would be a better location for this suggestion.

There are players of all different types in this game, from the super casual and laid-back to the super hardcore. For a lot of players like myself, I don’t care much for my mastery level, and only level it up when I happen upon enough exp and mastery points to do so (which is pretty rare). It’s hardly related at all to most of the things I do, which is usually open world Central Tyria stuff with friends. As a result, I’d like the option to have my level show up in that spot instead of my mastery level. I don’t feel that it accurately represents me as a player (and shouldn’t affect the way others perceive me), and others may feel the same way.

Someone else had mentioned that they’d like the ability to examine people. Of course that would raise a lot of protests, so maybe it would be an interesting idea to add that as a privacy setting as well, by allowing players to toggle whether they want to let others examine their gear and maybe even stats.

This can be done with other things too, like hiding a player’s Achievement Points, maybe the gold star for world completion, etc.

Some people probably can’t even fathom why others would want these things, but just because someone doesn’t want the option for themselves, that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be available for other people.

Maybe in some areas certain privacy features could be toggled on by default and can’t be turned off (like PvP or WvW, I’m not sure because I don’t play either), like how gliding is disabled in instances and stuff.

Is it possible to get any input on this from devs to know if it’s possible??

I also do not want. If you have a question about a build or a skin, ask the player.

Personally, I’m on the opposite side of the wall here, I’d love to do more HoT stuff but I don’t want friends to feel bad or left behind if I get a higher mastery level than them. +1 for hide mastery levels.

I feel like a lot of people missed this part. Maybe you guys didn’t read the whole thing.

It’s okay though, I’m mostly hoping for dev input.

Want! Want! Want!

A good example of this is in Second Life. Not only can you right click someone to see their profile but you can do it with objects as well. For example, here we would right click on a buff item to see the profile of the group that put it out for everyone. The ability to do it with our characters would solve 99% of the use cases though.

The only thing I’d want is to be able to see what skins are in use by a right-click on a toon, or somesuch. Sure, I could whisper them, but I’m more the sort who would just browse while waiting for an event or whatever.

While i don’t care about others showing their mastery levels or not, the ingame inspect option is a completely different matter. My dislike of it was never based on whether i need it or not – it’s because i’d rather not see it in the hands of others. And privacy options wouldn’t help here at all.

Actions, not words.

That doesn’t make any sense at all. Are you sure if what you’re trying to say here?

I don’t think anyone ‘yelled’ at you. Dissenting opinions should not be taken personally.

I’d rather Dev time and resources be spent on something else, like content. In case you think I say this because of a high Mastery level, my GL has 66 or 67, and I have just hit 100 or so; one-third of cap, and about one-half of cap, respectively.

You might consider adding your suggestion to the QoL Sticky above.

Good luck.

Yes. To restate it more simply:
There are options you judge based on usefulness to you. There are also options you judge based on what they could do in the hands of others. Inspect is in that second category.
And ability to block inspect wouldn’t change anything.

Actions, not words.
