[Suggestion]No race change? Possible Solution

Thanks for asking. To change the race in the Gem store will not be an option in Guild Wars 2.

Sorry saw part in you thread where you say desperately want to change race. Then I did not read the rest very careful because we get race change thread about one time a week. My fault.

lol, no problem, and agreed I see that thread all to often. This is something that technically requires you starting a new character, withought the loss of everything you have been through on your main that was out for a limited time, or hundreds of gold on crafting simply because your tired of playing a ~insert race here~ since however long you have been playing that race.
I believe people would want to race change because it would be most convenient to race change and keep everything you’ve unlocked remain unlocked on that particular character e.g. crafting professions, recipes, soul bound equip etc.
A more viable solution would be just to make all crafting professions, recipes, soul bound equip etc. account unlocked. I would totally buy all crafting licenses if this was possible as investing too much on one character would be too much.
tl;dr I have a main character all crafting licenses unlocked and crafting professions mastered, but I made a very cool sylvari character and want him to be my new main… oh man I have to master all crafting professions again… I died a lil inside.
One thing I don’t understand is, why do you need to relearn all the crafting professions again? If you’re willing to relevel the char anyway and that’s not a problem, then why not just park the old char at a crafting site, buy a new character slot, make a new char, and off you go.
Now if you simply want to argue for account bound recipes, that’s one thing. I just don’t see why it needs to be tied to making a new char. Surely it’s not that big a financial bite to pay up for the slot, particularly since you can reduce or eliminate the real world cost with ingame gold.
ANet may give it to you.
I can see a down side to this whole consolidating thing, especially to people who level characters from crafting. This would’ve been a solution for key farming about a year ago lol.
It’s a nice little QoL thing that I wouldn’t mind being added, especially unlocking all those recipes scattered around the game, at least now I’ll know I’ve unlocked the recipes account wide.
As just a flesh wound says, I dont see why you have to have the crafting disciplines on the new char either just pop into the old if you need to craft something bank it and take out with the new char.
Slightly tweaked.
Gem store item
Account wide crafting token that unlocks all trained crafting disciplines across one account for one chosen character.
Honestly my biggest grind is the recipe’s, I would love to have them all unlocked for once, rather than bouncing alt to alt to see who has what. Unlocking the crafting professions is nice for sure, I have all mastered on several characters and does not effect me, but the point is… I and many others would like to simply change race, however I see why that can be problematic for them (Anet) to implement with the story and all, and dumping out hundreds of gold to find the recipe’s you unlocked, or crafting back to 4-500 is a dreadful thought. And yes you CAN park your character at a different location, but that kind of defeats the purpose of making the new character your main… Maybe its my completionist/OCD side of things, but I cant really consider the character i’m on to be my main when clearly another has months/years worth of effort slapped into him. Also when my only option as well as others in the same boat, would be to dump out hundreds of gold to catch up. Again the recipe’s is the BIGGEST issue here for me, but crafting professions is not to far off.
I wouldn’t mind the recipes that you have to buy being account bound, but the recipes you get from leveling up crafting or discovery to be left character bound.
I would like to see something like this implemented.
You should probably change your subject to mention account bound recipes and crafting professions, rather than race change. Some people only look at the subject, and race change is one of the “beating a dead horse” topics here.
You also mention “change race”, “race change”, and “race changing” when you really mean “making a new character of a different race”.(at the sacrifice of an old character or purchase of a new slot) I think it would help if you would edit and re-word your post.
As to your suggestion, many people craft to level new characters, rather than do world exploration. There are people who feel absolutely opposite about this from the way you do.(and this would ruin their way of leveling) So I don’t know that it would be as popular a “solution” as you think.
And it may be hard for Anet to implement. Crafting professions were always envisioned as being tied to a character. Plus there’s the role playing/lore aspect of it – why do all these characters know all the same crafts and recipes, when they didn’t all study them?

I for one don’t want to spend 1k+ gold and re-mastering a list of professions I have already learned on another character, and go running around Tyria looking for recipes I think I have already unlocked all over again. I get that it’s essentially making a new character, but what stops people like him (from what it sounds) is the simple fact that you feel tied down to a specific character (therefor race) simply because of all the effort you spent unlocking everything on him/her throughout the months/yrs you have been playing the game. Ruin their way of leveling? tomes/pvp/world exploration/story/mastery grinding/world bosses/dungeons/wvw/farming, trust me crafting would be the least in that category (unless your a key farmer, in which your playing the game nowhere near how it is intended). When you have to spend in the 100’s (except for maybe chef) to max out a profession those options seem much more reachable. If you have 100+ gold to spend on crafting, by doing dailies alone you should have the tomes to get you at a decent level and the rest can be obtained via not using butt-loads of gold on crafting for 7-10 lvls worth. And for role-players, whats more annoying than not being able to role play a character of your choice? what if I desperately wanted to make that wooden sword, but oh wait I have to go and log into my main, breaking that immersion a role-player seeks just to go make it. Simply because I don’t have that recipe unlocked on this new character I wanted to have fun with. (sure you can trade post for it, but this is 1 of hundreds of examples in the items list that are obtained by recipe’s role players would love to make).

Yes becouse your old character was the one who learned to make that wooden sword and was at the forge getting his/her skill up.
It totaly breaks immersion that you dont have to go find someone for instance your old character or someone else who done the crafting on your brand new character.
clearly missing the “solution” here.

I wouldn’t mind an option at character creation to copy a character’s crafting professions and then if you hit yes, you get a drop down menu of your characters. That way those who care about immersion get to have their immersion, but those that don’t care about immersion get to have the convenience of switching crafting mains.

Reasonable.
