[Suggestion] The Right Time for Mounts
Getting to events via waypoint and guild missions is not only convenient. It’s necessary. Let’s say we’re doing a guild bounty. We have X amount of time left. Now everyone has to ride their mount there. We’re all spread out across the zone.
As it stands now we link the closest waypoint, try to wait for everyone in the guild to get there, and then start the attack. But if time is running short, even now we have to start. Without waypoints, more guildies would miss the bounty.
People shout out for help in map chat with a champion. If we have to ride there, we don’t get to help, it’ll be dead. It can happen with way points too and sometimes does. Magnify that by 5 times maybe and that’s what mounts will get you.
In a dynamic game you need a way to get places dynamically. I wouldn’t mind mounts as a cosmetic addition to the game, mind you but not in place of waypoints.
It would destroy the game as it’s played now for a lot of people.
Dear ArenaNet,
Great game! Thank you! I look forward to Sept. feature pack.
I recently saw a post about using the living story as a means to shut down all the waypoints temporarily and introduce mounts. This idea supports the notion that gw2 is a dynamic world. Dynamic simply means change. So, gw2 is a changing world. I would love to see this change. Let’s admit it, waypoints are simply a convenience and nothing more. Those people who say mounts will cause people to avoid content have no argument, because that is exactly what waypoints do.
Woodenpotatoes posted a couple of videos on YouTube with commentary about not using waypoints. Everyone should watch this. My friend and I have played that way for a while now and the level of immersion is awesome.
So, here is what I would like to add:
*first give us land mounts to earn! make them collectibles, and achievements of prestige for the difficulty of obtaining the faster and coolest looking ones from a combination of quest chains, dungeons, fractals, living story, ect….
*Second, Anet, don’t be afraid to really mix things up…shut down the waypoints!
*Third, turn Tyria into a seemless world so that all sections of the map can be traversed without having to go through a portal and loading screen. I know this would be a huge technical hurdle, but we have the technology!
*After making Tyria a seemless world, introduce flying mounts (dragons) with aerial combat and content in the sky!Basically, Anet, don’t be afraid to actually make changes. Lion’s Arch was a good start, now kick it up a notch. In another post I suggested a political system that would cause world pvp between the races, again, a forever changing and evolving world! Oh, and please update Orr to reflect the completion of the living story.
Thank you.
No – reasons
1. Waypoints part of lore – Mounts are not. In fact, waypoints are important in LS2.
2. No mounts in game or lore – this is huge as the mounts would be a huge design issue.
3. Totally redesigning the game to take out waypoints – would end up being like FF XIV-2
4. Other more important things – new race, another profession, more new area, etc. That should take precedent over mounts.
5. The game already chokes when big zergs come by in WvW – think how it would be with a zerg on mounts – NO THANK YOU
6. LORE breaking to remove waypoints as it is mentioned in the GW novels that were written to fill the lore between the games.
It seems to me, the mounts people would like new bathwater but are throwing out the baby with the old bathwater. This game doesn’t have mounts for a reason. If you want mounts, well, maybe this game isn’t for you.

I would only have mounts in WvW.
Starting with a regular horse for simple +% move speed with lowered stats (so you still fight on foot). Then scale some better mounts unitl a wvw veteran could fight mounted with a little buff to his stats or have siege mounts.
But hey, thats me dreaming…

Wrong game bro
Sorry but, I use the way points constantly bouncing around Tyria from area to area and event to event.
