Hi.

I’m fairly new to GW 2 and I’m loving it so far! Thanks for the awesome game.

One thing I noticed though is that there is this quite infuriating automatic sheathe-mechanic that keeps sheathing my weapon all the time.

I noticed there’s a key-bind for draw/sheathe weapon in the control-options, but I was surprised that the game always tries to force auto-sheathe on you (kitten how much I hated it in Kingdoms of Amalur), or that there isn’t any option to remove this annoying system in “Options”.
I’d like to be able to walk around for a minute or longer without my characters feeling the compulsive obsessive behaviour of sheathing their weapons on & on.

I hope this was just an oversight from the developers of this great game, that it hopefully can be patched sometime soon and that I’m not the only player in the whole of Guild Wars 2 who think this is a tad silly that characters act like they do

Sincerely~

It makes more sense to sheath your weapon when it’s not being used, in terms of realism; in general, I personally found it annoying how long it would take for a weapon to be sheathed after use.

That being said, this could be a nice option for people who’d like to keep their weapons out.

You can sheathe it manually if you bind the draw/sheathe key to a button.

Yes, I find it really annoying that I can’t have the weapon out for an indefinite time if I say stand in hostile territory somewhere with lots of monsters. Why would I sheathe it just to be jumped 5 seconds later by a new enemy?

I hope Arenanet sees this thread!

Well, if there is sort of toggle weapon option, i will be a lot more happy.

I have rolled Charr for many times and every time i killed the character to make room for another race. It is because of the slow motion 4 leg run… if i can toggle weapon and always carry a weapon as a Charr, i am sure i can finally make a lv80 Charr….

In my case it’s quite the opposite. I bound the key to manually sheathe the weapon as soon as I’m done with combat. I feel stupid standing still with no enemies around, just a racoon and a bunch of butterflies and for some reason my character still has his weapon and angry face on.

That said. I understand you since this is a matter of taste and personal opinion. I hope ANet has time to add this QoL.

Zerk is the average Joe build. Don’t pat yourself in the back too hard.

Yeah there is a toggle, I use it all the time.

If you play Mesmer you can unsheathe smoothly out of combat without triggering an attack animation by popping shatter (3s cd or something, wont ever sheath it unless you want too)

I do the exact same thing.

I always have my Gamma set to, roughly, 0.85 to make night-time visibly different from day-time. When I enter dark areas – caves, mainly – it’s normally too dark for me to see, so I unsheathe my Mesmer’s torch and use that as a light source to better notice cracks I can jump over and general terrain.

So yeah, I would also like to see unsheathing weapons as a perma-toggle feature, but I get the feeling that my reasons are a bit less relatable… :/

I also bound the sheathe/unsheathe button even though I don’t RP, I just found it fun to do sometimes. Especially with weapons with unsheathe effects like the Super Shield. I guess an option not to auto sheathe would do no harm, I’m all for it.

Well, in a martial arts I practice it is normal to keep your weapon drawn and remain concentrated for a while after performing certain techniques to simulate making sure your target is unable to continue fighting, and that there is no one else around that might be a threat. Perhaps you could justify it that way.
