It’s been 14 months with no SAB, I am going insane without new jumping puzzles to play, along with that insane difficulty.

I’m hoping that after Season 2 ends, we’ll get World 3.

I’m still missing SAB… and wondering why it can’t simply be added as permanent content, with periodic new worlds.

Perhaps its a technical issue, and they don’t really like single player map instances, since it takes up too many resources? Maybe that is one of the reasons why its taking so long or why they don’t want to add it as permanent content?

Without knowing that much about their tech, how would you go about making it less taxing for the servers? Perhaps they can offload (most parts of) the single person versions of maps directly to the clients. And only keep the multi person version on the server for people that want to play with friends?

Why I’m speculating it might be a technical issue:
Something similar seems to be the case with the clock tower.
People complained that others were in their way during jumping, and rather then just making a single instance per person, they changed it to a pvp style map where they can turn the other players into mists.
But they still push 8 or so people together in a map instance since that’s a factor 8 less map instances needed thus reducing server stress. Even though single person versions would be more convenient for most people since we would not have to wait and hope for other people to fall before we could try again.

Mega servers also seems to be a way to reduce the amount of needed map instances. (and solve some other problems as well)

Now maybe SABs status has nothing to do with technical issues, but whether it is or isn’t, I’d much rather have a similar explanation. Something I’d be able to understand and sympathise with, in stead of the translucent “soon” filter.

Would it really be that different if they had W1 and W2 turned back on? We would still have more or less the same thread but instead of: “Where is SAB?” It would be “Why don’t you ever release W3 and W4?”

And of course the risk that people simply grow tired of it when it has been in-game for a rather long time so they don’t even bother playing it when W3 is finally released and thus they would more or less have spent the time and resources on something that people wouldn’t play.

Well that’s true, if you assume that everyone in here enjoys complaining rather than actually playing SAB.

Of course we’d like W3 and W4, but that doesn’t mean that having W1 and W2 isn’t better than nothing.

To an extent its understandable that they remove everything for re-tweaks and to ensure hype when they bring it back but it really feels like one of the biggest hindrances to the development of this game is that so much development time has been put into incredible content that remains “temporarily unavailable – possibly for years”. There doesn’t seem to be a reason that SAB W1 and W2 couldn’t remain in game and if a patch comes along to add W3 you, well, patch and change whatever you want to change then. If people want to check it out they will and if they don’t they won’t.

“Time Gated Fun” seems silly. I may not live long enough to see LS1 implemented into repeatable content or a return of SAB :P (or cantha implementation) It would seem more appropriate to enjoy the game however you want to and play it the way you want to anytime and look forward to the next thing coming along – rather than waiting for something (perhaps the ONLY minigame) you enjoyed to come back. Its one thing to be temporarily unavailable for a few days but when you start talking years you have to start questioning the lifespan of not only an MMO but the playerbase as well! Stuff like SAB also buys time for the GW universe lore to be re-established after the 250 year gap – we can hop around in 8-bit and not be so critical that the Tyria we loved for 8-9 years of real life isn’t yet fully synced up/implemented into a 2 year old successor game :P

Yeah, I think this is the big problem with the way ANet have approached content updates. They haven’t expanded a “living world” in a way that makes you think “Oh, that’s new and exciting and I’m interested in playing that.” They’ve instead decided that “It’s time for you to play this now.”

Sure some of the stuff they’ve told me it’s time to play has been fun, but it just feels forced and restrictive.

I just don’t get it. Why is it so hard to just open up the already EXISTING worlds?
Why is that so hard? Can anyone think of one good reason not to open up those worlds.
I know some people are against if they would spend their resources on creating the world 3 etc. But just open up the worlds that have already been made.
It doesn’t hurt the people that hate SAB. They just don’t play it, but their fear that Anet would spent resources on creating new worlds wouldn’t be in place.
BUT the people who love it can play it. People that spent money on the infinite coin would finally see their money justified.

So why Anet, why not just open existing world. Again, give me one good reason to not open the existing worlds.

I know you would like more details, more info, a date, etc., but that’s not available right now. I hope the above comment reassures you, though, because at the core, the important answer is that yes, SAB will be back in the future.

Please inform Colin that all gem purchases are delayed until Soon™, which will be in “the future” and “we don’t have a timeframe”.

In my specific case: Soon™ will also include Fractal Reset compensation.
(no, I have not forgotten)

Gaile, I seriously don’t understand the management in your company.

Wow, way to show off how selfish you are. “They’re withholding something I like, so they must be doing bad management.”

The game is called Guild Wars 2, not Super Adventure Box. From what I remember, SAB is still a special event, and that’s part of the appeal. If they’d make this content permanent, the majority of people would lose interest in it after a month.

No, I did that too. The reason was because using the Infinite coin only gave you 10 lives at a time, while you could buy up to 25 in a go with regular coins. That gave me more lives (and thus attempts) between visits to Moto’s Chamber of Death while doing Tribulation Mode. The Infinite coin was just a safety net for if I was completely out of regular coins while doing a Trib Mode run.

“selfish”? … you have this all wrong.

It’s real simple:

  • They are the gods of GW2
  • I am the god of my money

Want my money? Please me. I’m the customer.
You wrote: “They’re withholding something I like, so they must be doing bad management.”, I, the customer, answer: D—m right!

I could even decide to withhold my money until the second pixel from the top left corner is red if I so chose. Please; there is no need for “selfish” here.

In the bigger picture the company didn’t disappoint a chance to disappoint on other common player-wanted issues (2nd Year In Numbers with focus on SAB in this thread), so I don’t believe I’m the odd customer out even if that mattered.

And regarding not allowing SAB to us players so it wouldn’t lose it’s appeal: Have they developed it for appeal, or fun? Dungeons are fun, and aren’t a holiday, shall we lock them too? How about the appeal of cities, why allow players to enter them? Or the appeal of world bosses, why not once a month? Or the appeal of waypoints, why not 1 per 3 zones? Or the appeal of the Thief class, or the appeal of forests, or the appeal of … of fun.

You be the judge of your own money. That’s your part. And that was my decision.

Maybe SAB will open up as permanent content for Wintersday. This is another chance for the developers to show the players that they do indeed listen to and care about player feedback and desired content, which couldn’t be bad for their PR.

The pessimistic side of me says this obviously won’t happen because ANet is now a greedy company that only cares about money and not the players; the optimistic side of me says they might pull a Scrooge on us and give us SAB after the ghosts of Wintersday Past, Present, and Future show them the light.

My pessimistic side is probably more accurate than my optimistic side.

Ignorance and entitlement sums it up pretty much. Ignorance in the sense that people do not realize (or accept) that Anet needs to have revenue to fund the _free_content, the servers, and the staff while ignoring everything else we’ve gitten that hasn’t come from the gem store. Entitlement in the sense that they feel that they can dictate Anet on how to run their game and then bashes the company for not giving in to their demands.

It’s sad to see people only posting to bash other players on the forums. These posts are under the assumption that they understand the people they are bashing, and quickly throw in labels like entitled and ignorant to make a point. I had hoped it was apparent with my playful comparison of ANet to Scrooge since we’re close to Christmas, that it would be understood that my post was not meant to be 100% accurate and able to be picked apart. It wasn’t directed at you specifically. Perhaps I should have added that disclaimer. Sorry about the confusion. The quoted post of yours is just what I see all to often which prompted the generalized statement. It doesn’t apply to everyone as people could potentially have valid complaints. Actually, it only really applies to a small, vocal percentage.

There’s a difference between wanting and being disappointed that certain content isn’t made available compared to demanding and bashing a company when it isn’t made available. There are many things that I want in this game, including SAB, but I’m not going to bash the company and call them greedy and not caring about the players when it gets put on the back burner.

I hope what I’m saying is coming across clearly.

There is going to have to be a point when persisting on not giving a gem refunds for this item will be worse for them than continuing as things are now. That said it is likely not happening unless SAB, or the lack thereof, gets another 15 minutes of fame in a spotlight again eventually.

After Gaile’s statement about SAB two months ago now they bought some time and the discussion died down. Personally I have contemplated about asking a refund once or twice but never actually created a ticket for it. Eventually I’d wager it comes down to making a compelling argument which shouldn’t be that hard as time goes on.

Actually, thinking about it from a different angle, making a case for a refund might be easier when SAB is not getting a lot of attention because they are not getting many tickets on the subject. Honestly can’t really say.

If I had to guess next discussion on this topic will spring up around April or so, unless the current content landscape changes drastically between now and then.

I see my infinite coin in my bank every day and miss it

They still have to explain why they removed it in the first place after charging for a continue coin. It’s not like it’s bad for anyone to have more content in the game.

Dear Anet,
SAB has been closed for 15 months now. It’s also been 15 months since I’ve bought Gems. The latter number is going to keep increasing until the former number decreases.

Dear Anet,
SAB has been closed for 15 months now. It’s also been 15 months since I’ve bought Gems. The latter number is going to keep increasing until the former number decreases.

Now think about all the players who will say the same about other features. Also, think about the dozens of players who believe that SAB isn’t series content and a mere waste of time.

You get a community that will never be statisfied which is actually the truth.
We like different things and the company can’t make everyone happy. Therefore they try to balance it up to have an overall positive community while keeping the profit coming in.
