99% of this game is made for casuals, they are adding in optional content for hardcore players to enjoy.
and they should not do that. Everyone should be able to be equal and enjoy the content equally. Adding something to grind for is not a good idea.
They’ve only mentioned Legendary getting Ascended stats, so my guess would be no.

I am not saying that the stats were eqaul, but you didnt have energy (ascended version) vs a normal health.. That might be hard to grasp but not sure how to put it another way. There wearnt better versions of the armor you could get. Every stat had a max you could get on it. There are no valkyrie stats for rings, amulet, and accessories but there are 150 different versions of zerker gear for ascended gear. All i ask is that before they delve into ascended armor (would put me even further back as i dont believe they would have the stats i want) i am force to play from behind. Which is fine gives the other players i come across a chance

Using that definition of a grind makes everything in this game a grind post 80.
Gold farming, grind.

Making something that is expensive and takes time does not make it a grind. The stats are minimal and not required to complete anything in the game.
Oh and u can buy ascended gear and infusions from WsW laurel merchant too : 25 laurels + 250 badges for ring – yea something that is ’ REALLY HARD ’ to get if you have problem with fractals …
So rather than getting the items to drop as Fractal players do (and as WvW players were supposed to be able to do six months ago), we get one item a month as a consolation prize?
Honestly, you want highest rank gear to drop from zerg vs zerg fights in WsW ? Now that would be joke ! …

let’s see. Up until now you didn’t need to grind gold for anything. The top level gear was available to you just for leveling up. Now you will either have to pay a lot or you’ll have to pay a lot to get a crafting profession to 500.
Legendary is very very optional. As up to now it provided no benefit over exotic weapons and was nothing more but a nice skin.
Most achievements are a grind, but once again you don’t need them to access the end game content. (for example – thirst slayer)
Fractals is a dungeon. One is free to run it as much as one wants. However now one will be closed off it until that person will spend a lot of money to get their crafting to 500.
Content releases don’t give you an advantage, only skins. Like it should be. You lose nothing by missing out on an update. Miss out on the daily gear craft and you’ll slowly fall behind.

Finally… you HAVE to account for the base stats when talking about an OVERALL increase in stats. That’s why people have been trying to tear me down on my 3-5% overall increase. They are only considering the GEAR increase and refuse to take into account the base 916.
If you want to compare the gear to gear (as many people here have) you will have misleading numbers but that will not give you an clear picture of how more effective you are as a player.

You can’t upgrade 1 piece by 100% and expect an overall 100% increase in effectiveness. There is a difference between a percent change in gear and a percent change in your character’s overall stats.

Ok so im not getting how this is an improvement.
We will get armor and weapons that will use infusion slots hence infusions.
Can anyone tell me how an infusion is better than runes/sigils?
How can a faceless bland infusion of +5 or whatever compare to the awesome utility of the Soldier runes, or the sheer awesomeness of the Fire Sigil.
Then theres stack on kill sigils and many many more things.
From my perspective and from what im seeing this will make runes and sigils, something really special to the individuality of a player obsolete.
Cause you cant put those in infusion slots.
what if, we can apply both runes / sigils PLUS infusions onto ascended armor and weapons?
I too hope it is reasonable. It seems like it will be a time-gate which is ok.

Yeah, I think it will be like an extra stat bonus – just like the accessories you infuse to get a total of 10 on each piece.
Or perhaps we can infuse runes/sigils at 500 either with an item that we craft (similar to Transmutation) or by a recipe at 500.

fact is, these numbers don’t mean squat. get a warrior out there and test the dps difference ingame with proper rotations and max stacks on lupi for example and give us a percentage.
Why would they? If so, other players would complain, their plain exotic gear should be upgraded to ascended, too. And the rares should become exotic, the greens become rares…
More likely there will be entirely new weapons and armor to create with new skins.
I am against gear grind, we do not need ascended armour. It should not be added to the game.
If we are forced to have it though, I would like them to add ascended gear to dungeons. As this new gear grind is going to make Exotics worthless and they should let us get the new level of armour from dungeons. At least then it wont seem too bad as long as you do dungeons you could get some ascended gear quickly.
Also I want skins not new levels of armour about exotics. No new skins, no new armour.

Since Ascended weapons and armor are about to come in, how will weapons use agony resistance? Will 2h weapons have 2 slots for AR to match two 1h weapons? If so while you’re at it can 2h weapons finally get 2 sigil slots?
They most likely won’t, but they should. Some of these weapons cost just as much, if not more, than legendary weapons. Not being locked into one skin to have the best stats sounds like a win too me.
Please elaborate on these aforementioned better ways, otherwise you aren’t adding anything to the conversation.

What if they said “we’re opening a zone in Far Shiverpeaks with a dungeon twice as hard as Arah, complete it, get enough tickets and get these special ice skins with a small chance of animated chest armor dropping”. There you go. you introduced new challenging content without making it time gated and you give enough carrots to make people want to go for it.
Open several raids with elite skins.
It’s not hard to imagine how a game can keep hardcores playing without vertical progression.

Mirta you are simply assuming at this point….how about you wait to see. No you will assume. They have added new avenues to obtain ascended gear. Nothing says that you won’t be able to aquire ascended armor through other means than just crafting. But the QQ’rs thrive on assumptions.
I’m assuming because I was here for the previous ascended gear. I’m assuming because all of the current ascended gear has about only 2 ways of getting it and all of those ways are different. There’s still no way to get the trinkets and amulets trough fractals.
They specifically said the gear would be available in drops, and you get drops in fractals dont you? so you can keep running them. What they didnt say anywhere in the blog post, was that fractals would advance past 50, so there is no NEED for the gear anyhow. I’m just hoping fractal armor has some decent new skins for medium I’d grind for a year to get decent looking medium armor

Also correct me if I’m wrong but it sounded like the comment that all ascended gear would be account bound that if you craft it you won’t be able to sell it, and if you get a drop you won’t be able to sell it, so if you’re not a crafter you have to rely entirely on rng to hopefully get any ascended gear with the right stats. So everyone who hates crafting is suddenly going to have to craft to get what they want, or hope they are extremely lucky.

I mean, this is Guild Wars 2. Gear in this game doesn’t have this much of an impact as in another games. You can do everything with rare items and finish just a couple of minutes slower than using full exc/asc gear. Only WvW and Fractals are going to be affected notably, but asc gear is made for fractals after all and WvW is just a casual thing(compared to sPvP that’s going to be an eSport and PvE that’s the main focus in the game).
P.S “Having ascended gear means that future updates will be balanced around that” is not a valid reason because you can do everything with green items now.

Why not have a thing you can make for your self as a craftier we can already get level 80 though crafting why not be able to gear out your self though crafting. This tier is time-constrained, so each item can only be made once per day in order to help give high-level crafters their own economy of items to build and sell that retain their value and rarity.
I would like to point out that one can’t maintain their own economy of items to build and sell if it’s soulbound.
So yes, the items will be craftable, however they will also be purchasable. I imagine that you’re panicking over soulbound because of this?
These weapons and armor will also be able to be found as rare drops from locations in the world. Ascended weapons and armor will remain account-bound like other ascended gear.
To which I would probably say only applies to the drops? or perhaps it’s only bound to the account once you actually soulbind it. Either way we don’t have enough information to verify any of this.
Quit panicking and wait for the proper information, you’re all making speculation over an article that was outlining the direction they wanted to go this year. Not providing ridiculous details about how your current gear is going to be “useless” as soon as they post a new patch.

They can’t be the same as trinkets. Ascended weapons need upgrade slots for sigils and ascended armour for runes. Otherwise both might as well just be deleted from game.

the new gear should be available for every playstyle. so if u are wvw based, make them available for badges. not ectos, ectos are very hard to obtain if u only play wvw and we dont make much gold compared to pve so for me it’s hard to get ascended gear that requires 50 ectos or more!
how about karma+badges, not laurals+ectos or badges+ectos?

They introduced “choice”, but it’s not for all items. So instead of there being 7 ways to get all items, you’re locked to 2 ways for each item. What I’m pointing out is that I want there to be more choice when it comes to this just like we have with ascended.
Think of it this way – were you happy when rings were available only trough fractals if you disliked dungeons? Would you be happy if the new armor was the same way? Can you emphasize with me for a moment now?
All that would requre a massive rework of how items work imo, hope they dont screw things up.

It already had it before ascended was introduced. levelling to 80? Yeah vertical progression. Getting exo gear? Yeah, verticle progression.
The thing is that alot of people are worried that ascended is setting a precedent for more tiers in the future and the creation of a proper gear treadmill. I also fear this. I don’t want a gear treadmill, i don’t want vertical progression i want new abilities and not increases in numerical values just to give us the facade of progession.
I spent 5 years out of the MMO genre because of things like this. This game is my last ditch attempt with mmos.
It’s been almost 1 year and nothing bad has come from it yet. Judging from their blog post, they’re confident nothing ever will. People need to doom and gloom / complain about something, just ignore them and move on.

Have you ever played any other MMO? I’m going to assume that you haven’t. In any gear based MMO, there’s a ridiculously low amount of players who have full top tier gear. This is no different. The difference between exotic and ascended gear is quite small, ascended items don’t blow exotics out of the water nor do they make exotics heavily subpar. Of course there’s going to be the 1% of players who attempt to make ascended gear a requirement in pugs, but realistically there’s still going to be tons of groups that will allow you to run with exotics, because exotic gear is still optimal.

So what I’m doing is attempting to get enough people to notice my cause, that way developers either will correct me or they will add more choice. Either way instead of risking of only having that choice we would 100% be getting a variety of choice. While we’re at it why is it not mentioned that old ascended items will become craftable? Will they even become craftable? They should become craftable, the same way that the amulet and earrings should be gotten to fractals, the same way that the whole set should be gotten with an insane amount of karma and WvW badges. For the items that we currently have the choice should be expanded and the new items should also have a wide variety of choice of how to acquire them.

Except that things like hardcore WvW guilds will come into play on Tier 1 servers making it a requirement to get this gear for their guild, making them even ruing WvW.
Funny thing is that for now Ascended items are one of the most time gated things in any game. If I went back to WoW, got into a hardcore raid guild I would have my top tier gear faster than I could get full ascended in GW2.
