The Walkers and the Whispers, ANVIL ROCK
(edited by Moderator)
Seems to be hitting email now. I think they realized the sheer number of folks raising issues and concerns over the release and are looking for insightful info on how to improve for future content releases.

Ok people we get to say what we feel now go fill it out!
Edit: Ok well after going through it, it was mostly about the one time event, and not much on the new dungeon and nothing on the new equipment. Still something to say at least, and you can put in your own answers in the “Other” sections.

Yeah, was disapointed abot no Ascended questions. But I guess the forum already have a few answers for that.
Used the Other fields to give them my two cents about ascended gear. Other than the new tier, the new patch and additional content is great!
Thanks for the link because the link in my email didn’t work. Well done ncsoft/anet.
Nope, just the one time event.

There was space to add comments. I made sure my distaste for it was put across.
Well, I filled out the survey.
This could be a chance for those looking to provide feedback regarding the One-Time Event that occurred. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t get a chance to participate in it because of work, but I’d imagine it was a blast for those that did.
I decided to give Anet some (more) minutes to give feedback about the event. Too bad the links dont work. You could start by fixing this, Anet.
Didn’t receive any email in regards to this, not surprised though since I received a halloween email after the event was over with.
I got the e-mail. Link doesnt work. Anet, start by fixing the survey link plz.

I addressed that by including them as part of the Fractals. I enjoy the individual Fractals, they’re fun puzzles to figure out. I don’t know how I’ll feel about them after having done them multiple times, but right now they’re awesome and fun. Oh and I get loot….But I don’t really have any kittens to give about loot.
The thing in this weekend patch that I enjoyed the most was that donation-vendor-thing. I LOVE having a 250 stack Basic Salvage Kit and Mithril tools and Orchilum tools. Oh and I can buy keys, sure it takes a significant amount of the tokens but that’s ok. BECAUSE I CAN BUY THE KEYS. (Also I feel that that the donation system is something that may help stabilize the economy by providing a place to dump things)
I explained I did not invite friends as the ones I had already enticed to GW2 were angry with me for leading them into the bait and switch that is the “new item progression initiative.”
Nope, just the one time event.
This. This survey is ridiculous.
Hold the phone. Did NCsoft just… care?
Well, just submitted it with my opinion as to how the fractal leveling system is severely hurting lfg. This survey does appear to be mostly related to the one time event backlash instead of the more esoteric problems with fotm.
Yeah, was disapointed abot no Ascended questions.
Same here. The survey is ridiculous. It just points that they don’t think the reaction towards new gears on the forums is of any importance. Oh well…
I’m glad that they are doing this. It’s going to give them real statistics instead of just the same thing repeating over and over again in the forums.
Now, hopefully they actually take this information into consideration!
At least we have a chance to say what we think in an official matter. Plus, this email will likely reach many people that do not ever visit the forums.

To be fair, this seems aimed at people who probably aren’t even aware of the existence of the fractals. Nothing in the game throws the existence of ascended gear and fractal levels into your face like the game did with giant crabs blowing stuff up in the main city.
I hate these types of surveys that do not give you real way to say how you feel! Loaded questions and sidestep some of the real issues.
Ya it wasnt great but I will tell ya -
they gots them feedbacks – thank goodness for other Lol.
Just thought about expanding the cash shop:
Why not put pitchforks and torches in?
Customizable signs to protest with
A megaphone to blast a message across the entire server?
(2 are already ingame)
I mean stick it to us while we stick it to them Lol just a funny quirk.
Yeah, I haven’t gotten an email. But thank you for the link! I provided my feedback.
And about the gear… I haven’t been on since the event, so I’m not really sure what that’s all about. I might ask though.
Check you spam folders.
Gmail flagged mine as spam.
Questios are terribly handled.I like that a new dungeon was adeed but i dislike that the new tier of gear was added with it.I like that there are cool one time events but i hate that some people were rewarded 200+ gold items for being there.
So how do i answer this questions…I doubt they will read whatever people wrote under other…
They might regret doing a survey. I did not post favorable feedback.
Those of you who received the survey by email. Did you spend a lot on the gem shop? Approx how much ~?
Got email, spent nothing.
You can take off your tinfoil hat. It’s a random sampling or you’ll get one eventually.
Mine was also flagged as spam by GMail. If you’re waiting on tenterhooks, check the spam folder.

Personally I provided reasonably positive feedback, I liked the event mostly. But negative feedback is good too; they ask because it shapes the events we get in future… i’m sure they’re prepared for negative stuff, and i’m sure they’ve been game designers long enough to know it comes with the territory.
Yeah don’t bother with the survey. It’s only goal is to sidestep real issues.
I did not attend the event, because I was demotivated to play the game by what I felt was a change in direction for the design of the game. There were other games available that I played that I felt more motivated to play. I would not recommend more one time events if it leaves this hollow shell world content. I would much rather have a world boss chain event. The world content was so hollow that I could not find out why we were at the island fighting crab monsters. Apparently the entire explanation was within the one time event.
Used the link, thx.
I wish the survey was a little… bigger.
I actually love surveys, I answer those surveys when people call you at home all the time. And I really wanted to give my opinion in a bit more… detail.
I really love how this game is going, and though they are having issues with some things, it’s clear that they are trying. I really love the idea of big one time events like this, especially if it’s going to be monthly. I see a lot of negativity on the forum, and I really hope they don’t take it to heart.
Some people complain because they want to try to trick the company into giving them more, even though they are enjoying themselves. I wish we could filter those people out. Since this survey will hit a huge number of players, hopefully it will do just that.
I hope NCSoft is looking at this. Maybe they can tighten the screws loose at Arenanet.
Yes, they might also be the demons inciting for a direction change in the game, but tbh I think Arenanet just gave up on been innovative.
they shouldn’t need real statistics to know the event weekend was a massive failure on many, many levels.
That being said it should open their eyes up to focus on the real problems with this game instead of just pushing junk out there, all the junk does is cause people to leave and hate on the game more – and the hate is fully warranted over this past weekend from the start to finish, from every little sub quest to the final battle. Every single thing was broken at some point.
The dungeon is the ONLY good thing to come out of it and that has a SERIOUS amount of work still needed to fix all those bugs in there.
Really instead of someone reading the first 100 survey’s they should just tell them to go fix something broken and get back to patching the issues of the game – oh and give us back the patch notes. Players want to know when things are fixed it looks good when you tell us that.
I was generally positive on the event and very positive about the dungeon (which I find extremely fun). But I did note that technical issues marred the event experience for me.
I’m just hoping that ANet learns from this event. The fact that they are asking for feedback via survey seems to suggest two things to me:
1) They’ve seen the forum outrage by a select few players, and thus….
2) ….they want to see if there’s any truth to all the forum people constantly claiming that “the vast majority of people hated this release”.
I suspect they’ll find that it was, as always, just a very vocal minority. That doesn’t mean their concerns aren’t valid, mind….I think there are some serious issues to address in this release for future content updates….but it might mean that those unhappy may not be nearly as numerous as they like to pretend they are.

By a select few players……… I hope that was a joke right?
I smell a merge coming along any time now.

Nope. Not at all.
Unless you intend to argue that the forums in any way constitute a majority of the playerbase, or directly indicate the opinions of the majority of a playerbase’s opinion. Neither is usually the case.
Rage at me all you like, but I stick to my stance. I would be rather surprised if the survey results indicated to them that any significant majority of players (i.e. 60% or higher) truly thought that the entire patch was awful.
Even I have plenty of complaints about this patch, but I’m not even for one second going to pretend like I didn’t have a hell of a lot of fun this weekend.
He has a point though.
I play with 6 friends IRL.
None of them even know these forums exist.
The majority of the players who are enjoying the game, are likely busy doing that. It’s possible they (like my friends) don’t know the forums exist. Why sit here for hours at a time arguing on the forums about how much you don’t like a game, when you could be playing it?
On the other hand, players who don’t like something will go out of their way to find somewhere to talk about that.
So it’s probably safe to guess that at least 75% of the people who talk on the forums, came here specifically because they had a problem. Whether it’s a legitimate problem, like a bug or lag issues, or a simple dislike of the game, they are still coming with a negative approach.
A random survey will give them a more “balanced” look at what the players think.
I should add, that I do thank everyone who comes on here to post bugs, glitches, problems, etc. I know some of you are doing it to help, and we all appreciate it.
I’m not raging at you at all. However there is a massive amount of threads and replies on issues from day 1.
Not one single event or sub quest is or was not broken at some point during this weekend.
There is not much people are going to say good about the event. Since that is what they are asking about. They are not asking about if you like the bugged out dungeon or not.
The event itself was completely and totally bad. So the countless replies and threads in regards to this even on the community here does mean and say a lot when you can hardly find anything positive about the actual event.
People who also complain about the problems are people who WANT the game to be good and want the game to succeed in a big way. I wouldn’t be here saying the issues of that event if I didn’t play the game or didnt care about it surviving. The problem is the people who do NOT speak up about what they do or do not like that has issues and instead just logoff and MMO’s die MMO after MMO.

It is entirely in keeping with my experience of Lost Shores that the link in my email didn’t work as intended. Anet has really gone the extra yard to ensure consistency in event quality from start to finish. :-)

I think there is a misunderstanding here. Many people agree there are bugs but feel that saying things like “completely and totally bad” don’t help prevent the MMO from dying (and in fact may contribute to the death). We should state the good and what prevents us from enjoying it as much as we’d like. Just saying it is horrible and the end of the world over and over won’t fix anything.
I can’t say much about the one time event:
Day 1: Bugs
Day 2: Nothing even happened…the clock struck and we all just stood there waiting.
Day 3: It was over by the time I logged on; 5 failed attempts to join full Overflows afterwards.
This event was crap.
Also that was a terrible survey and didn’t let me express my actual opinion about the event – that it was a well-conceived and artistically sound idea that would have been awesome if it worked, but that it didn’t work in any way, shape or form and was probably the least technically competent thing I’ve ever seen added to an MMO.
In short, that I want them to do this kind of thing again, but take the time to get it right, rather than not to do it at all.
I’m wary about how open the survey is. Why not have the survey pop-up in game like in the beta weekends? Also, why not have an incentive for taking the survey? After doing it, you get a free something (keys, gems, special items.)
Here’s what I posted (“Other” only):
“Rate”— 1) Dislike VERY MUCH Ascended items being superior over Exotics. This is not Guild Wars 2, this is Gear Treadmill Wars. 2) Fractal Level creates gap between new players and experienced, breaking community. The dungeon itself is well done, but the new items and the level split are dealbreakers. Why not just have 1 item infuse each run at levels over 5 (so it takes 12+ levels to “max out” Agony Resist)? 3. Why not sell minis and special skins (NOT LEGENDARY) directly in the Gem Store? I would gladly pay $20-$40 per month for new minis, special skins, and other goodies. I will not spend one cent on any chest roulettes.
“Dislike”— Ascended items BREAK Guild Wars philosophy of max static gear/level. I will not run Fractals to get “better gear” than what I already have, for no good reason. In addition, lag during the event, disconnects whenever more than ~30 actors are onscreen (happens in WvW too), and conflicting events (Reinforcements PLUS Defend the Camp means LOTS MORE OPPONENTS) made it not fun. To say nothing of those who were disconnected and did not receive the reward. Lastly, paying money for a CHANCE of a mini or skin, instead of just offering the minis and skins for sale directly, is dishonest, hurts collectors, and feels nearly criminal compared to Guild Wars 1 costumes.
“Like”— Stepping Stone jumping puzzle is PERFECT. PLEASE focus more on exploration and “doing what we [the players] want” (achievements and WvW, for starters) and LESS on gear grinds, gear treadmills, and gated content.
“Why didn’t you invite?”— I would have gladly invited as many friends and family as I could to play a casual MMO that they could play at their leisure. I did not and will not invite anyone, and will actively DISCOURAGE people from playing this game, if it turns into yet another gear treadmill grind. People should be able to play the entire game once they hit max level and gear, and not have to worry about taking breaks and then catching up. Guild Wars 1 did this perfectly. What happened?
I liked the survey (and many parts of the event – I understand it’s their first big content release and a lot of things were being tested, some worked well, some didn’t, all things can be improved). It asked some important questions and focused on a big issue for the last two events – one time exclusive stuff, so I’m glad ArenaNet is looking into this. I don’t understand why we haven’t received a survey about ascended gear – I’m guessing it’s because they don’t care what we think, they are going to do it anyway.
All in all I was able to respond to many issues in a format I know they can and will use and I was satsified with the coverage of the survey. I’m glad ArenaNet is trying to learn from this event and hopefully will use this information to improve content patches in the future. This event had a lot of potential and I can really see that coming out stronger in the future.
If you answer the survey “no, I didn’t take part in the event” they give you a space to write in why. If you say that you didn’t invite anyone to come play the event, it gives you another space to write in why. I used this feedback for to let ANET know my feelings about how they betrayed us with Ascended gear.
I suggest everyone do the same.
