No offence but they don’t. The SOTG INCREDIBLE disappointed me. The two Anet interviewed guys where WAY TO often WAY to clueless. If they even REMOTELY played the profession in their free time at least 50-100 hours each, they would’t not have made such epic mistakes in the video. Such plain wrong decisions. That show their ignorance to the real problems.
The confusion nerf PROOFS they don’t have a clue. They haven’t played wvw enough. End of the story. And decent player knows that almost any build used by a smart players outmaches confusion at any time. If they cant realize that then i’m very disappointed.
The best worker at Anet is by FAR, by very very very FAR Robert Houda. Massive congratz to that guy for caring for gw2 so much. If I had anything to say, i fire almost every gw2 worker, or let them change their style to Houda’s, and make Robert boss of Anet in the process. If he had anything to say over class balancing, this game would SKY-ROCKET.

You’re applying kindergarten mathematics to an advanced physics equation. Balancing eight unique classes isn’t a matter of putting higher numbers on things that people don’t use enough and lowering numbers on things that people use too much. Nor is it a matter of ‘time’, the average pro-baseball player couldn’t run a professional league if his life depended on it, even though he undoubtedly has more play time than any person who is qualified to run a league. Time and exposure do not equate to knowledge.

I was addressing the second point. Your argument is that because it’s been divided in to a certain portion, and is being divided again, it’s useless, ignoring any situation in which it may be applied; how the class that is applying it may do so or what affect it may have that is unique to the class. Not to mention the changes to the classes around the mesmer. That’s basic math, ie kindergarten, it’s not taking in to account enough variables to properly assess effectiveness.
Boons have been affected this patch, several classes have had condition removals nerfed, stats will undoubtedly be nudged here and there. And those are just the few things we know, there are undoubtedly more that we can’t account for.

okay, divide condition damage by half – your hits of dungeon bosses are now 20K max. All power build though would get 30K on average. Please tell me the usefulness of confusion as a mesmer in PVE?
In PvP your confusion will hit for 10K max. Compare that to 100 blades that if lands will kill you outright. Pleaser tell me why go confusion build instead of straight power?
And this is damage that takes minutes to fully set up.
People that were complaining complained about confusion and not mesmers. So why punish one class instead of all capable of puling off massive damage with confusion?

Confusion doesn’t require a stationary opponent without any dodges, evasion, or a ranged weapon. And only one other condition in the game punishes you for fighting back, and it’s also being nerfed.
You are, as I said, oversimplifying things, to an astounding level in fact.
If X does not equal Y, then anything applied to X and Y equally will yield different results for each. Or in laymen’s terms, you are comparing apples and oranges.

You call this calm? I see a bunch of overreacting by some people that is playing a much different game than everyone else has been playing. Now they are going to have to learn to play like the rest of us and stop relying on over powered builds and abilities to win. They haven’t even seen all of the changes yet and probably even more changes will be coming after this.

I was one of the first people to play that build, I was going full confusion mesmer in PvP back when everyone thought mesmer was one of the worst classes in the game. And I was destroying with it, and I didn’t find it difficult at all. And then I deleted that mesmer after a few months and haven’t taken one in to PvP since, because I’m not enough of a jerk to use builds specifically made to remove all counterplay opportunity from my opponent. For this same reason, I’ve never used a bunker build on my Ele. I play builds that allow other people to have fun, rather than only thinking of myself, maybe you should try it sometime.

I have, gave it up after that, didn’t even see that make much of a difference. And looking back I guess it was more than a month and a half :P
This build is not good for the game, it’s overpowered to an extent, but more importantly it discourages people from playing by giving no opportunity for counterplay. Counterplay should give you offensive and defensive choices depending on what your opponent does, then if you select the right counterplay, you’ve put your opponent on the defensive and he has to counterplay your strategy. Mesmers never allows for this, and confusion is a large part of that. Your choice is always between several things that still provide more of an advantage to your opponent than to yourself. You can never put a mesmer on the defensive.
Now I agree, better things can be down with confusion, possibly an overhaul. And that there are more problematic things in the mesmer profession than confusion. But this is a step in the right direction, if it doesn’t work, then more extreme changes are a possibility; but it’s not a good idea to take great leaps before seeing if a few small steps will get you there.

Confusion doesn’t require a stationary opponent without any dodges, evasion, or a ranged weapon. And only one other condition in the game punishes you for fighting back, and it’s also being nerfed.

If X does not equal Y, then anything applied to X and Y equally will yield different results for each. Or in laymen’s terms, you are comparing apples and oranges.
Talk about oranges and apples all you want but go play a mesmer and tell me how many stacks of confusion can you properly even set up with all your hard work. There’s no other way to show that mesmers are a very hard class to play.
I was one of the first people to play that build, I was going full confusion mesmer in PvP back when everyone thought mesmer was one of the worst classes. And I was destroying with it, rarely even came close to losing a match. And then I deleted that mesmer after a month and a half and haven’t taken one in to PvP since, because I’m not enough of a jerk to use builds specifically made to remove all counterplay opportunity from my opponent. For the same reason, I’ve never done a bunker build on my Ele. I play builds that allow other people to have fun, maybe you should try it sometime.

This build is not good for the game, it’s overpowered to an extent, but more importantly it discourages people from playing by giving no opportunity for counterplay. Counterplay should give you offensive and defensive choices depending on what your opponent does, then if you select the right counterplay, you’ve put your opponent on the defensive and he has to counterplay your strategy. Mesmers never allows for this, and confusion is a large part of that. Your choice is always between several things that still provide more of an advantage to your opponent than to yourself. You can never put a mesmer on the defensive.
Now I agree, better things can be down with confusion, possibly an overhaul. And that there are more problematic things in the mesmer profession than confusion. But this is a step in the right direction, if it doesn’t work, then more extreme changes are a possibility; but this has to be tried and tested first.
I’m sorry if you die to confusion you should feel bad. It was by no means OP. Mesmers will be shelved for the most part, glamour Mesmer was fun to play, I will just go back to Shatter/Phant hybrid and have a little less fun with it, but meh. Now Mesmer is down to one fun build instead of 2. I forsee shatter Mesmer will be nerfed in the next patch most likely, because people will think that they should not have to dodge 3 shatters on a GC Mesmer and that will down near anybody in one shot. There is obviously no way to counter that.

Mostly what I’ve noticed is when I log onto the forums, there are far fewer new posts than before. I’m not trying to point to any one reason, I’m just saying that the activity in general seems to have quieted down. Could be a few of the inflammatory trolls left, could be fewer people interested in GW2, could be the change in seasons (MMOs are chronically less populated in spring/summer). Probably it’s all of this, and some things I didn’t mention.
I know which category I, personally, fall into, though.
Then you don’t count profession forums for sure, because the Profession forums, the sPVP Forums and the WvW Forums have more posts now than they ever had in the last months.

You need to not make assumptions when jumping in to the middle of a conversation, as I stated that I had experience playing a mesmer, not playing against one. And if you are unable to accomplish anything with a confusion build, you are lacking, not the build.

Is why I just update and play. If I actually find something bad, I report it. I don’t post it on the forums for debate and some BS pat on the back. Just want the broke things to get fixed. I really….seriously don’t see that with most here.

Until I hear it from a direct and reliable source I never hold my breath on speculation and rumors. I advise everyone else to do the same to avoid pointless arguments, artificial stock inflation, etc.
I also have to add that reading about updates and actually playing them is a usually a completely different experience. What looks great on paper could be turn out poorly and vise versa.

Yes, but not always. I’ve heard the craziest rumors in-game and I have no idea where they got their info.
I don’t really care about GW2 anymore, by now everbody should have noticed that they’re really lazy when it comes to fixes, always going the primrose path for little to no effort instead of doing things properly. Didn’t login for a while now, and after what I heard about the upcoming patch, I probably won’t return.
First sensible post in this thread. Seems to be very few people who understand the problems and aren’t sitting around in a fog of “everything’s okay, keep dreaming, you’re doing fine now, nothing is wrong with the world, those problems you face really aren’t there” I keep seeing from people like the OP.
Amazes me that people can miss entirely the point of all of the threads documenting the problems with the testing the balance and the lack of promised content throughout the history of this product and the ignored solutions presented by those of us who have a clear memory of mmo development history and the issues of these types of games that were solved with simple yet effective solutions that seem to be ignored simply because many of them were provided by the elephant in the room.
I think the infighting has died down because the number of people on the forums has died down.
No, I don’t have access to any metrics on this, it’s just a guess. But it’s a good guess, because these forums are much, much quieter than they used to be.

I’m talking about every month the same thing for the last three, maybe four months. End of the month, everything everyone hated about the patch was argued to death and then we start speculating about the next patch.
I haven’t particularly seen the number of posts…or posters fall off.

Forums are pretty quiet.
I miss names like critickitten and others who left the game (and the forums) during the last couple of months. I won’t be posting much either as I’ve been busy at work and playing other games lately. But I’ll keep an eye out… maybe things change, maybe not. Had high hopes for this game, followed it religiously but things turned weird around November. Oh well. Looks like they are trying, at least…

Just some random thoughts on things I’d like to see less and more of ;-)

As for the storm…yeah. this patch wasn’t that bad. Some whinging about the RTL nerf (which was probably needed) and some whinging about the confusion nerf (which was probably needed in PvP). No real whinging about the ranger pet buff. A couple of complaints.
But I’m thinking that those who don’t like the game leaving the game isn’t a bad thing. Because there are still people that like the game and play it. The think is if you make the game more like those leaving want it, will those playing like it better?
Perhaps not.
Like I said, time will tell. And it needs time to evolve… sure.
If it appeals to a wider variety of player types in future – great. No subs, so anyone can come back and check it out again from time to time. I know I will.

So many games are based on that model, that I have dozens of games to choose from that are all essentially the same.
Finally an MMO comes out that I actually like, and people want to change it. I don’t mean bug fixes, or balancing. I mean adding raids or duels. Stuff like that. Changes the whole thought process of the game.
Years before Guild Wars 2 came out, my oldest son and I had a long talk. I told him everything I felt that was wrong with the MMO genre. He didn’t understand at all. He thought I was nuts. He was a WoW raider.
A year or so later the MMO Manifesto came out. And yes, there are a couple of remarks in there that were unclear, and there was the “everything you love about Guild Wars 1 line” which is clearly impossible, but in the end, what they were saying is what I was saying in that conversation. It was like Anet had bugged my house. I still can’t believe the vision they had.
And on most of what they said, without the limits of existing technology, I feel they’ve delivered. So yeah, I’m not so quick to want this game to change to be “more popular”.

I think some trolls are on vacation, but that’s about it. Or maybe people are busy getting riled up about the Elder Scrolls MMO because it’s the next Magic Bullet that will utterly destroy WoW when it is released as the most flawless and popular MMO ever.
Actually some people are playing Neverwinter Nights. My son tried it today. He was pretty meh about it. He said it was a complete betrayal of the franchise (which he likes). He said it’s pretty much Neverwinter WoW.

Maybe they will change it, maybe they won’t. The thing is, they kind of already made that decision when they brought in vertical progression… but I don’t want to argue about that here. It’s been discussed to death. So lets leave it at that, shall we?
I think they will do whatever they feel is right for the financial success of the game. And that is perfectly fine because they are in the business to make money after all. So, while their stats are positive you probably have nothing to worry about and the game will probably stay the way you seem to want it to stay.

Just to Nitpick, it’s Neverwinter, not Neverwinter Nights. NN was the single player game and made by a completely different company that doesn’t really exist any more.
I played the Neverwinter beta a bit and was not impressed. It’s more like the D&D games for Xbox than a successor to NN. I threw them $60 for the bonus loot package and got early access over the weekend but I still can’t motivate myself to actually log in and play.
