The Guild Issue
How would more complex guilds get people to respond to you in guild chat or help you find people you like? And what exactly is a more complex guild?
ANet may give it to you.
Those sound like issues with the guilds you’ve joined, rather than the mechanics of guilds in GW2.
What would help is if GW2 provided tools for guilds to recruit or members to search for guilds. At the moment, unless you read the ‘right’ post on reddit|forums|world-specific-website or unless you’re in the right map and the right time, you have no way to connect to new guilds.
LF-Guild/Recruitment tools won’t, of course, guarantee that people will find a good fit; they would increase the chances.

THIS
some way for people to find a guild/for people to advertise their guild [other than spamming map chat lmao…] would be really great.
Well, I was thinking of implying a better guild system, by making then more relevant, maybe adding guild structure, such as divisions. Each division would have its own job and specialization. Eg: stealth, front line, etc. I believe guilds are an opportunity for communities to expand, instead of just sitting there.

I completely agree.

That would be putting the cart before the horse.
More likely than not it would just be a waste a resources because it would be created and nobody would use it because there is nothing in the game that would benefit from that structure.
Well, hopefully, the rest of the ‘State of the Game’ you are so pleased with makes up for the short-comings you find with Guilds.
Good luck.
Agreed that a guild-searching tool would be a fantastic addition. The activity of members sounds more to me like an issue with the guilds you’re joining, but I think that could be heavily remedied by the addition of a searchable database.
It would be easy to specify what your guild does in an accessible place, in addition you could talk about whether or not being active in guild chat is encouraged, etc. (Some guilds who don’t talk much might be better for shy people, or those without a lot of time to commit.)
Guild messages have been improved but I would like to see more features added to it to make it easier to broadcast events and such. Maybe a “guild schedule” tab could be added?
As for the guild missions, I agree that they’re very simple, but I like the system and think that Anet should continue to pursue creating more diversity within it.

I love the state of the game….a lot. Guilds is a side issue….well guilds in general have always been a side issue in this game….LOOL get it? huh huh?!

You’re awesome! yea my thoughts exactly.
Involving the whole guild is indeed a difficult thing to do. As time passes, the members who once join that activities will stop turning up. A good example is guild missions though there still some that come but is just a handful.
There isn’t really a lot of guild scale activities you can do, no, there is actually a lot but many of those activities can be done with pugs as well and thus it become limited. For world boss like triple trouble, you need massive numbers, so that is out. For WvW, you will need to be on the same server and some people just dislike doing WvW (/shrugs), so WvW is complicated. Raid? Is just for 10-men and it is rather gear intensive. JP? You don’t do JP every week right? It gets rather old fast.
I remember I used to have temple runs every week before megaserver, at that time, there isn’t that much pugs regularly taking down temples and the scale of the events really fit a guild perfectly but meh, megaserver came.
Guild in this game is rather sad.

Guilds at this point are completely depending upon those running the guild. Fortunately my guild has a group of people running it that are always helping out and running things with people. We have three events a week, pretty much every week but we play together most days.
If the people running the show encourage engagement, people will be engaged, but it’s work and not everyone knows how to do it.
Dunno about this problem. As the leader of a WvW guild, I’ve never run into those issues that you’ve just raised.

Pretty much this. Get some dedicated people leading community events on a regular basis in the guild, it keeps people engaged and more active. Running guild-made events as well is a great way to encourage participation.
Compared with GW1, guilds just don’t seem to matter very much in GW2.
I’m sure there are some happy, thriving guilds out there but it does not feel like there is the vibrant diversity of guilds we had in GW1 and they don’t seem to have much of a role. Maybe it’s the gameplay style, maybe gaming habits have changed, maybe it’s something else. /shrug

It might be the influence, or cost, of tools such as LFG. One reason for guilds was to have a pool of people you can call upon to help you out or to do content such as dungeons or achievements. If you can get into a pug group in a few seconds with the LFG then it reduces the role of guildies getting together to do things. If people don’t need their guild they interact with it less and the guilds are less important to the game.
ANet may give it to you.

Guilds are just chat rooms, with grind for WvW win gimmicks (banners spamming).
Oh.. and pve blob spam events to kill a mob with huge pool health….

Another big mistake from Anet…

None of the things you are listing are a problem with the guild systems. They’re all issues with the guilds you have joined.
Guilds are social structures, and guild halls are long term communal goals for those social structures.
I personally don’t have any of the issues you have. People in my guild immediately log in and the first thing they do is see what other guild members are doing, who wants to do stuff together, etc. I definately do not (and wouldn’t want to) run a 250 person guild. Our membership hovers around 20-30 people, with various levels of activity. As the guy in charge I’d like it if more people were active more often, sure, but it seems like you’re joining faceless zerg guilds and expecting them to work like smaller more social guilds.
Try joining a smaller more social guild?

Plus, GW1 was all instanced so the only help you had was the help you took in with you. In open world GW2 there are usually a few random folks around the place so you don’t even need the LFG or groups for most stuff. Even in HoT where you do often need help the chat window normally does the trick.

Are you trying to make some vague reference to GvG? Otherwise I don’t see anything in GW1 that required a guild. My guild exists for the same reason in both game, as a chat channel primarily.

but a guild has to have 250+ people!
The most organized and collectively helpful guilds that I have been in over the years have been WvW guilds.
I have never joined a raid guild, or dungeon based guild because that is content that I do not like. Some of the larger guilds have done said content, but I haven’t joined a large guild since the launch of HoT. I can’t say if those guilds are as collectively focused on everyone’s success or not.
Many WvW guilds have disbanded or had become inactive with the DBL release. In some cases I don’t even see signs of previously active guilds on my server any longer. This is a bit more difficult to sort out now that the WvW merger has taken place, but I still don’t see very many familiar names and guilds that once existed.
I can see why the TS would feel that there is little to no guild support for PvE content. Apart from the regular WvW guilds, there are very few PvE based guilds that seem to do much outside of raids these days.
I wonder if an overhaul of the guild experience system would help with that. In my current guild that bar does not move very much if at all lately. If anyone else logs in, it is largely members focused on solo content or HoT farming/hunting for completion stuff. Our guild hall is at a standstill because the few of us willing to donate just can’t grind out the gold and materials at a fun pace to further the cause.
Guilds in GW2 do seem to lack in purpose unless you are focused on some specific types of group content. Especially those that can include larger numbers, but they are not always rewarding on a guild level.

No, I did not say guilds were required for GW1, just that they seemed more relevant than in GW2. I think gaming has moved on a little and also that being able to join 5 guilds has somewhat diluted the whole guild thing.

For PvE, guilds weren’t really all that important and I’m not sure why you think they were. I did all the content in GW 1 two man with my wife and heroes.
