Mike’s post implies the problem was pretty dang severe but all messages were things like “just a little bit later than usual” or implying it was always just around the corner, that’s why many players, especially EU players have a legitimate gripe here.

I`m EU player and i dont see the problem… yes patch is delayed… but what? should i cry and DEMAND like other to know where its on?… its on when its ready… I kitty hope its gonna be delayed for next week… it their stupidity and high demanding that make them like that…

Yes if you don’t get the problem with open and vague statements that’s your own issue. And don’t worry a good chunk of people would have prefered a guarnateed release next way to this here.

No, first of all the information was out there already, but anet worked in “good hope” and us without information having many people waiting for hours, and taking a day off tomorow (more like today now), while not having any idea themselves if they can even make it at all. They should have just set the release date to friday since they can be sure to release it there, and tell us so in a timely manner. The way this was handled is extremely unprofessional.

Edit: As it stands now they wanna repeat this charade tomorow as well….
Just set it to friday, or next week even.

Or people shouldn’t plan their day around a video game and play it when they have time. And if they have to make time, make it for after the content is already out, not before. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.

We were hit hard by the Seattle area storm and resulting power outage. We’ve been working to bring everything back online as quickly as possible, but after a series of setbacks, it’s become clear that it won’t be today.

Please accept our apology. We’re going to keep at it through the night and hope to be able to launch tomorrow, but obviously we can’t promise anything.

While we all want the release as soon as possible, don’t kill yourselves trying to get it out, especially if the roads are treacherous. Work hard, but work smart, and dont work through the night! Get some sleep, for God’s sake! It’s better to do it right than do it fast, and with snow in your area, driving without being asleep at the wheel is always the smart thing to do.

Unless you have cots at the office, in that case, get to it!!!

Stuff happens. I have no doubt they tried to get the patch out today, and props to them for working overtime to make sure it’s out tomorrow.

Major power outages are more than just “oh hey, the lights are out for a bit” at game studios. Servers go offline, code set to compile overnight doesn’t finish, all sorts of stuff happens. It could have been a lot worse than a patch getting pushed out a day.

I really think the patch should be delayed now until Friday, atleast the raid part. Teams actually wanted to compete for World First and booked time off work for this, and as an EU player it would have been nice to have been told this 5 hours ago, instead of our 2 groups staying awake with the “It’s soon we are working as fast as possible” and “ASAP” posts that ultimately gave nothing.

Ironically the people who are being kittens and demanding that ANet should have released a statement earlier in the day are displaying the exact behavior that pushes companies away from releasing bad news like this.

They knew it happend and hoped that they’d fix it in time. They should have told us that it went rip and that they simply can’t fix it in time and delay the release. That would have been the correct move. Simply hoping that they get something done which apparently take more than 2 days, working fulltime is simply wrong.

Oh, for Eir’s sake, people, when a server goes down hard like when the power goes out, they can easily get corrupted, then you have to rebuild it,(just think how long it takes you to set up a new home PC, and then add a few hours) then restore all the files and data back, and then have to reprogram the stuff since the last backup. I am impressed that it will may only take a day.

Disappointing news but understandable. Jormag has won this fight but we shall not let him win the war! Thank you guys for all your hard work.

I sympathize with Mike and the rest of the ArenaNet team. As a software dev I know how much pressure there is to meet a promised delivery date. It’s very hard to take an objective view, especially if there is a chance that last minute heroics will win through. Let’s face it, we’re all gamers here, including the dev team and we WANT to pull through and beat the boss.
But sometime your DP is at max, your armor is broke, you’re out of cons and you have to /resign. I’m sure today feels sucky for everyone at ArenaNet and the team but we’ll all get over it. I’m not sure what to say if you took PTO today because you just HAD to be first in the raid. That sucks too and I’m not going to say “don’t do it again”, because if you did that it’s because you REALLY, REALLY wanted to get in there because you love playing this game.

All the best to the ArenaNet team and hope tomorrow feels better than today.

Seriously, tell us upfront next time. If it’s a catastrophic thing don’t let us sit here for 7 hours waiting. Better updates would have been great. Very disappointed in your communication here, anet.

Because this generation of players is about kittening whenever something doesn’t go their way. Being yet another anonymous pseudonyme make it so easy for these people to be mean without realizing there are actual people working behind that to try and fix thing for them.
It’s truly embarassing but not surprising considering the world we live in.

I really wonder if all the people complaining are so perfect at their job (should they have one) that they think they can blame people for the kittening weather!
