The New Bass
Looks great, sounds like a low quality midi file. Worse is the total lack of Chords, WHY in the name of Ogden’s petrified britches can this thing only play one note at a time?
Are you actually familiar with how 90% of electric bass is played? Chords are not the standard way to play any type of bass line (it could be argued that base “chords” are a gimmick of sorts…more to prove you can do it or to be used in a specific solo rift).
Back on topic, the sound is disappointing (sound like an old stand up piano to me) but the fact that I can’t make horridly bad players STOP, I just turn them off in the client. Haven’t heard an in-game instrument since they put in that feature.

While it’s true the bass is a versatile instrument capable of producing a broad spectrum of tones, I suppose it might be very difficult to create something for peripheral use in an MMO that could realistically cover all the (ahem) bases — that is, without going to extreme extremes. Still, the particular tonal palette that was chosen seems an odd choice.
Anyway, here’s Tal Wilkenfeld performing with Jeff Beck. Whee.

The sound of that instrument is AN AFRONT(public insult) to bassists worldwide.

I am glad I watched the video on dulfy first lol. At least it looks neat.
I’m all about that bass….no trebble.

I requested and received my refund in less than 24 hours.
Both GM’s that I dealt with made it clear that gem store refunds are not typically done. I believe that I made my case that the sound and performance was not desirable, in the least.
I gave full props to the aesthetic design of the item (it really does look good), but that I did not purchase it for looks alone.
After they confirmed that I deleted the item from my account, I was refunded the full 800 gems.
So you MAY be able to get a refund, but 1) this is the exception not the rule 2) when doing so, make a logical argument as to why this item is not up to the standard you expected from Anet
My opinion is that they should look into a functional preview for items of this nature so customers are better informed – having to go to 3rd party sites like Dulfy or Reddit to research potential purchases is silly.
Side note – I’ve had to deal with customer support a handful of time over my 2.5+ years of playing GW2, and I have been very happy with both their professionalism and their turn-around.
Kudos to that team. I know it’s not an easy job.
They need to just put musical instruments on hold until they can get it right. The harp is the only one that’s remotely responsive, and even it is still lacking in many ways.
The bass sounds weird, but looks awesome. Perhaps it reminds me of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZJNEF6iBNE
If I hear someone playing this I might listen to it in towns.

Well that’s funny, I made my point with a support ticket for a refund and I’ve yet to get a reply. It’s been 4 days now :S
